The 21 Most Popular Vacation Homes In August 2022

    Allison Weston
    September 01, 2022

August, like July, has been another month celebrating the travel resurgence. Vacation home bookings, and vacations in general, continue to hit and surpass pre-COVID levels as most are ready to get out and explore. August brought about a lot of fall and winter trip bookings, so it’s no surprise that warm weather spots are surging. The most popular fall destinations include national parks, especially Yosemite, and bucket list road trip spots, like traveling the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky. Our readers are also planning to flock to Florida during the cooler months and favored international destinations, like Costa Rica and Italy.

    Videos by TravelAwaits

From the unique car-free Mackinac Island to the laidback Amelia Island, here are our TravelAwaits readers’ top 21 most-booked Vrbo vacation rentals during August 2022.

Editor’s Note: The rental homes are arranged in alphabetical order by destination for easy searching.

My husband and I had the good fortune of finding this very special rental home in Palm Springs. The owner, Andrew, couldn’t have been more accommodating, professional and easy to talk to. And Andrew’s House Manager, Steve, was incredibly helpful, attentive and the consummate host. The house was “as pictured” on the website. The entire home is impeccably decorated with clean lines, mid-century modern furniture and furnishings, cool artwork and much attention was paid to detail. The meticulously manicured grounds include five distinctively different seating areas that include two outdoor dining options. We took the opportunity to have many of our meals outdoors so that we could enjoy the peace and quiet. The sparkling pool was not only the “Star of the house,” but was immaculate, refreshing, and delightful. And what can I say about the kitchen? OMG! It was stocked with everything a foodie who cooks and bakes could ask for. Andrew was even gracious enough to provide me with a new rolling pin as I do quite a bit of baking when I’m on vacation. Bravo, Andrew! And thank you, Andrew for the jar of your homemade grapefruit preserves. What a surprise and culinary treat. As is our tradition, we hosted a small dinner party for our local friends and was able to set a spectacular table using the quality place settings, dishes, flatware, serving trays and glassware perfectly organized and stored. It was an overwhelming success. When we come back to Palm Springs, this will definitely be where we will be kicking off our shoes and jumping into the pool.
Palm Springs, mid-century modern, impeccably maintained and everything you need for a wonderful escape. Load up at the grocery so you and your guests will have no reason to leave. Bright and open, it has a wonderful vibe. Owner Andrew and concierge Steve were very accommodating as well. There is also a completely outfitted kitchen with quality table settings to suit any affair. We’ll be back!
Amazing pool& backyard very private as well , we had 3 adults 4 teens ,everyone was comfortable ,the kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed to cook with . The dishes& silverware were like a classy restraunt style, I loved cooking one of the nights, it was 120 one of the days ,but we stayed cool .Andrew responded quickly to any quistions ,Steve our greeter was very informative as well.wish we could of stayed a week, will definitely be back, thanks for everything Andrew .
My friends and I visited Palm Spring for a vacation and we had such amazing time here. Living is very spacious and the rooms were very comfortable. Master bedroom was very unique in design and the great art works were everywhere. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything and the house was greatly sound-proof even though the doors that led to the pool were made of glass. Steve, the manager of this property, recommended many attractions and took good care of us. We would definitely come back here for a vacation!

We absolutely love staying in this amazing home. In fact, it’s our second time. Thank you so much for having us, especially a few days before we tied the knot.
Just had a wonderful 12 days at this property. Peter was super responsive to any request- just a joy to communicate with. The house and yard are very private and quiet – only a block off the #111 and could not hear a thing. A short Uber to town. Loved the pool and spa – didn’t even need to heat the pool! The fire pit was perfect for star gazing at night. Highly recommend this property – 10 stars!E and R
One of our top VRBO rentals. Description of the property is accurate. Cleanliness, spaciousness, and ease of getting into the property was a huge plus. Pool is perfect for a couple and includes floats and comfy lounge chairs. The proximity to downtown Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, and Coachella Valley was perfect. We enjoyed Lulu’s restaurant downtown for many meals, and the Vons supermarket is just across the way. Very convenient to everything Palm Springs. Peter was also a pleasure to chat with. Thank you for a great stay!!!
We were obsessed with our stay! We never wanted to leave the house. Peter was so responsive and helpful. Thanks so much!
This place was an absolute dream. I think everyone agreed that the home was one of their favorite parts of the trip. The architecture of the home truly embodied the Palm Spring’s atmosphere, and the decor was incredibly welcoming. Pete was a fabulous host every step of the way.

Costa Rica – Majestic Villa In Cloud Forest$350/nightly avg

Majestic Villa in the Clouds in Costa Rica

This heavenly home is a divine way to experience Costa Rica’s famous Cloud Forest. The protected area, deep in the country’s highlands, is said to be home to 2.5 percent of the Earth’s species, so you’re certain to see something incredible. There are incredible things to be seen without even leaving the grounds as the home is a genuine architectural marvel. Part treehouse and part airship, it seems a mixture of the primeval and utopian futurism. Enjoy eats from the local co-op and bakery. Hell, enjoy everything! All there is to enjoy can be found right here in this hilly paradise. That’s how it’ll feel when you’re at the villa, anyway.

Costa Rica – Chalet In Quiet Valley$149.30/nightly avg

This contemporary home, though quite splendid, pales in comparison to the majesty of the volcanic slopes on which it rests. It is on the grounds of Poas Volcano National Park, Costa Rica’s second-most popular. Waterfalls, monkeys, and beautiful birds can all be found within walking distance. The home is an elegant 21st-century construction, with ample glass and high ceilings. There’s room for a sizable group or family across three twin bedrooms and room for more on the sofa bed.

There’s so much to see in Costa Rica, but you might find yourselves wanting to stay here. It does make a great base as its position in the central Alajuela Province makes adventures to other corners of the country practical.

Very nice place. If you want to see waterfalls and hike, this location is ideal. Locals are friendly. We were visited by a local dog and kitty that were beyond affectionate. Added a level of happiness. House is modern and clean. Did not have any difficulties.
    Amazing stay!
The house was amazing and great views. We enjoyed exploring the area, beautiful waterfalls and a wonderful trip to Arenal. Restaurants nearby and a local store for items needed. A bit of a glitch with check-in, property wasn’t ready until an hour later – hard to kill time after a long day of travel. The property had everything needed and a well stocked kitchen for cooking. We definitely enjoyed our stay!
We spent Christmas here and what a quaint and beautiful area in the mountains! The backyard is gorgeous with the beautiful mountain views and the chalet was perfect for our family. We had many game nights in the upstairs loft, which is perfect for that.
Nice place, clean and confortable. Danny is an excelent help, nice treat. We hope will return soon.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time the first 2 days of our stay and Medea was an Awesome host! She was so attentive to our every need and very quick to respond. The unit was everything they advertised clean with a breathtaking view and easy beach access. Hurricane Ian messed up our paradise the 3rd day and we had to evacuate but Medea was so understanding and graciously refunded our last 2 days. Thank you Medea for sharing your oasis with us! We will definitely be back! God Bless you and your family.
The condo is in a great location. It’s not too busy and the beach is beautiful. Lots of shells! Medea was wonderful to work with. Condo was very clean and we loved that it felt so private with the corner unit and amazing views. Bed was super comfortable and great master shower. She really does have everything you need in the condo! Can’t wait to go back!
We had a wonderful week staying at this condo for our summer family vacation. It was perfect for the four of us. The location and accommodations were great. Even the weather (although hot) was awesome as well. Medea (the owner) was very attentive to all our needs and was proactive with communications. The only recommendation that I would have is to upgrade the beach chairs or just bring your own. Again, it’s a great place and I can see us staying there again.
    – everything was just as expected and owner was so nice! Will book again in the future
Really an enjoyable time would stay again

The good: Superb location. The unit was very clean and the towels and linens were of good quality. The bad: 1. There were no instructions or information located in the unit concerning:Internet network. We connected to an unsecured network requiring no password, but the network signal was extremely weak and frequently unresponsive. Goff cart usage (included in the rental). Where were the keys? We had to search for them and fortunately found them but they were not labeled. Also no Instructions were provided on how to operate the cart. (We had never driven a golf cart and did not know operating instructions.) A guide listing nearby restaurants, points of interest, tips, etc. or providing a map of the area showing this information would have been very helpful. 2. The air conditioning was extremely loud, likely exceeding safe decibel levels. We had to close the bedroom door in an attempt to muffle the the system (located in adjoining closet). We also had to turn the air conditioning off to talk on the phone and to hear the TV in the living room.
Very nice apt, great view of the Gulf of Mexico. Fully equipped to have a great time on the beach. Our sons had fun with the body surfing boards, cooler with wheels was perfect for fresh food, water and ice. A few steps from the beach. Golf cart was super fun and useful. We didn’t have the WiFi information when we arrived but the admin was helpful and in contact with us through txt msg. He gave us the password and we were all set.
My fiancé and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it! Short distance away from food, the pool and the ocean! Loved the golf cart access!
The place was really great! The bedroom was comfy and living room had 2 great fold out couches. The pool is 20 steps away and the beach is 20 steps past that! I highly recommend staying here, and the golf cart was a fan fave as well! Morning beach run, then golf cart trip to Starbucks was a perfect way to start the day. Marcus was super responsive as well. TI noticed a prior review about the AC but it’s controlled with a normal thermostat and very easy to use. The unit stayed cool and it was 97 out : )We are planning on coming back in the winter
Everything was awesome. The property and access to the beach were fantastic. Incredible sunsets every night.

Property was great, close to beach and lots of restaurants. Was very comfortable for our stay with plenty of hang out areas.
This house was fabulous!!! Exactly as pictured and described. We were an extended family of six adults and three children. We all loved it!!! The pool was so nice as was the patio and cabana room. The screened in porch allowed view of pool and was an excellent early am and evening spot. Easy access to restaurants and stores. Walking distance if fit and like to walk! Beach is truly only a 3 minute walk down a mostly shaded path. The owner provides chairs and umbrellas and a wagon for beach, We had one minor issue with pool and Kevin responded immediately!!! We loved our visit and highly recommend this property.
This was our second stay. The house is fantastic. Perfect for our family of 5 could sleep 4 more on the room in the basement. Owner was amazing to work with! We will be back next year!
We had a great stay and the host was really good about answering a ton of questions we had prior. The home was in nice shape and had everything we needed for our stay, the pool and the beach. The pool was a nice size and the beach was a quick walk and suitable for young kids. Most shops, restaurants, etc are all in easy walking distance. Such a nice, quiet, hidden gem if you are looking to just relax in this secluded yet efficient area.
We were very pleased with the house. We loved the open floor plan of the main floor and kitchen for gathering as a family. The proximity to the beach was great with an easy walk to the sand. The house was clean with ample space and some great things that we didn’t expect. The amount of beach chairs, umbrellas, and toys was a nice surprise. Perhaps it was in the listing but it was also awesome to have four cruise bikes in the garage. The pool was excellent and it was phenomenal to have all the floaters available. The only minor gripes were : sand in the pool, a very slow ice maker, and mediocre draining in the kitchen sink. All in all though these are minor in comparison to how nice our stay was here.

The views are like a poatcard. We had our morning coffee on the balcony listening to the waves and sat steps away on the beach itself to watch the sun set every night. Some nights dolphins were visible from the beach. The condo itself was clean and spacious and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Bruce was easy to communicate with and provided enough information so that we knew exactly what to expect, where to find what we needed, and how to access all parts of the fabulous property. 10/10 We would vacation here again!
Absolutely loved the condo. Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was how clean the entire place was. It has everything you need to feel just like home. The living room area was very comfortable along with the beds in the bedroom. Loved having the double sink! Big bonus for us was the 5G wifi and the fact we could still connect while on the beach as we didn’t have data on our phones with not being from the States. The beach is beautiful and steps away along with the pool that was relaxing and refreshing after a day in the sand and ocean. Finally, the view is breathtaking from every single spot in the condo. We had morning coffee and dinner on the balcony watching the dolphins in the ocean and beautiful sunsets. The view is unbelievable!!!Bruce was so thoughtful and quick to respond to any inquires during our booking process. He even sent us a message on the day we arrived to check in to make sure we arrived safely and the condo was perfect. We loved our stay and will definitely be back. We didn’t want to leave.
We just spent almost two weeks at Ocean Sands and we loved it! This property is in a great location, close to John’s Pass, lots of restaurants, grocery stores and shops and, most importantly…right on the beach! We watched dolphins daily from the balcony and beautiful sunsets every night. Bruce is terrific to deal with. He provided all information needed and answered any questions or concerns we had very quickly. The unit and the building are very well maintained and equipped. There are even some necessities there to get you started, or if you have forgotten things from home. There are beach towels, chairs and umbrellas available as well. The beds are very comfortable with nice quality cotton sheets (no microfibre). We look forward to spending time here again in the future…highly recommend this rental and owner!
Wonderful Condo with everything you need!! Close to many restaurants & shops!! Would highly recommend!!
This property was very clean and very well equipped with anything I needed! The view is priceless, the owner was easy to work with, and he provided detailed instructions for everything! Awesome stay!!

Situated on the southern end of the island and half a mile away from each of Marco’s two main beaches, this home’s dock is just a few hundred feet from the warm waters of the Gulf. Its mix of modern style and timeless tropical atmosphere is classic Florida.

From the master bedroom’s beautiful bathtub to the elegant light fixtures, this house really is a slice of paradise. The kitchen is almost as bright as the lanai (which features a pool, this being Marco Island). Renting a boat will certainly add to your experience as there’s much more to see at sea than there is on land, as any local will tell you.

Rating Details:The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless.I was very happy with the location.I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.Reviewer Comments:We had a great time staying at this home but there are definitely some things that could be improved. The house was clean and had everything needed to cook, swim and go to the beach. This home was located in a pretty good spot… quick drive to the beach and many local restaurants. We had a great time in the pool. The canal location was a little disappointing as it was at the end of canal run so the water was fairly dirty in the canal and not much to see unless you are bringing your boat along. There is construction on the houses on both sides of this place so there is some loud noise during the day and I even got a nail in the tire of the rental car which I suspect was on the road right near the rental. The garage door alarm/auto close of 1 minute needs to be changed as it nearly closed on my car hatch as I was unloading the car and kids which could have caused damage to my rental vehicle. I also thought it was a litte cheap of management to leave only 2 trash bags and 2 laundry detergent packets and still expect you to wash all the sheets and towels upon leaving so you only really get 1 wash of your own clothes/towels unless you buy more detergent… I get that some people may take advantage and take the remaining products but I’m guessing most people that can afford this rental will not be of that mindset. Overall, we had a great time at this rental and loved the location but there are some changes that could be made to make the experience better.
A miscommunication about Check in led us into a house that was not yet serviced by the cleaning crew. A quick call to management and that was resolved along with a gift card to the Oyster Society! Location and the house was perfect. Cant wait till I can book again. Highly recommend

The house was well-appointed and impeccably clean. The master suite is amazing, and is on one side of the house with the two other bedrooms (perfect for our kids) on the other side. We loved the pool, and we saw dolphins in the canal every day.Of note, the house next door is under construction. The house was well-appointed and impeccably clean. The master suite is amazing, and is on one side of the house with the two other bedrooms (perfect for our kids) on the other side. We loved the pool, and we saw dolphins in the canal every day.Of note, the house next door is under construction. Marco Island – Inviting Home Near The Beach$283/nightly avg

About half a mile from the beach, this property promises guests privacy at home and easy access to the water. The yard features a lanai complete with pool and tall vegetation to ensure a sense of seclusion. There’s a master bedroom with a king and ensuite as well as two queen rooms and extra sleeping space on the sofa bed.

Potted plants and sealife decorations add a tropical flourish to this homey rental. The kitchen is fully equipped, but we expect many guests will appreciate the proximity of nearby restaurants, including ThaiSushi by KJ and Joey’s, the local pizza joint.

We had a fantastic time at this property! Close to the beach, easy parking (get there before 10!) and just the relaxing sort of vacation we needed.
Marco Island Vacation Properties was very responsive when we had a few issues arise. The house has a perfect central location close to the beach and also close to shops, but also a nice quiet neighborhood. As other reviewers have stated the house could use a deep cleaning. Overall we had a nice stay.
The house is nice but desperately needs a deep clean and updating to keep it current. Suggestions: organize and clean out the kitchen cabinets, replace worn out pots and pans, new blender (missing pieces of the top), dust ceiling fans (outdoor too), wipe down baseboards, paint the ceilings, furniture in front bedroom was missing knobs and falling apart (pieces of the bed were not assembled), window coverings are dirty and most didn’t function fully or at all, replace all TVs with SMART TVS, beach umbrella was completely broken (we found out after we already brought it to the beach), beach chairs were full of trash, need more bath towels to accommodate full capacity, and the wifi router needs to be replaced. It was non functional for 2 days then worked spottily and was never remedied. We had 3 people in the home attempting to work remotely so this was extremely frustrating. Master bath shower has mold and toilet ran often. Very misleading to say it’s walking distance to the beach.
Our family enjoyed our week on Marco. The property is close to Tigertail Beach (We did drive each day-it’s quite a hike once you park your car).Having beach chairs/wagon was so nice and made it much easier to get all our things to the beach. The pool was really nice. It would have been helpful to have known what day/time the pool cleaner was coming though as he arrived pretty early and we were all still in our jammies. Overall the house was nice and very spacious for us but not particularly clean. I think it would be good for the property to be deep cleaned monthly (kitchen drawers dirty, lot of dust on tables, plants and decor&lots of dust on the baseboards and under furniture). having basic cleaning supplies would also be nice because many families do like to clean up during their stay & it’s not realistic for guests to buy their own for short stays. Back patio was also really nice to have and it’s pretty private from neighbors (do recommend the patio floor & around the pool be sprayed between guests).
Rating Details:The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless.I was very happy with the location.I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.Reviewer Comments:We had a very nice stay. It is in a convenient area. The walk to the lagoon is easy but you do have to cross the lagoon to get to the beach or walk a ways down towards the high rises. We were asked to replaced disposables in the house that we used. When we arrived there were 2 extra toilet paper, one partial paper towel and just the kitchen bag in the container. There was no napkins, dish soap, dishwasher soap or laundry soap. We bought and left some of all of these. Marco Island Vacation Properties were very helpful in keeping in touch so we knew our responsibilities.

    Tuscany

Tuscany – Oasis Villa La Poiana$381.60/nightly avg

Though humbler than other entries on this list, Villa la Poiana nevertheless promises guests a taste of Italy, a morsel so savory and wholesome as to capture the diner’s palette and leave them wanting more. Guests will enjoy stunning views of the countryside from atop the hill on which the villa sits. The grounds, though small, boast gardens, olive trees, and a beautiful pool.

The interior is a mix of rustic wooden beams and stone walls with modern furniture. Perfect for a family or small group, the home has four queen bedrooms (one of which also contains a twin bed). The ancient village of Buti has around a dozen restaurants and is reachable on foot via a 5-minute walk. For those going further afield, the property is well-placed to explore the breadth of Tuscany, with all the major cities and towns reachable in less than an hour by car.

Marco’s villa was the best villa we experienced in Italy. We were a family of 4 adults and 3 children, this property can definitely accommodate 9 persons. The property was clean well equipped and in a very good condition. It was clear that Marco wanted to provide us great experience. The view down to the valley is amazing. Marco gave us great recommendation for transportation, dinner options day trip and wineries. Marco that was great to meet a host who is so interested in the satisfaction of his guests, we definitely will come again.
Marco Viti’s villa in Buti is superb, the setting is beautiful with views down into the valley, it is thoughtfully and beautifully furnished, with a well equipped kitchen and a fabulous wood-fired outdoor oven. The pool and outdoor sitting and dining areas are terrific. A beautiful place.
My family and I had the BEST vacation in Buti/the Tuscany area and Marco was such an excellent host. The property was clean, beautiful and the pictures honestly don’t do it justice! Marco was great at communicating and gave us the best recommendations from dinner spots to day trips and wineries. I also HIGHLY recommend asking Marco about the in-home chef for your stay – we booked two nights of this and chef Daniella & her team were absolutely fabulous and gave us such an authentic Italian experience. The second we arrived we already talked about booking again! Thank you for the greatest experience Marco – such a memorable family vacation.
Great location and a perfect property
This is one of the best properties we have stayed at! So comfortable, well equipped, amazing views, great pool! I don’t have anything negative to say. The hosts were lovely, communication very good and prompt, it was a lovely relaxing week in a beautiful place.

    Tuscany – Le Valle$1,700/nightly avg

Dating back to the 16th century, this lovingly restored villa promises guests an unforgettable exploration of the Italian way of life as well as the Tuscan countryside. The property consists of a former farm and watch tower which, in days past, were associated with the local castle. It is a mere 12 miles from Florence.

The historic structure is complimented with extravagant traditional furnishings, with an emphasis on 18th-century antiques. Modern elements have been added, including a steam shower and outdoor pool. From the marbled bathrooms to the rich decorative fabrics, the home is a showcase of the material beauty of Europe. There is natural beauty as well, seen throughout the villa’s grounds and in the views of the surrounding countryside.

Le Valle is nothing short of magical. You feel the familiar comfort of being at home while at the same being pampered and cared for by the wonderful hosts, Lucia and Santiago. The view, the villa, the grounds, the pool(!), and the vibe were second to none and surpassed all our dreams. The best meals we had during our 2 week European adventure were created by Fabrizio. He is not only a world class chef, but a world class human being. Would love to come back again. Highly recommend.
Everything about this beautiful property was perfect for our group of family and friends. The villa and guest house are appointed for comfort and enjoyment. (Coffee lovers in our group were delighted to start each day with cappuccinos brewed in the professional espresso machine!) We rotated among the four outdoor eating locations, enjoying the views of olive groves, the Tuscan hills, and the sun setting behind the nearby castle. Caretakers Santiago and Lucia ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our week and we loved our welcome dinner and pizza making class with chef Fabrizio. The location allowed for easy trips into Florence and the surrounding countryside. We had very active days, and days spent on site, hiking the trail that surrounds the villa and lounging by the pool. (The pool was especially popular with our tweens, as was the chess set!) Le Valle more than lives up to the reviews and the description you’ll find here. It was the centerpiece of a fantastic Tuscan experience.
Gorgeous property with all the comforts of home. Santiago and Lucia were phenomenal caretakers all week of our family and the property. The owners are extremely responsive and have thought through almost anything you could need while staying here. Loved the La Marzocco espresso machine as well! Thank you!
So many great things to say about Le Valle. Leading up to our stay, Barry and Jody were frequent contact, providing detailed information about the house and surrounding area. They were quick to respond to any question and gave well informed recommendations for restaurants, wineries, activities, and even parking in Florence! On the day of arrival, Santiago and Lucia, the property caretakers were there to meet us and give us the grand tour. A welcome dinner provided by chef Fabrizio was the perfect finish to our arrival day as he is both affable and a skilled chef. The property itself is located about 30 minutes from Florence and within approximately an hour of many notable towns like Siena and Volterra. The house is away from the hustle and bustle of Florence and basically in the countryside near Strada in Chianti. The house and guest house are as advertised and depicted in the listing. There entire property was ours and included a fantastic pool and multiple outdoor areas to relax. Wood burning pizza oven? Yep. Garden with countless tomatoes, basil, lettuce available to pick and eat? Yep. Plum tree with tasty fruit? Of course. The kitchen is well equipped including a top of the line espresso maker to provide the best espresso you could ask for. All the bed rooms have air conditioners and the guest house living room is also air conditioned. The main house living areas were cool enough even in the middle of the summer heat wave if you strategically kept the doors and windows closed during the middle of the day and opened the windows in the evenings. Santiago and Lucia were super friendly and always available for any issues. They provided basic cleaning and trash removal on most days. If you want to truly immerse yourself in storybook Tuscany, this is the place to go. Thanks to Barry and Jody for sharing their incredible estate!
When we rented La Valle we had high expectations based on the property description and it’s multiple 5 star reviews. But as we drove through the imposing gates and down the long winding driveway we knew that this property was going to vastly exceed our expectations. As we got out of our cars we were met by the “welcoming committee” who gave us refreshments and introduced us to the property. We were literally without words. The house and gardens were impeccable maintained and they are jaw dropping gorgeous. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. The housekeeper, Valeria, was such a pleasure to be around she was so helpful. Fabricio the chef, who cooked our welcome meal, was nothing short of a exceptional. In fact that meal was so delicious and the experience so wonderful that we hired him to come back to cook for us later in the week. While at the property we were kept busy swimming in the beautiful marble-lined swimming pool, at the pizza oven, playing ping-pong, and taking hikes. The information that the owners left for us was so helpful. We were able to take wonderful day trips throughout the Chianti region, we visited several wineries and the cities of Pisa, Luca, Siena and Florence. But the best part was always coming back home to La Valle. And e e plan to come back again soon. We give this very special property our highest recommendation!!

Tuscany – Old Country Villa$101.33/nightly avg

The Old Country Villa sits on a stunning 5,000 square feet fenced plot, complete with sprawling gardens and large private swimming pool. The property is surrounded by olive groves and overlooks the city of Lucca, a short 6 mile drive away. Take in these serene views while sipping a glass from the vine-covered gazebo steps outside the front door.

However, don’t get too distracted by the outdoor scenery to forget to oogle the charming interior of this villa. The decor is beautiful and thoughtfully unique, without being too stuffy. The home has a large living room to gather around the cozy fireplace and a fully-equipped kitchen, both ceiled with exposed brick and wooden beams. The three bedrooms include four beds, making this an ideal option for family travelers. Plus, you can’t beat the nightly price.

My husband and I couldn’t have been happier staying at Stefania’s house outside of Lucca. Everything worked out perfectly for us for our week’s stay. The location is great. The house is in a very residential and quiet neighborhood, but an easy drive to all food stores and services you might need. And only about a 15 minute drive into Lucca, where you can park just outside the walls and walk all over that lovely city. Plus of course Pisa, the sea, and all the other delights of visiting Tuscany. The house itself is charming, with an open plan living room/dining room/kitchen downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs. Everything in the house is nicely decorated but it’s also very comfortable. The living room seating is comfortable, with good reading lights, the bed and pillows are super-comfortable (we slept so well) and the outdoor chairs for sitting in the garden are also comfortable for relaxing in the late day sun after a day of sightseeing. Which brings me to the garden, which is pretty much the highlight of the property. The grounds are beautiful with space to sit in the sun or shaded under the pergola where there is a dining table. There is also a lovely pool, but it wasn’t the season for using a pool when we were there in April. I imagine the pool is a huge benefit for people who stay in the summer. And finally the owner, Stefania, was really great. She was very helpful before we arrived with advice on restaurants and even made us reservations. And she checked on us regularly during the week to make sure everything was going well. And it always was, because her place is so well maintained and instructions very clear. You can’t go wrong renting this home.
We couldn’t be happier for having chosen to stay at Stefania’s beautiful traditional cottage in Capannori . We stayed for a month for a working holiday and found it very comfortable with all amenities available – kitchen, wifi, bathroom, heating, etc. The garden is an absolute dream, even though we stayed here during winter… imagine in summer!! Stefania is a very welcoming and responsive host, and did everything to make sure we had an amazing stay – thank you! She also made a very valid recommendation regarding our means of heating the house in order to manage the cost, which we found very helpful – we definitely recommend making the most of the fireplace as much as possible! The location was just right for a quiet holiday close to the city (10-15 mins from Lucca and close enough to other great places which we had the privilege of visiting, including Chianti, Florence, Prato, Pistoia and others). Baker, butcher, supermarket are only a short drive away. Staying at the Pennecchio was a dream and it was a pity we had to leave, but will definitely highly recommend it and hope to stay here again some day 🙂
We had a brilliant stay in this, well-equipped , traditionally renovated Tuscan cottage (brilliant, new fridge-freezer). It’s extremely clean and we appreciated the enormous, well fenced, secure garden for our dogs, who loved it here. You do need a car but it is very well situated to visit Lucca, Pisa and Florence. Stefania is very friendly, easily contactable, extremely efficient and an amazing host. Nothing was too much trouble, which was especially invaluable in these Covid times. The house is in a small hamlet but the neighbours are very friendly. We stayed during the winter period and made a lot of use of the wonderful log burner. We were in lockdown for some of the time so it was useful to have plenty of walking straight from the house onto the Route de Ville, which had some beautiful houses to admire. We would highly recommend the villa for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. We hope to return very soon. Grazie mille Stefania, a presto.
Stefania was an amazing and very helpful host throughout the whole trip. The house was equally great and very enjoyable: the garden with the olive trees was the highlight: perfectly fenced for dogs and beautiful to look at, while snacking on olives and drinking in the shade of the pergola. Highly recommended.
Stefania is a fantastic host kept us informed throughout, the whole process was very smooth, the house and garden are great everthing you need ,there are lots of books and info on surrounding places to visit, you definitely need a car as nothing in walking distance, its very quite and peaceful and relaxing, beds are comfy lots of extra bedding and quilts if needed, it was nice to sit out under the pergola and eat with a few drinks, even when it was raining. Altogether its a lovely villa and grounds would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Tuscany and the surrounding areas.

    Great place, excellent location.
Unit is nicely updated and absolutely spotless. Very generous of owner to leave K-cups, cleaning supplies, and waters in the refrigerator. Only thing I would suggest is that the 4th floor skylights have blinds installed to keep out the hot afternoon sunshine.
This was the perfect spot for a guys trip to bourbon country. Great location and walkable to restaurants in Lexington. Would definitely book again. Thanks!
Great setup for several couples visiting Lexington. Three bedrooms have their own bathroom, there is ample hang out space, and its walkable to bars and restaurants. Its a beautiful home! My only warning is that the garage is tiny – we were not comfortable parking anything other than a sedan in the garage space. Also, though it was relatively easy to find street parking, there was minimal street parking on the street the house is on; we had to walk a couple blocks.
Really nice property with easy access to all that Lexington has to offer. Would definitely book again next time I’m in Lexington.

It was a lovely guest house. Plenty of room and very clean.
This was my first experience with renting a house, and I must say, It was an amazing experience! Beautiful setting, quiet, plenty of room, great property owner, and the list goes on!! I look forward to stay here again, as we make “up north” our go to vacation spot! This place had zero disappointments! They view from the beach, was truly amazing!
Was great, would recommend to others Could use some more privacy on windows, but over a great place to stay, close to the ferry terminal. Ray
What a lovely sojourn in St. Ignace with beautiful views of The Mackinac Bridge and Lake Huron. This slice of UP Paradise is very convenient to ferries crossing to Mackinaw Island. It is a literal breath of fresh air to arrive here after a day in the Mackinaw crowds. Susan is the perfect host….accessible, but unintrusive. The guest house is just lovely!
Definitely one of the cleanest and best appointed homes that we have rented. Lovely setting and will stay there again.

We had a wonderful family vacation. There were 6 adults and 4 children (5,3, and two one year olds). The property is well maintained and a great location. We keep our sailboat at Duncan Bay ((Cheboygan) every summer. This home allowed us to have all the family together at the same time.We enjoyed the beach every day. With little ones, we didn’t do day trips. We thoroughly enjoy Cheboygan and always visit the Children’s’ Trail and the Creation Station.
Our second visit to this property, it is large and clean and charming! great location, we will be back!
The property was even better than the pictures. The views were spectacular!!! The house was beautiful, super clean and fresh. They added great little touches like shampoo’s and a snack basket. It could not have been more welcoming. It was very well situation if you are interested in visiting the island. I cannot say enough good things about this property. You will not be disappointed!!!

Yosemite National Park – Gateway Chalet$481/nightly avg

For those looking to avoid the crowds, this family-friendly chalet east of the park’s border is an excellent hideaway. Most visitors enter Yosemite through the western entrances and head straight to the Yosemite Valley. Far too few go the extra mile to take in the Tuolumne Meadows. These scenic pastures are just 45 minutes from this luxurious chalet, as are Pothole Dome and Lember Dome, impressive, hikable, and generally overlooked granite monoliths. The spacious cabin is full of wonderful touches, from the clawfoot bathtub and hydrotherapy tub to the oak bar and the trees growing straight through the deck. Enjoy great mountain views here. Great time
Location is great for various hikes and entry into Yosemite. Located at June Lake where paddle boards, kayaks and boats are a must. House is extremely spacious and family friendly! Beautiful Mountain Views from all the bedrooms. Great hike straight out the back door. Excellent vacation spot.
Perfect base of operations for June Lake, Yosemite, Bodie, and NE Sierras. The house is roomy but cozy. Nice kitchen. Only complaint was a fishy smell from the fridge, but we cleaned it and got rid of most of the odor. Will definitely rent here again!
While the location is wonderful, communication with owner, prompt, architecture beautiful, ammenities are outdated — our guess circa 1970’s. It simply wasn’t “modern” nor “luxurious.” Spa never warmed beyond bath temperature and spa cover is so old with cracks it can’t keep the heat in. Kitchen was an irritant rather than a relaxing and enjoyable space — cupboard doors clap loudly when closed, microwave is circa 1970 (Amana radar range), cookware is mostly a mismatch of what may have bought also in 1970’s. It was an irritant to use. There are no curtains on windows in the master bedrooms – very early morning sunshine directly on our faces forced us to an early rise until we chose to buy eye masks. We thought we were paying for a “modern and luxurious” home to enjoy cooking, hot jacuzzi’s, and late morning, wake ups in addition to the magnificent June Lake Loop. While we loved the lakes, we’ll return next time to true “modern and luxurious” Mammoth Lakes rental.

Sweet quiet beautiful spot. Ian was a fabulous host. Hiking in the area stunning. Thank you.
Very lovely, attractive, clean, and comfortable log cabin. We had everything we needed. Beautiful view from the deck! Highly recommend.
My fiancé has a stroke and we had to relocate our wedding. I was told by the owner I would “receive a full refund.” Three months later, I was called and told to meet him to pick up the keys. Then, after I reminded him that I called him in April and canceled because my fiancé (now husband) had a stroke, I was told I had to also contact Vrbo as well. In my distress, I never even thought of that since the owner told me I’d “receive a full refund” from Vrbo. Over a month later, and at least 6 phone calls of 30 minutes to an hour with different Vrbo representatives and managers…as well as getting disconnected twice with no one ever calling me back, I still have not received a refund. Unbelievable! I would look for a different property.
Ian makes the check in absolutely seamless. We loved the location. Trail head convenience and the Double Eagle restaurant made it so pleasant. Cool house!
Beautiful views from an exceptional property. The cabin was lovely with everything you need and was perfect for a couple. Thank you, Ian!
