Finding the ideal New Year’s Eve celebration takes planning ahead and determination — just like our New Year’s resolutions! I like to think about the people I want to spend NYE with and how to find the right festivities for us all. Whether it’s time with our families or rocking in the New Year with style, we have the right destinations and venues for everyone living in or visiting sunny California.

California offers a myriad of vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations. In Los Angeles, the iconic Hollywood Boulevard hosts extravagant parties and the renowned Times Square West event. San Francisco’s Embarcadero hosts a spectacular fireworks show over the Bay, while San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter transforms into a lively outdoor party. For a more serene celebration of the New Year’s Eve in California, Napa Valley’s wineries offer elegant New Year’s Eve dinners and champagne toasts amidst picturesque vineyards.

Where to Go for New Year’s in California? – Here Are Top 12 Destinations

1. Los Angeles

Santa Monica Pier

A classic LA hotspot, the Santa Monica Pier never fails to disappoint. It’s hosting a huge 30-minute light display over the Pacific Park’s Ferris wheel that culminates in a countdown for the final 60 seconds of the year. It is free to attend, although from past experience, it’s usually best to arrive early to secure parking for the day. There will be crowds, and of course, some traffic!

Downtown LA’s Grand Park

For an affordable family-friendly evening of celebration and fireworks, come to DTLA’s Grand Park. Located between the Music Center and City Hall, this iconic space will have all the offerings of a good evening, including a selection of food trucks, live music and DJ tracks, and a countdown projection over City Hall. Please note that alcohol will not be allowed or sold in the public park and $10 parking is available at the Music Center.

New Year’s Eve Party At Burton Chace Park

Another iconic place to celebrate is Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey. You can enjoy the family-friendly glow party from 7 p.m. to midnight. Stay after for the annual fireworks show along with live entertainment, food trucks, face painting, photo booths, and more.

2. San Francisco

Fireworks Over The Bay

Feel free to take your pick of countdown venues in San Francisco; the most popular being the fireworks over the Bay Bridge with upwards of 100,000 people in attendance. The best locations for viewing are the waterfronts on the eastern side, to the south of the Ferry Building or Rincon Park. Be sure to get there early to grab a good spot to sit. For those who are willing to spring for the best views, there are plenty of restaurants or bay cruises that offer a fantastic view of the fireworks.

Diplo @ Festival Pavilion

Party into the New Year on the Historic San Francisco Waterfront with a countdown performance by Diplo. With views of the fireworks display over the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz — as well as an open bar from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. — those 21 and over can dance into the night to hits by LP Giobbi and The Knocks.

3. San Diego

New Year’s Eve At LEGOLAND

Families can enjoy a fireworks display and special kids activities at LEGOLAND simply for the price of admission! LEGOLAND California Resort is hosting a family-friendly New Year’s Eve event complete with fireworks and a countdown. The park offers live music and entertainment, rides, special events, and a variety of food vendors for the whole family.

Gaslamp District

There is nowhere else to party like San Diego’s Gaslamp District. Often a favorite destination for St. Paddy’s Day, you better believe that this area will be full of people, fun, and plenty of options for ringing in the New Year. Book tickets for the various bar crawl offerings in advance to get the best deals for the New Year’s Eve.

4. Lake Tahoe

Snow Globe Music Festival

Held in South Lake Tahoe, the Snow Globe Music Festival is a famous New Year’s Eve outdoor party filled with great music, gorgeous snow-capped mountain views, and a stunning fireworks display.

Ski Resorts And Lodges

For more family-friendly festivities, I’d recommend checking out the ski resorts dotted around Lake Tahoe. My personal favorite is the Heavenly Holidays Family Festival with daily tree lightings, ice sculptures, and A Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Celebration with fireworks and live music.

Nature Time

For those who would rather reflect on the past year in peace, the many trails and scenic lookouts in and around Lake Tahoe are the perfect spots to get out in nature. Just make sure to bring a hiking buddy for the New Year’s Eve!

5. Disneyland

Inside The Park

A special treat for the whole family, the Christmas lights at Disneyland are a wonder to behold. The best places to watch the top-notch New Year’s Eve fireworks displays are in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, It’s a Small World, and the riverfront in Frontier Land.

Outside The Park

Those who choose not to spend the day in the park can still enjoy some Disney magic by celebrating at Downtown Disney. With plenty of restaurants and entertainment, there will be something for everyone to enjoy throughout the New Year’s Eve. Just make sure to bring a picnic blanket or reserve a table with a view of the fireworks!

6. Temecula Valley

New Year’s Eve Grape Drop

There’s nothing like the famous (or infamous) Temecula Grape Drop. With live music, food vendors, and kids activities, the countdown will kick off for both East Coast (9 p.m.) and West Coast (midnight) celebrations. Early birds and those with young children can celebrate at the Free Fun Zone from 6 to 10 p.m.

Old Town Front Street

One of my personal favorite spots for bar hopping, craft cocktails, and great food is Old Town Front Street. Walk along the Old West-style storefronts mixed with modern restaurants and bars and you’ll feel the spirit of Temecula. New Year’s Eve will surely have this row of bars and restaurants buzzing. It’s near the site of the Grape Drop.

7. Yosemite National Park

Lodges

Ring in the New Year in the Mountain Room at the Yosemite Valley Lodge with live music and special entertainers. In addition, there are plenty of other New Year’s Eve parties to attend in the area.

Nature

Those with pets and an affinity for nature might appreciate the expanse and quietness of Yosemite, as an escape from the constant fireworks and noise of a typical New Year’s Eve. This is a serene version of the New Year’s Eve in California for the whole family, as well.

8. Napa Valley

Napa Valley Wine Train

Countdown Napa Valley-style with the Midnight in Paris New Year’s Eve Celebration. Board the famous and historical Napa Valley Wine Train and let it take you on an adventure through wine country, complete with wine tastings, an onboard three-course gourmet meal, and a 2-hour winery party at the Grgich Hills Estate. Finally, join in on the dance party in the open-air train car and dance all the way back to the station. You’ll get to enjoy a whole day’s worth of festivities with plenty of time to find an after party — or take a nap — before the New Year’s Eve celebrations kick off.

Wineries And Resorts

Napa Valley’s top destinations are of course the wineries! Many of the wineries are offering a New Year’s Eve bash, available to members and non-members alike. Just make sure to get your admission tickets and/or table reservations ahead of time, and dress your NYE best!

I’d recommend the countdown with a balloon drop on the dance floor at The Meritage Resort and Spa. Raise a glass of bubbly and enjoy live music long into the night.

9. Sonoma Valley

Come and party like a local with a low-key set of New Year’s Eve parties at a handful of bars and wineries around the valley. Join in on the fun at venues such as The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, Murphy’s Irish Pub, or The Sonoma Speakeasy and American Music Hall, to name a few.

Songbird Parlour

For a glamorous New Year’s Eve, go no further than the Songbird Parlour. Offering craft cocktails, live entertainment and arts, a dance floor, and a DJ, this local venue is bringing the roaring ‘20s to the 21st century. Top off the night with a countdown balloon drop with champagne and caviar to really make your New Year’s sparkle and pop!

HopMonk Tavern Sonoma

For those of us who prefer celebrating New Year’s Eve with craft beers, HopMonk will be hosting free live music until midnight. Enjoy the chill ambience in their former farmhouse, originally built in 1888, and the outdoor beer garden just blocks from Sonoma’s historic downtown. Staff will be handing out glasses of craft IPA or sparkling wine to enjoy the New Year’s Eve in California.

10. SoCal Beach Bonfires & Concerts

Huntington Beach

Nothing says SoCal like beach bonfires! My favorite place to have a New Year’s Eve beach bonfire with family and friends is at Huntington State Beach. Bring a cooler with hotdogs and all the fixings for s’mores, but try to get there early to claim a fire pit, it’s first-come first-served!

Concerts And Live Music

There’s never a shortage of live music and concerts all around Southern California. Enjoy an upbeat Brazilian-Cuban-jazz concert at the Disney Concert Hall or the star-studded Countdown in San Bernardino featuring Tiësto, deadmau5, and The Chainsmokers (among many others!). From underground sets to classical concerts to all-out festivals, you can find any style of music to celebrate the New Year’s Eve in California.

11. Big Bear Lake

Nestled amid the San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear is a picturesque destination to setting to ring in the New Year in California. Known for its cozy mountain town ambiance and alpine vistas, Big Bear provides the New Year’s Eve for those seeking a more intimate celebration away from the city lights.

7. Best for Village Life – Guest House il Borgo di Sempronio

Guest House il Borgo di Sempronio

This guest house has a unique concept: the owners bought a depopulated village and turned it into a dream vacation village!

Founder Fulvio Ponzuoli was sad to see his childhood home turn into a ghost village, so he revitalized the hamlet of Semproniano by adopting the innovative albergo diffuso model, turning abandoned houses into a “scattered hotel.” This sustainable approach not only preserves the architecture of the village but also brings life back to its quiet streets and encourages guests to patronize existing businesses.

Il Borgo di Sempronio’s reception acts as a hub, with rooms and communal spaces placed in medieval structures around the village. This offers a unique opportunity to live like a local in a repopulated ghost village. You’ll have your own Cassette or little house, complete with period furnishings, fully equipped kitchens, and leafy balconies.

Il Borgo di Sempronio is easy driving distance from the Saturnia hot springs – one of Tuscany’s top sites, with its terraces of blue water and white stone – and the ski slopes of Monte Amiata.

Best Tuscany Hotels Guide

Tuscany is a varied and diverse region that offers many different experiences, from the streets of Florence to the vineyards of Val d’Orcia and the hills of Mermerra. Choosing the perfect hotel for your stay can be overwhelming. To make sure you find the right fit, here are the five most important factors to consider.

Location and Surroundings

Tuscany is a treasure trove of culture, history, art, and natural beauty. From the undulating hills of Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to medieval villages in the green expanses of southern Tuscany, there are many great locations to choose from.

Make sure you take the time to ask yourself what you are looking for a taste of the countryside, a sip of local wines, or a trip to one of Tuscany’s world-famous cities.

Whether it’s a luxury hotel like Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, offering views of cypress trees and access to historical towns, or a secluded farm estate in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, proximity to natural beauty and cultural sites should guide your choice.

Consider hotels within walking distance or easy driving distance to Tuscany’s historic centers, vineyards for wine tastings, and olive groves for the annual harvest event, which takes place from late September to October.

Amenities and Experiences

The best hotels offer more than just a place to rest; they provide a doorway to local culture and way of life. Look for properties that provide an authentic and insider experience of Tuscany with local cuisine, artisanal decor, and wine tastings.

For a touch of luxury, consider if you want to choose a hotel with a spa or a private pool.

Last but not least, check what activities and excursions are offered at your hotel. Experiences like truffle hunting, cooking classes, and wine tastings will bring you a step closer to the nature and culture of Tuscany.

Hotels like Castello di Vicarello and Borgo Santo Pietro not only offer luxury accommodations but also invite guests to participate in olive harvests, horseback riding through the Tuscan hills, and even hot air balloon rides for a bird’s eye view of the countryside.

Culinary Offerings

Tuscany is a feast for the senses, and its hotels are no exception. Choose accommodations that celebrate Tuscany’s rich gastronomic heritage, from farm-to-table restaurants utilizing seasonal produce from their own kitchen gardens to Michelin-starred establishments like those at Castello del Nero or the main house of Rosewood hotels, which serve Tuscan classics alongside innovative dishes.

A luxury hotel that integrates local flavors, such as homemade gelato, wood-fired pizza, and wild boar specialties, will leave you with mouth-watering memories of Tuscan cuisine.

Accommodation Style

Italians are known for their sense of style, and many hotels offer unique decor, from the rustic elegance of a medieval castle with Renaissance frescoes to indulgent boutique hotel rooms decorated with contemporary art.

Luxury hotels in Tuscany, such as those within the Rosewood Hotels or the historic Castello di Casole, often feature unique design elements that reflect the region’s heritage, such as four-poster beds, terracotta floors, and expansive terraces with picturesque views of the Tuscan countryside.

Sustainability and Authenticity

Look for properties engaged in preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region, from organic vineyards and olive groves that produce their own wine and olive oil to hotels like Il Borgo di Sempronio, which has revitalized a former ghost village.

Those that offer an immersive experience, from participating in the olive harvest to enjoying the products of the surrounding land, provide guests with an authentic local experience, helping to preserve Tuscany’s culture for future generations.

When picking a hotel in Tuscany, you should consider where you want to be and what you want to be doing: location and the activities on offer are crucial factors in finding your dream accommodation! But you should also look deeper at how hotels preserve the style and the culture of this unforgettable region!

What to Look for When Choosing a Family Resorts in Aruba

From which part of the island to stay on to hidden fees — here are some things to consider to help choose Aruba’s best resort for the whole family’s preferences and interests.

Area: Palm Beach vs. Eagle Beach

Aruba has two primary resort areas: Palm Beach and Eagle Beach. On the northern coast, Palm Beach is a six-mile stretch of sand strewn with bars and restaurants. It’s considered the more bougie part of Aruba. Nearby attractions like the Bubali Bird Sanctuary, the Old Dutch Windmill, and The Butterfly Farm add cultural and natural delights.

Quieter, in comparison, Eagle Beach boasts slightly larger waves. This broad, sandy haven is not just a serene retreat; it’s also a nesting ground for sea turtles. Home to low-rise resorts and casinos, Eagle Beach offers a more laid-back atmosphere for a delightful Aruban escape. Further south of Eagle Beach is the capital of Oranjestad.

Activities and Entertainment

Since Aruba’s crystal clear Caribbean waters boast extensive underwater visibility, its a great place to go scuba diving. If interested, check with your resort’s concierge to see which company they recommend. This is also a good approach for catamaran cruises, rentals, and the like. Book activities ahead of time whenever possible. Most resorts provide beach chairs, towels, and gear for snorkeling or other water activities.

Proximity to Attractions, Dining, and Shopping

At just 21 miles long and six miles wide, Aruba is the smallest of the ABC islands, so really, any resort will be within close proximity to its attractions, dining options, and shopping. Staying in Palm Beach at a resort like the Playa Linda Beach Resort, for example, puts families in close proximity to Aruba’s Bubali Bird Sanctuary, Old Dutch Windmill, and Butterfly Farm. Shoppers can stay near Orjanstead to ogle shiny baubles at high-end jewelers and shop island-inspired souvenirs at the fun and kitschy stores.

What Is Included

“Resort” is not synonymous with “all-inclusive” in Aruba; however, family-friendly resorts on the island can feature amenities such as dedicated kids’ swimming pools, direct beach access, sea views, onsite casinos, and even a private island! Oftentimes, resorts will offer an option to upgrade for more amenities, access to private areas, and personalized services.

Resort Fees

In Aruba, resort fees are not as common as in some other destinations, but they are not unheard of. Some resorts may charge a daily resort fee, covering services like Wi-Fi, beach chairs, and other amenities.

For example, the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino imposes a Daily Service Charge. Check with the specific resort about any additional fees during the booking process. Review what is included in the resort fee and decide whether it aligns with your preferences and needs for a stress-free family vacation in Aruba.

Kids Stay Free

Typically available from July 1 to August 31, Aruba’s One Happy Family program provides complimentary lodging and free breakfast for children aged 12 and under staying with one or two adults in a room.

The Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino are participants, according to Visit Aruba, but it can’t hurt to contact the resort directly to confirm.

Kids’ Club

Some Aruba resorts offer supervised programs for children, professional daycare services, or babysitting options all year round. Many family resorts have a kids’ club to entertain little ones and give parents a break during the day.

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort, and Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort all have dedicated kids’ clubs. Confirm with the resort that the kids’ club will be open during the dates of your stay.

Kitchen Facilities

Having access to a full kitchen or a kitchenette is practically essential when traveling with small children. Some examples of family resorts with in-room kitchens or kitchenettes include La Cabana Resort, Caribbean at Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort, Playa Linda Beach Resort, Marriott’s Aruba Surf Club, and Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort.

We’re big fans of all of these family resorts in Aruba, but La Cabana Resort, an upscale casino resort with an inviting family atmosphere, is our top pick. Its unbeatable Eagle Beach location, easy beach access, diverse dining options, and opportunities for family fun make it a wonderful haven for your family’s beach vacation.

We hope our guide to the best family resorts in Aruba helps you choose the idyllic island setting for your tropical escape!

7 Best Places To Find a Beautiful Texas Tulip Farm

Note: The Travel Awaits team regularly updates content to provide the latest, and most accurate information to our readers. The updated content in this article may not reflect the views or opinions of the original author.

Tulips, oh, how I love thee. It’s amazing how something so simple can brighten someone’s day. Millions love these beautiful cup-style flowers and to take home an elegant bouquet of tulips. Over 100 types of tulips grow in Texas, where tulip season generally lasts from late February to early April.

Have you ever tried to grow tulips? It’s hard work. I tried one year — went all out and bought a bulb planting tool for that perfect hole in the ground, one after the other. After planting, my back hurt so bad that I promised myself I’d never plant tulips again. From now on, I tip-toe through the tulips at Texas-Tulips!

Tulips symbolize love for some, and for others, they are just pretty to look at, but whatever the reason, these spring bloomers are remarkably colorful and cheerful. Let’s dig in (pun intended) on where to see gorgeous tulips in Texas.

The best Texas tulip season typically occurs from late February to early April, when the weather transitions from winter to spring. During this time, the temperatures are mild, and the tulips are in full bloom, carpeting fields with a riot of colors. It’s a perfect time for nature lovers, and amateur as well as professional photographers to witness this stunning display of Texas tulips.

7 Best Places To Find a Beautiful Texas Tulip Farm

1. Texas-Tulips

Pilot Point

This well-known pick-your-own tulip field in North Texas is a short drive north of Dallas and about an hour’s drive straight south of the Texas-Oklahoma border. It’s where many of us flock to get those Instagram-worthy photos. Texas-Tulips is a 6-acre tulip farm in Pilot Point and the first-ever Texas tulips field in the Lone Star State. Row after row of various tulips in every color is there for picking. Of course, it all depends on Mother Nature when the farm opens for tulip picking, but it’s usually open around mid to late February and stays open for about five to six weeks. Bring the kids for ice cream and sit at one of the picnic tables to enjoy.

Admission is $5 per person. Tulips are $2.50 each. professional photographers will pay $25 for a day pass. No charge for parking.

If I can give one tip, wear shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty (and please, no high heels), especially after a downpour as it gets quite muddy out there. Also, leave the bulbs in the ground. I wasn’t aware of this my first time out there, but the bulbs stay as it produces more Texas tulips the next year.

Make a complete day in Pilot Point by strolling the antique shops and cafés and seeing the sites of old buildings on the historic town square. If there’s time in the day, drive to the next town, Sanger, North Texas, where there are more boutiques and two popular restaurants — Babe’s Chicken, which serves family-style, and Miguelitos, which serves Tex-Mex food and outstanding margaritas. You can also drive to see the beautiful spring wildflower in Texas.

Pro Tip: No pets are allowed in the field or the parking lot.

2. US-287 Business

Decatur

Snuck in between the Whistle Stop Café and the historical petrified gas station on US- 287 Business in Decatur (both are amazing icons to visit in Decatur) is this beautiful collection of red tulips growing on the edges of old petrified buildings. It’s quite the show-stopper. Decatur, Texas, is located 30 miles west of Denton, 40 miles north of Fort Worth, and 66 miles northwest of Dallas. To get the exact location of these beauties, look up the directions of the Whistle Stop Café. The best time to see the Texas tulips is in April. This field greatly reminds me of tulip fields in Ottawa.

We were there during the tulip season last year (in early April) to have lunch at the restaurant and to see the old historical gas station. To our amazement, there were these beautiful patches of red tulips growing in the flower bed between the two. We were also surprised to see a few red poppies scattered throughout. You just don’t see tulips and poppies growing often in Texas. I could have skipped lunch altogether to stare at these flowers.

Speaking of the café, Whistle Stop Café serves large portions of down-home country meals for breakfast and lunch. It’s the only place I know of in North Texas where you can get a full meal for under ten bucks. The café is open Monday through Friday and closed on weekends. You could make a full day by having lunch, seeing the flowers, visiting the petrified wood gas station, and strolling the beautiful town square with lots of shops and an amazing courthouse.

Pro Tip: If going to the café for lunch, go early or late as it gets busy from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

3. Dallas Arboretum And Botanical Garden

East Dallas

Each year, from the end of February through mid-April, Dallas Blooms, the long-running annual tulip festival at the Dallas Arboretum, showcases beautiful Texas tulips blooms where thousands of guests marvel over the outdoor floral landscape in just about every color imaginable. Tulips aren’t the only flower growing at the arboretum during spring. Thousands of other spring-blooming annuals and perennials, such as daffodils, azaleas, pansies, violas, Japanese cherry trees, poppies, and more, are also growing. You’ll for sure want to bring your camera along for family photos. If you love azaleas, there are great Azalea trails in East Texas to see.

The Dallas Arboretum was named one of “The Best Places to See Stunning Spring Blooms Across the South” by Southern Living.

4. Poston Gardens

Waxahachie

Just a short drive south of downtown Dallas, Poston Gardens is a 2-acre field of over one million blooming Texas tulips that sprouts red, all shades of pink, and the most beautiful variegated colors. This seasonal destination celebrates spring, beautiful blooms, and a chance to give to charity with its annual festival. Tulipalooza is a festival in March that lasts for two full weeks, starting the third weekend of the month. Waxahachie is a charming town with boutique shopping and eating on every corner of the downtown square. If you want to venture around town, you will find plenty to do, especially if you love Victorian-style homes — that’s what makes this charming town so sweet. Plan for an all-day visit.

Admission: $15 per adult ($20 on weekends); $5 per child under 5. Half of your ticket price will be donated to the organization of your choice when you purchase in advance.

Sweet Berry Farms

5. Sweet Berry Farms

Marble Falls

Sweet Berry Farms is a lovely farm in Marble Falls in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. I can attest to it because I’ve been there twice during the fall for zinnias and pumpkins. The farm depends on the weather when it opens to the public, so check their website. However, expect it to be the end of February or the first of March. Always check their website for opening days. I love visiting their website because they frequently give updates to let visitors know what’s going on at the farm, what they are planting, and how it’s all going according to the weather.

Their biggest tulip season on the farm is fall when I would say to plan an all-day excursion as there are so many activities for the whole family — including the largest pumpkin patch you will ever see. But during tulip season, there are a few family activities, but no food is offered. Plan for at least a couple of hours out there. Kids love it out there any time of year. It’s free to park and enter the farm. Tulip field entry is $5, and each tulip picked is $2. Each activity charges a fee, but you can pet the animals for free.

Also, I’m not sure if the Texas tulips and activities are on both sides of the road like it is in the fall, but if so, you could be walking around the farm quite a bit, so be sure to wear a good pair of walking shoes. The good part is that the terrain is dirt and has no hills. Strawberry picking season is after tulip season. To get the most from your trip, check out this article.

Pro Tip: Credit cards and cash are accepted. No pets allowed.

6. Texas Tulip Fest at Robinson Family Farm

Temple

The first Texas Tulip Fest has not been without challenges, mostly because the Texas tulips bloomed sooner than expected. However, the Robinson family took to Facebook to ask visitors for patience during this inaugural event and it paid off. Visitors were eventually rewarded by enjoying the myriad of colors sooner.

Starting on March 9, and only on Saturdays and Sundays, the public can access the farm’s tulip fields where over 100,000 tulips were planted. Located roughly a two-hour drive south of Dallas, guests have access to Netherlands-inspired photo ops, a wine & beer garden, food trucks, and over 20 attractions, like axe throwing, corn cannons, and a barrel train.

7. Fort Worth Botanic Gardens

Fort Worth

Every year,  the team at Fort Worth Botanic Gardens in North Texas plants over 150,000 bulbs to welcome spring to Fort Worth. Among these bulbs are tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths, meaning there is a nice variety of textures and colors when you visit.

Tulip season is almost coming to an end, but because the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens offers so many other attractions, you can still come to enjoy the beautiful start of Spring.

My 9 Favorite Clearwater Beach Restaurants | Florida’s Culinary Scene at Its Best

Note: The Travel Awaits team regularly updates content to provide the latest, and most accurate information to our readers. The updated content in this article may not reflect the views or opinions of the original author.

Clearwater, Florida, has much to offer visitors. The gulf waters influence the dining scene in popular Clearwater Beach restaurants that set the tone for an incredible vacation. This year, Clearwater Beach was named the “Number One Beach in the South” by USA Today for its 35 miles of silky soft sugar sand and azure water found in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s an oceanfront playground where water sports reign supreme while dolphin-spotting tours and fishing charters dot the marina.

Commercial boats bring in the freshest seafood, making this city a fresh seafood lover’s paradise. You can enjoy fresh Gulf shrimp, succulent stone crab claws, tender grouper, flavorful mahi-mahi, and sweet Florida spiny lobster. These delectable dishes capture the essence of the beach lifestyle, creating a memorable culinary experience for seafood enthusiasts.

But there are also plenty of options for world cuisine here. When you visit, book a table by the Gulf of Mexico to sample this area’s bounty and witness the gorgeous sun setting on the water. The following are seven suggestions on and off the water for delicious dining options found in this stunning destination.

9 Best Clearwater Beach Restaurants

1. Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill

Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill is a casual “toes in the sand” restaurant in Clearwater Beach. It’s one of six “Frenchy’s” around Clearwater. Each restaurant serves fresh-from-the-gulf seafood caught by Frenchy’s own fishing fleet. Owner Michael Preston wanted a laid-back place to sip a cold drink and dine on reasonably priced seafood, and that resonates here. His first humble spot opened in 1981, and today, his multi-restaurant and seafood company assures you’ll dine on fresh, local fresh fish.

They are known for their “World Famous Grouper Sandwich” which you can order in a 4-, 6-, or 8-ounce portion and have it prepared blackened, grilled, or fried. Pair this with the garlic crab fries in a half or full-sized order. The beer-battered fries are tossed in garlic butter and topped with garlic aioli, bay seasoning, and snow crab. I ordered the half-portion and it was packed with delicate crab.

2. Palm Pavilion

The Palm Pavilion is another Clearwater Beach must-visit spot, especially for sunset views. Owned and operated by the Hamilton family, they’ve kept that original charm and hospitality, serving customers since 1926. This family-friendly restaurant caters to every family member and their slogan is “a free sunset with every meal.”

There are no reservations, but the local craft beers and live music will keep you entertained while you wait. You can choose fresh seafood selections when you order, but the burgers here are touted as “the best burger on the beach,” — a half-pound blend of Angus beef, sirloin, and brisket on a toasted brioche bun. If you still have room for dessert, order the “Almost Famous” Key lime pie with whipped cream and raspberry sauce, a local favorite.

3. Caretta On The Gulf

Caretta On The Gulf is one of “Clearwater’s Best Dining Experiences” and its only AAA-Four Diamond Restaurant. Located inside the Sandpearl Resort, dinner jackets aren’t required, but this upscale spot oozes elegance. The views of the gulf are breathtaking indoors or out, and the extensive wine menu pairs beautifully with the fresh, seasonally inspired American dishes.

Caretta is known for its inventive sushi menu. Fresh lobster and beef tenderloin rolled together makes their surf and turf roll sublime. Or savor the sashimi sampler with tuna, king salmon, yellowtail, ika sansai (squid), and wakame (seaweed salad). The steaks and chops are delicious and accompanied by organic vegetables, Havarti potato soufflé, or fingerling potatoes. Pair any one of the steaks with an 8-ounce lobster tail and you have an indulgent meal with the perfect romantic ambiance for a coastal dinner.

4. Badfins Food + Brew

Badfins Food + Brew was voted the “Best Mexican Seafood Restaurant in Clearwater Beach.” It sits across the street from the water but still offers beautiful views of that snowy sand. The food is delicious and it has a low-key family-friendly vibe. There are 34 craft beers on tap and many are local, but the stars here are the tacos.

Badfins has burgers and other handhelds like a grouper or chicken sandwich, but the taco selection is inventive. They have favorites like “El Pastor” — pork with pineapple — and freshest seafood varieties that should not be missed. The sweet tuna tacos were my pick and were fresh and flavorful. The poke-style ahi tuna is tossed in sweet soy and topped with slaw, pineapple pico, and guacamole with tomatillo salsa verde. These tacos were fresh and the beer menu offers great brews for pairing.

5. Salt Cracker Fish Camp

Salt Cracker Fish Camp is a dockside restaurant where you can watch boats sail in and out of the marina, or charter their boat and they’ll cook your catch. The all-day happy hour where two cocktails cost $10, a raw bar, and fresh fish caught by the “Salt Cracker Charter Boys” make this a popular perch in Clearwater Beach.

This dockside restaurant is casual and fun. I had to try the grouper sandwich here because the charter boat docked beside my table influenced my choice. It’s good, it’s fresh, and if you have it blackened, it’s got the right amount of spice to tantalize your taste buds. They offer a flavorful plate of fish and fries with great cocktails and live music every day.

6. Cristino’s Coal Oven Pizza

Cristino’s is a family business where three brothers born in Italy but raised in Brooklyn opened a trattoria in Clearwater, Florida. The pizza is thin crust in a 12-inch or 16-inch size that feeds a crowd. Along with the tantalizing pizza, the menu features paninis, salads, pastas, and entrées.

When we arrived, the coal oven was warming up, preparing to churn out incredible pizza for evening diners. After it was hot, we had our large-sized Margherita pizza on the table and it was worth waiting for. This pizza ranks as one of the best I’ve tried in the Gulf area, plus the selection of gelato made for an incredible finish to an authentic pizzeria meal.

7. Clear Sky On Cleveland

Beignets and berries make for a tasty brunch at Clear Sky on Cleveland.

Clear Sky on Cleveland is a global bistro on historic Cleveland Street that has a dynamite brunch on the weekends. The front dining room is dark and pubby with wood paneling on the walls and an old-fashioned brass rail bar. In the back, there’s a garden dining room brimming with potted plants and rays of sunlight. In either space, diners enjoy a menu of Mexican, French, and American dishes that are inventive and satisfying.

We arrived for brunch, so I selected the beignets and berries entrée. This deep-fried puff pastry is rolled into cylinders and topped with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and a caramel drizzle. My husband ordered fried chicken on a biscuit and the portion was huge. We shared both to get a sweet and savory meal that satisfied our cravings. I also tried their “Build Your Own Bloody Mary” and chose the heat level and fixings from a list that spanned from olives to bacon to add to my glass. It was a fun experience to craft my own cocktail and the food hit the spot.

8. Ocean Hai

Located at the Wyndham Grand Hotel, Ocean Hai boasts the premier Asian-fusion cuisine, inspired by locally sourced ingredients and fresh-caught seafood. Blending classic American techniques with adventurous Asian flavors, Ocean Hai offers something for everyone.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a negative review about Ocean Hai. Its breakfast buffet is exceptional, the lunchtime dim sum is top-notch, and you’ll love the sunset while dining on the outdoor patio.

Pair any of their signature dishes with hand-crafted cocktails, a local beer, or a bottle of wine from Ocean Hai’s expertly crafted wine list in a refined, stylish, and welcoming atmosphere.

9. Bait House Tackle & Tavern

Looks may be deceiving with Bait House Tackle & Tavern. However, this dockside fish shack and tackle shop has some of the best fresh seafood in the town. Bait House is one of the smallest restaurants in Clearwater Beach with just a handful of tables for outdoor seating plus a few bar stools.

They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and are usually very busy at weekends, so be prepared to potentially wait for a little if you come during typical lunch and dinner hours. And after the sun goes down, Bait House Tackle & Tavern is still going strong with live entertainment and a great assortment of beer and wine.

Bonus: Chiang Mai Thai And Sushi Bar

Chiang Mai Thai and Sushi Bar is lavishly decorated in authentic Thai furnishings and décor. The restaurant is located around the corner from the Capitol Theater, which makes it a delicious stop before or after a concert. We arrived for an early dinner and were welcomed by attentive and helpful servers. We asked a few questions to help narrow our choices and the feedback was excellent.

We began with pan-seared dumplings served alongside a sweet soy dipping sauce. For entrées, we chose green curry with chicken milk; you can adjust the heat to your taste. We also chose shrimp pad Thai and basil chicken. Every dish arrived on beautiful animal-shaped pottery platters and was addictive. The fresh ingredients and authentic Thai options were sensational. If you enjoy Thai, this is a terrific place to savor it in downtown Clearwater.

Best Hotels in Isla Mujeres Guide

Searching for luxury hotels in Isla Mujeres involves delving into various aspects that enhance your stay and ensure you make the most of your trip to this beautiful island. Here are five tips to keep in mind as you book a stay.

Location and Accessibility

When searching for luxury hotels in Isla Mujeres, the location within the island plays a crucial role in shaping your experience. Opt for a hotel that aligns with your vacation goals.

If you’re interested in vibrant nightlife and easy access to restaurants and shops, consider staying closer to the island’s northern end, near Playa Norte, known for its stunning beaches and clear waters.

Southern parts offer more secluded options for travelers seeking tranquillity and natural immersion, close to attractions like Punta Sur. This is also close to the beautiful Garrafon Natural Reef Park, making it ideal for waterspout lovers.

Remember, Isla Mujeres is relatively small, so moving around is fairly straightforward, but choosing a location that minimizes travel time to your preferred activities can enhance your experience.

Another thing to think about is whether you want a hotel with a private beach or access to their own beach clubs, which gives you a way to soak up the sun without the crowds.

Amenities and Services

The range of amenities an Isla Mujeres hotel offers can significantly impact your stay. Look for hotels that provide services that align with your needs. If relaxation is a priority, search for hotels with spa services, yoga classes, and wellness centers.

Families might prioritize hotels with kid-friendly activities, pools, and babysitting services. Water sports enthusiasts should consider hotels offering or facilitating activities like snorkeling, diving, and kayaking.

Always check if the hotel provides Wi-Fi, especially if you need to stay connected for work or personal reasons. Reading recent reviews can give you a clearer picture of what to expect regarding service quality and amenities.

Type of Accommodation

Isla Mujeres offers various accommodations, from luxury resorts and boutique hotels to budget-friendly hostels and vacation rentals. Your choice should reflect your budget and the experience you’re looking for.

Resorts and boutique hotels often provide a more comprehensive package with on-site restaurants, pools, and direct beach access. Vacation rentals or smaller hotels can offer a more personalized, homey feel, often at a lower cost.

Consider what atmosphere you prefer and whether you value privacy and quiet or the convenience and social aspects of larger, resort-style accommodations.

Eco-friendliness and Sustainability

Eco-tourism is growing in importance as travelers become more conscious of their environmental impact. With its natural beauty and marine life, Isla Mujeres is a place where sustainable tourism practices can make a difference.

Look for hotels that emphasize sustainability through practices like water conservation, solar energy use, recycling programs, and support for local conservation efforts.

Staying at eco-friendly hotels reduces your vacation’s environmental footprint and supports the local community and the preservation of the island’s natural beauty.

Booking Policies and Flexibility

Understanding a hotel’s booking policies can save you from potential headaches. Check cancellation policies, especially if your travel plans are not set in stone. With the unpredictability of travel, having the option to cancel for a full or partial refund can be invaluable.

Additionally, consider booking directly through the hotel’s website. Direct bookings often provide more flexibility, better customer service in case of issues, and sometimes even special deals or perks unavailable through third-party booking sites.
