Saginaw might not have the same reputation for summer travel as Mackinac Island, but it’s up there in terms of great sunshine-y escapes in the state of Michigan.

Technically, Saginaw is a small city in the Rust Belt. From its days as a General Motors manufacturing hub, it’s slowly transitioned to new horizons. Travel is one of them—and it’s not hard to see why.
The area has a hyper-cute city center that’s walkable and full of small shops and galleries, plus a few museums. Just outside the city, you can find expansive parks and lakes like Hoyt Park and Ojibway Island.
During my short trip with family back in 2019, it gave off very adorable Americana vibes. We weren’t the only family there to spend time together and enjoy the quaint, natural scenes.
We holed up in a small two-bedroom condo in the city. It worked well enough for our short stay, but I wouldn’t stay there again because it was very small. Instead, I’d book one of the VRBOS or Airbnbs in Saginaw listed below, which stand out thanks to their location, amenities, and other unique features.

VRBOs and Airbnbs in Saginaw that I’d book on my trip back
The Courthouse

This lovely three-bedroom rental is located in the heart of Saginaw. It has three bedrooms, including one with two twins, making it great for friend and/or family trips. You can walk to the town’s restaurants, galleries, and bars, along with a few of its green spaces. There’s also a front porch where you can enjoy your morning coffee before heading out for the day.
Charming Alexander Home

Built in 1914 and refurbished with modern touches, this rental has three bedrooms and a massive backyard. The unit is split into two floors, with one bedroom on the top floor. If you enjoy historic homes, check this one out—many of its original wood features have been carefully maintained. Like The Courthouse, this rental is also located downtown.
Valerie’s Loft

Speaking of historic homes, this apartment is located on the top floor of an 1890s-build downtown Saginaw home. That means two things: You’ve got a prime-time location and a rental that feels both antique-y and modern. Just know that it’s one of the smaller units on this list, and can only sleep two.
The Genesee Cottage

This basic two-bedroom cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood that’s close to the action. It’s a bit more affordable than the others, making it great for longer stays. There are two full bedrooms, along with a large backyard and a lovely front porch.
Cozy home with a large yard

Just three miles from downtown Saginaw, this cozy home sleeps up to five in three bedrooms. Though a bit small, it’s beautifully appointed and doesn’t feel cramped. There’s also a large yard that gives it a more spacious feel. Just know that the third bedroom is smaller and only fits a twin-size bed.
Mid-century modern retreat

Located in Saginaw Township South, you won’t be right in the mix with this stay, either. In exchange, you’ve got a stunning three-bedroom home that almost looks like a Mad Men set. It’s a great choice for larger groups that want to settle in for a longer stay.
