There’s nothing better than escaping the hustle and bustle over Labor Day weekend for a little TLC.

There’s just one catch: Planning a Labor Day getaway isn’t easy. First, you actually need to find a place to go, then craft an itinerary. Second, you need to get there—something that’s often complicated by heavy traffic and/or airport delays.
A nostalgic summer-camp-style hotel in Camden, Maine, called Camp DeForest, has an idea for you. Join their ‘No-Labor Day Weekend’. If you’re a fan of retro themes, the great outdoors, and cheeky activities like burning your to-do list, it’s a can’t-miss.
Here’s what to know about Camp DeForest’s first inaugural No-Labor Day Weekend special.
Inside Camp DeForest’s No-Labor Day Weekend program
Camp DeForest is a Select Registry property that’s taken home a slew of awards this year in categories like Craft Lodging Excellence – Stay for the Story and Craft Lodging Excellence – Travelers’ Choice. It even made its way onto the Michelin Guide.
It’s a boutique retreat that encapsulates the magic of summer camp, combining the comfort of hotel stays with the natural immersion of glamping. There are woodland trails to hike, cocktails around night campfires, and cozy cabins with 1950s retro flair. You can also grab a bite or a drink at three on-site spots: Lantern Bar, Happy Trails, and Camp Café.
It’s idyllic for families while still being low-key enough for couples and adults-only groups. In short, whether or not you’ll be around MidCoast Maine this Labor Day, you might want to keep it on your radar.
But if you want to join the No-Labor Day Weekend fun, you can expect more than hiking, campfire cocktails, and lawn games.
The property is putting on a list of unique events, including:
- The World’s Least Productive Field Day, including competitive hammock lounging, slow sack races, s’more architecture contests, and best OOO emails
- All champions of the Least Productive Field Day events will earn a No-Labor Merit Badge
- A weekend closing ceremony called the Retirement of Summer, in which all guests toss their to-do lists into a fire before toasting (more) s’mores
- Guests can also enjoy the nearby Windjammer Festival, which takes place in Camden over Labor Day Weekend
