Whether you’re visiting to city-slick or to soak up American history, you’ll find that Boston has many hidden gems spread across its neighborhoods.

Each has its own distinct character, from Chinatown to Beacon Hill to Back Bay to North End. Toss in Fenway, Seaport, and West End, and there’s enough to keep you busy for a lot more than a weekend escape.
Thanks to its expansive public transportation system, which includes subway lines and even a ferry service, you basically have the keys to the city. Sure, there’s a learning curve when it comes to using public transportation and stringing together trip routes across great distances, but it can be done.
And it’ll keep you within budget—even if you’re on a tight one.
That being said, saving on rideshares won’t add up to much if you’re overspending on a hotel. If you have a taste for luxury, you’ll do well in Boston thanks to its many opulent properties. But you can still find affordable hotels in Boston that feel classy—and they’ll save you an arm and a leg.
If you’re looking for affordable hotels in Boston that aren’t rundown or out in the boonies, check out the list below.
10 affordable hotels in Boston that feel upscale—and aren’t in the boonies
CitizenM Boston North Station or CitizenM Boston Back Bay

If you’re ever looking for affordable hotels in Boston or beyond, I recommend looking for a citizenM. CitizenM properties have modern, colorful communal spaces that make bold statements—and they often include a rooftop bar or terrace. In Boston, you can choose between two citizenM hotels.
The first is in North Station, which comes with a 24/7 international restaurant, along with premium bedding. Many rooms also have stunning, expansive views. The second citizenM hotel is in Back Bay, which is a better location, in my opinion. There’s also plenty of space to work in the communal lounges.
Copley Square Hotel (Back Bay)

You’ve got everything you need for a comfortable stay at Copley Square Hotel, including an on-site restaurant and bar, along with a gym. Despite its reasonable prices, Copley Square Hotel has a classic interior design, making its basic rooms feel effortlessly zhuzhed up. As a perk, they also provide guests with designer toiletries, which also adds to the upscale feel.
YOTEL Boston (Seaport)

Similar to citizenM, you can always count on Yotel for a reliable hotel stay. In Boston, you get a great location, along with plenty of space to hang out on the properties. There’s a rooftop terrace, restaurant, bar, lounge, and a gym. Just know that the rooms are a bit small, and some have modular furniture in them.
Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall Boston (Downtown)

This Hyatt Centric gives you the perfect landing spot in Boston thanks to its central location. There’s on-site dining, a bar, a comfortable lobby, and a gym. Plus, rooms have great views because they’re located on higher floors—which also lets you escape the noise for a quiet stay.
Club Quarters Hotel Faneuil Hall (Downtown)

Club Quarters Hotels is a boutique chain with properties in the US and UK—keep them on your radar if you often find yourself looking for affordable hotels with an upscale feel. Club Quarters Hotel Faneuil Hall is renowned for its exceptional service, along with its central location. Pets stay for free, too. Rooms are small, clean, quiet, and come with great desks, in case you need to get a little work done.
Staypineapple (South End)

Who says affordable hotels in Boston can’t also be boutique gems? This South End boutique is known for its attentive staff and walkable location. But the interior is also a treat thanks to its unique décor and bright color accents. From the bar to the staircase to the lobby, it’s a feast for the eyes.
Homewood Suites by Hilton (Seaport)

Hilton members, assemble! This Homewood Suites property has an unbeatable location if you want to stay by the harbor. Though rooms are a bit basic, they’re reasonably priced. There are other perks, too, including an indoor pool (a rare find) and a rooftop terrace.
The Revolution Hotel (South End)

Incredibly stylish and surprisingly affordable, The Revolution Hotel is a designer’s dream. The interior lounge and business center ooze style, along with the unique rooms. There’s a coffee shop on the premises and a game room with analog favorites like Monopoly. Just know that standard rooms don’t have en-suite bathrooms—you share them.
The Dagny (Waterfront)

The Dagny is a four-star hotel that leans into the luxury category—but their room rates are surprisingly reasonable, especially for standard rooms. The interiors aren’t anything to write home about, but The Dagny’s communal spaces are stunning. The reading nook, restaurant, and terrace are worth spending a few hours at. As a perk, they offer pet-friendly amenities.
