The city recently announced the launch of its second annual Summer Send Off weekend-long event. Technically, it’s a four-day get-together that runs from August 27-30, with most of the fun taking place on two days. (Those two days will be determined based on weather reports leading up to the event.)
Even better, hotels are participating, with 25 properties offering savings of 15- 30%. Here’s what we know about the event, from activities to participating hotels.
Inside Ocean City’s Summer Send Off
The Summer Send Off includes four days of hot air balloons, giant kites, and laser shows. There’s something for the whole family as the small barrier island comes alive with unique and exhilarating shows.
Again, the actual dates for the main events haven’t been decided yet. We know that the main events will be scheduled on two days with the best weather, with balloons inflating and kites flying at 4 pm, then a laser show taking place from 8:30 – 9:30 pm.
Just a note: either the balloons or the kites will take flight, wind reports pending. Not both. However, hot air balloons will also be tied and illuminated along the Ocean City Boardwalk. You’ll get to see them up close, no matter what. The kites are also larger-than-life, dubbed ‘monster kites’.
You can dive into Ocean City’s Summer Send Off details directly on the city’s webpage. They advise bringing beach chairs for the laser show, as it will continue for an hour.
On the webpage, you can also explore participating hotels. They offer discounts between 15% and 30%, usually based on how many nights you stay. Hotel Monte Carlo, for example, offers 20% off stays of four nights or longer.
