Ultimate List Of Cabins To Rent In Winter

    Alaina Strollo
    Updated: September 05, 2022

There’s just something about a good old-fashioned vacation in the woods. Some of us are drawn to a log cabin vacation because of the unparalleled mountain views during the day and the cozy conversations by the fireside in the evenings. Others love the convenient access to the slopes and other winter fun. No matter your preference, there’s a dreamy Airbnb or Vrbo homestay for you.

    Videos by TravelAwaits

After researching dozens of log cabins in the U.S. and Canada, we compiled a list of 27 of our absolute favorites. We’re sure one will fit the bill for the winter getaway of your dreams.

    West Coast

    Ashland Lodge

    Ashland, Oregon

Ashland Lodge has all the comfort and charm of a cabin but with over 3,000 square feet to explore. The interior of the two-story cabin has quaint and authentic wood features throughout. The private pond and impressive patio are two bonus perks.

One of our fave vacation places ever (and I find it my life calling to find the best ones). A beautiful, large, cabin retreat amidst the woods complete with deer, kids capturing frogs/lizards/etc. we loved the home and the area (went zip lining at crater lake, rented boat at Lake of the Woods, jet boated the rogue river, kayaked in the property looks, fishes, etc!). Our kids are 4-10 and all of us can’t wait to return to Red’s cabin! One of the best sets of days ever
Beautiful home and love the location. My only issue is that are no window coverings upstairs in the bedrooms or in the downstairs living areas. It makes you feel your in a fish bowl at night. Plus, without the window coverings in the kids rooms they wake up much earlier than I’d like while on vacation. Lol!
We loved staying at this property. The home was huge and beautiful. It was equipped with everything we could possibly need. The kitchen table seated 12 and it has a huge island for cooking, serving, etc. We loved playing in our own private lake right out the back door, getting on hiking trails, playing bocci ball, and using the beautiful firepit every night. We loved spotting deer walking by every day. We loved the back porch with the walls that could be opened or closed and the huge outdoor fireplace, which we used every night to keep us warm as we played dominoes. We will definitely be back and recommend this property to everyone. The best part was that there was no TV and very little cell service so we were all forced to play together and talk. With teenagers this could be a problem, but ours didn’t seem to mind it at all!
This place was an amazing find! We had a group of about 9 high school friends all come to meet up and hang out for an extended weekend. The surrounding area is beautiful, the big open rooms great for board games and general hanging out, and the outdoor fireplace was super awesome. Also we really enjoyed not having wifi at the cabin! Sounds weird right? But it was a great way to enforce getting disconnected from the everyday routine. Definitely planning to stay here again!
Stay was great. A few things to know – 1) there is a property manager to answer all questions but you don’t get his context number until the day before so it’s very confusing to get any answers from VRBO or evolve because neither of them know.2) the bunk bed room had no heat so was freezing in the winter and also had no bedding.3) the wood was not chopped enough to start a fire so we had to use an axe to chop our own wood. And one small recommendation to the host to add more advice about where to go locally to enjoy the surroundings. There was no internet to look anything up, so we had to rely on the welcome book which was very vague and sparse. All in all it was a gorgeous house and we would definitely stay there again.

We were a group of friends from Los Angeles in our 60s and 70s, and rented this big, beautiful, mountain house during late September. It is across the street from the lake. The neighborhood is lovely and very quiet. We had fun playing ping pong and pool in the game room. We never made it downstairs to the immense TV, sectional sofa and game table. (We were already entertained with the game room and the plethora of smart TVs throughout the house.)The kitchen is large and well stocked. There were so many lovely places in and around the house – fire pit patio with seating, balconies, lots of comfortable seating, and TVs in most rooms! Sound didn’t carry in this house so there was a sense of privacy with each bedroom. I truly recommend this rental. It was so nice to walk the dog around the neighborhood and wonderful to return to it.
Our group had a great trip, the property was beautiful and close to so much. The check in process was so easy, had very close lake access, great game room, and close to town. We had a great time, would definitely recommend!
We loved the house. We had my two daughters and their families join my wife and me for a summer trip. The house is fully stocked and located close to Hollaways Marina, where we rented a pontoon boat for two hours. We enjoyed the family activities at nearby Alpine Meadows and the Big Bear Zoo. The house has a great game room and plenty of room to spread out for large families. The only two issues were the spider webs on the outside of the property, which took me a little work cleaning up. That would have freaked out my daughters so I had to step up and clean them off, especially the patio areas. The outdoor BBQ and fire pit area was also great for S’Mores. and for our family BBQ’s. We didn’t get to use the kayaks or electric bikes but they looked great too.I’m still waiting for my cleaning deposit but I expect that is a VRBO issue and not the owner.Great house, great owner, and we plan to go back.Frank Haffner
This house was amazing. We’ve stayed at several VRBO properties and several in Big Bear with the same group every year. Everyone agrees that this has been the best one yet. The home really has everything you need. The kids ages 3-13 loves the game room. My husband and a few of his buddies loved being walking distance to the lake to go fishing. Plenty of bedrooms and beds for everyone. And the beds and pillows… so soft and comfortable in every room!!! We had such a great time. The house is clean and welcoming from the minute you open the door. Thank you, Karen, for letting us stay in your beautiful home. We will be back!!!
Plenty of room and lots of games. Kayaks were great. Kids 6-11 years had lots of fun.

We had wonderful time as family. Our host Chris was very helpful. We will definitely return!
The house is amazing and so well stocked. Never have I had a place with so many thoughtful touches. I really want to keep this gem to myself so it isn’t booked when we are able to return but that isn’t fair to Chris. The location is perfect and the neighborhood is quiet. Got to have a National Geographic moment one morning as a bear came cruising between the houses and did his back scratching on a tree out back. The hot tub is very well maintained just like the house. I can’t say enough good things about the house, location, and host!! Chris responds in record time & is so accommodating! Plus he goes above and beyond. Love this place and are working on returning again. The beach is fantastic and just a short 3 block walk from the house. Awesome time in Tahoe!!!
We had a wonderful weeklong stay at this property. The location was chef’s kiss with a 3 minute walk to the lake where you could rent kayaks and paddle boards. Mini golf and Gar Woods (Wet Woodies) is just a very short walk! My kids loved the jacuzzi. Chris (the owner) was extremely attentive and responsive when I reached out to him. The house was fully equipped with literally anything you might need to cook a nice meal! Perfect house for two families with kids as the house has two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. Overall it was a wonderful stay!
This house was close to everything we wanted to do in Tahoe, it was comfortable and well stocked (grill, hot tub, etc.), and Chris was extremely responsive to all the little questions we had. We’d definitely stay here again!
The house was exactly as advertised. Great location and Owner was very responsive. We will definitely visit this property again.

Ponderosa treehouse at Snow Bear Chalets was the perfect place for our family. My husband and I enjoyed privacy sleeping on the main level and the kids LOVED the loft with a king, 2 twins, and the most amazing turret ever! This turret has something like 1000 fiber-optic stars forming twinkle-lit constellations on the ceiling- amazing! Our kids loved it!The kitchen was perfect and fully stocked for the two nights we cooked at “home”. The mountain views were breathtaking, the hiking was fantastic, the beds were oh so comfy and the overall ambiance of the treehouse created such a great memory for our family. We’re already looking at dates to return. Thank you Snow Bear Chalets for building such an amazing luxury treehouse! My recommendation- book this now! You’ll be so happy that you did!
We loved our summer stay at Ponderosa. Our 7 and 4 year old were delighted to stay in a treehouse and to have a turret to enjoy just to themselves. The amenities were spot on and everything was very comfortable. Whitefish is a fun little town and Glacier National Park is gorgeous!
Very unique amazing experience! Real tree house, but with all the conveniences of a home. Right in the slopes. Property manager is very responsive and accommodating; they even had a Christmas tree and stockings there for us for the holidays! Very clean! Strongly recommend!
We had a wonderful time in ponderosa! It was even more beautiful than in the pictures online. The view was spectacular and skiing right from the treehouse was so easy. The beds were so comfortable and the place was stocked with everything needed. This was the best rental we have ever stayed in! We definately want to come back. The skiing conditions were amazing!!
We had an amazing time at Snow Bear Chalets. Great accommodations!

    Stay was great
The cabin was cozy and well-appointed for staying in and cooking or relaxing by the fire. It was also an easy walk to town. Perfect for our small group of friends to enjoy some skiing, relaxing, and exploring the local area. Highly recommended!

It was a great home base for our Jackson Hole adventures. Great location for walking around Jackson.
Rating Details:The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless.I was more than happy with the location.I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.Reviewer Comments:One of the most fully appointed houses we have ever visited. We loved the authentic old cabin logs and furnishings. Great location in town near shops and restaurants. The living area was perfect for entertaining a group of our daughters friends from Jackson. The informal log cabin was perfect for our family vacation.
Rating Details:The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless.I was very happy with the location.I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.Reviewer Comments:We took family trip to Jackson, eight total, Dad and Mom, three daughters age 25-30 and their partners. We had great week, although Jackson was between high seasons of skiing and summer, so many summer activities (horseback riding, whitewater rafting, Jenny Lake boat) not available. However, National Park was almost empty, saw lots of wildlife, and still kept busy. We rented Elks bowling Lanes one night and enjoyed that. The property we stayed at (The Cabin) was outstanding. Roomy, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and well appointed. And very convenient to walking or driving downtown or to grocery store.

This mountain cabin is absolute perfection. The views are so beautiful, especially from the hot tub! And for those of you that enjoy cooking, the kitchen is beyond well stocked. Every detail has been thought through at this comfortable and cozy home. (The only thing I’d suggest adding are makeup mirrors in the bathrooms. The lighting isn’t very good for putting one’s face on.) The beds are very, very comfortable, and there are fans and small heaters available if needed. We had an issue with an appliance and the Host responded immediately and kept in touch every step of the way, which we really appreciated.I booked this property to celebrate my birthday with some girlfriends and every one of us hopes to return.
The house was perfect for our group of 9- we loved morning on the porch, using the hot tub, And enjoying the views. Beds were comfortable, everything was in great condition, and we would definitely stay again!
Family getaway weekend. The house was beautiful and just as advertised. Great mountain house with beautiful views quiet neighborhood and there was even a moose at the end of the driveway when we arrived.
This was a fabulous place to stay for large family group. Plenty of space to spread out. Beautiful view, hot tub to die for, well stocked kitchen, lots of fresh linens, clean and updated interior. Moose right outside too! Easy five mins into town. This is a top notch listing.
Good property. Comfortable stay. Rules and safety checks for a malfunctioning garage door sensor set back the good vibes since we had to cut our day trip short to help out the property manager confirm all was well. All in all, cozy little spot. Well equipped.

We reserved the cabin for the weekend to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was perfect! We had 4 different families staying there and had plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need to cook a family meal. We all loved watching the fog roll in on the lake. The fishing off the dock was great and we were able to catch our limit daily. The hot tub was relaxing and toast and the kayaks provided were fun to test out! The cabin is a short drive to the grocery store. We also were able to visit the fish hatchery and the top of the rocks golf cart tour, both are highly recommended. We will for sure visit Branson again and would love to stay at the same place. We all agreed while sitting around the fire pit it was the nicest place we had stayed.
Everything was as expected.. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! However there were dirty wet dishes in cabinets, outside trash was almost full, hair and dirt in master bathroom cabinets and a shopping bag full of baby clothes left from previous people that stayed. Just these oversights make me wonder if other things were overlooked.
Perfect home with everything you could ever need! We celebrated my dad’s 75th birthday with 10 guests in the and 3 additional family members that came over every day and we had plenty of space to spread our! There are more beds then advertised. There are 2 twin beds in one of the mester rooms! I will say there isn’t any swimming at the dock. The water is freezing year round and the currents are too strong. Not a big deal for us but wanted everyone to be aware. The home is meticulously kept up and perfect for a big family gathering!
    Very good overall.
This property is BEAUTIFUL!! So relaxing! Only a few things I would give suggestion on is they did not keep up stock on items that was supposed to be stocked by them, like shampoo/conditioner, shower gel etc.. there are some tiles that are broken. And the patio outdoors needs a good power wash. But other than those minor things, we LOVED it!!! Again, just BEAUTIFUL!

We loved our stay here! My 6YO and 3YO played outside so much and had so much fun on the see-saw airplane. Of course my 6YO also loved the retro game table too. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were a great setup for our small kids. Loved that they provided a pack n play and high chair as we have an 18MO as well. Best of all…step stools! Seems like such a small thing but it’s a big deal as a parent of little kids. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking gear and appliances. We would definitely recommend this cabin to others!
This place was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the high ceilings and the windows were stunning. The rooms were decorated immaculate. They were roomy, comfortable and charming. The outside living space was perfect.
This was our first trip to the Broken Bow area, and the cabin was perfect for our family of four. The attention to detail with the amenities was above and beyond. The owners gave great recommendations for area activities, dining, etc. The indoor and outdoor spaces were very comfortable and our kids loved the arcade & outdoor play areas. The owners provided everything we needed for a great family getaway. We can’t wait to come back!
We had the best time at this house. You got everything you can possibly need and more. Esther was very nice and quick to respond!

We spent 4 days and 3 nights at the blue bungalow and frankly it wasn’t enough! The house was the perfect size for my family and the private pool was just perfect for us! The location is perfect as the connecting road leads straight to the beach, we rented a golf cart which made beach trips much easier and enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back! The host Gretchen was amazing and always available for any requests we had. Don’t hesitate to book your stay at the Blue Bungalow!
The Blue Bungalow is a quiet, clean, spacious and calming place. It is very near the beach and close to all the lovely restaurants and bars of the area. But you can’t hear the noise of the streets in the Bungalow. The whole place made us feel at ease. Gretchen was very nice, easy to talk to and very friendly when she welcomed us. I would definitely come again!
The house was comfortable, quiet and exactly what we needed to relax! Location was perfect – only a few blocks from the beach. We had a small issue with a chirping fire alarm but the owner was quick to respond and it was resolved very quickly. We will definitely be going back! Very impressed!
Would definitely stay here again! Condo was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Location is perfect and the pool is a huge, huge plus!
House was amazing – the three bedroom were comfortable and just the right size. Floor plan worked great for our group of 4. Everything was clean and all the amenities were better than expected. The outdoor space was great. The pool was the right size, enough to cool off from the heat. The beach was easily accessible and just a short golf cart ride away. Shopping and restaurants were close and we had a great trip.

The house was nice and we enjoyed our stay. The problem is Absolute Charm. We spent a good amount of time cleaning up the house before our checkout time. An hour later I get an email that an extra fee has been charged to credit card on file. We requested more details as to why the charge had been assessed. That’s when things got strange. 45 minutes after our request, we got an email with photos attached. The property managers had actually taken the time to pull trash out, place it various places around the house, to make it look like we left the house in bad shape. I told them the photos had been doctored, but they stood by their claim and their charge. They’ll probably reply to this review and refute my story, but don’t trust these people. Look at their yelp reviews. They have a pattern of this behavior.
This property is ideal for a short break if you do need to be in the centre of town. Easy access to local wineries yet away from the main road. Beautifully decorated although we didn’t find the beds to our liking. Also, the hot tub was not functioning and we were unable to get this remedied before we checked out. This, along with the pool, had been a major factor in choosing this property so it was very disappointing. Also, the automatic gate to the property did not appear to be working. Whilst this is a minor thing, it may indicate a lack of oversight from the management company. All in all, though, a lovely property to get away from things yet still be close to shops, wineries and other attractions.
We’ve stayed at this site several times, but this is the first time we’ve seen the new pool. I love the pool!! It was very refreshing to come back to in the middle of July. The location is perfect for visiting all the sites.
This rental was perfect and mostly what we expected! The only complaints I had were the beds upstairs were very noisy and uncomfortable. We were only left 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom and 4 trash bags which wasn’t near enough for 6 of us. Overall the place was great and we had a wonderful time and would stay here again!
This was a perfect getaway spot for me and my husband! Overall the house was lovely. It was clean, uncluttered and aesthetically pleasing. But, the cleaning crew could have done a better job sweeping the floor. The house was secluded and close to pastures with cattle and vineyards which was serene and relaxing. So, expect the flys that go along with farm animals. We would definately stay there again!

We had 20 adults there for a college reunion trip. The good: the views were incredible, most rooms were very spacious and had their own private bathroom, many different indoor games to play on a rainy day, amazing kitchen when cooking for a large group, nice fire pit, beds were comfortable, bathrooms were spacious, no hot water shortage, wrap around deck, a ton of kitchen appliances and dishes, multiple fridges, very fun theatre room, high ceilings, log cabin constructionThe not so good: some small issues with cleanliness, unable to connect your own device to the outdoor speakers, doors automatically lock behind you but the door code only worked on the front door keypad for us, Wi-Fi was very slow in most areas of the home (could have been the number of guests), hot tubs had an unpleasant smell after the first time we used them (may just need cleaned/shocked), the theatre room had the option to utilize Amazon video, Netflix, etc. but every time we started a program it crashed and popped up saying that the video source had been lost.Overall we had a great stay, the hosts were very nice and communicated instantly every time I reached out to them. Only a few hiccups.
This was by far the most incredible vacation rental we have EVER had. My wife and I booked the Luxe Bear Lodge to hold our reception for our Gatlinburg wedding. Words can’t describe how wonderful this cabin is!! Our entire family was lost for words at the beauty of this place. We were so blessed to have been able to hold our special night here and have nothing but resounding praise for both the staff and the property!

The only thing better than the house, location, fireplace and falling asleep to the sound of the stream was the attentiveness of our Host, Angelo. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a great one which it was. I look forward to going back in the Spring and enjoying another relaxing week. Thank you Angelo!!!
My daughter and I had a wonderful time. Angelo was very attentive and kept in communication with us to make sure we had everything we needed. The property is very comfortable and is fully stocked with everything we needed. The view is calming from the back yard and deck listening to the water from the creek. We definitely want to return!!!
Wonderful Catskills base for quiet vacation
My family and I spend 5 days in this cottage and it was delightful. The stream in the backyard was the best part of the whole vacation for my daughter and dog- they skipped around and splashed all day. 13/10, highly recommend.
The house couldn’t have been more wonderful and Angelo was an absolutely perfect host. Already picking dates for our return. Please note: the stream in the backyard and the view from the bedroom window should be on the cover of a Catskills tourism brochure.

We stayed for a girls weekend and had a great time. Plenty of space for everyone but coziness enough we could all spend time together
Beautifully designed space tucked in the Plymouth mountainside. Magical sunrise view. We had a wonderful weekend!
We stayed at the Arched Chalet with a group of girlfriends to celebrate a bachelorette party. The bride wanted a low key New England getaway and this home did not disappoint. The views were breathtaking, the location was perfect, and there was plenty of room for us all to sleep and lounge comfortably. Can’t wait to stay again.
Our stay at the Arched Chalet was so restful. Located on what once was a ski trail, the mountain view was beautiful! Add the sunrise and it was spectacular! The chalet was recently done over with a boho feel that was so chic and comfortable. There was plants of room for us with three floors of living space. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook a nice family meal. There were seats for babies and toys for children to play with. The chalet itself is conveniently located between Killington and Okemo and was about 30 minutes to the quaint New England town of Woodstock VT. We enjoyed our stay very much!
My husband and I desperately needed a weekend away. We were fortunate enough to be able to book the Arched Chalet for a weekend in late July. We absolutely loved the entire experience. Jordan was very communicative from start to finish. Her home is tastefully decorated, cozy and inviting. The Plymouth area is gorgeous this time of year and there was so much (or so little) to do! If you are looking for a slice of peace, like we were, this is definitely the place to stay! We look forward to our next stay at the Arched Chalet!

This property does NOT disappoint! Seven guys on a golfing weekend, and no complaints from a bunch of nit-picking middle-aged guys! The log cabin is very impressive and luxurious; the kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful! Thank you to the property owner for your friendliness and for the ease of check-in. We will stay here again if we decide to go to Harrison Hot Springs again!
This log house is ideal for family gatherings…it’s a beautiful house with lots of space for 12 people…..the air hockey table upstairs was a big hit with our younger members. Ideal location…tucked away 1 1/2 blocks from Harrison village it provides you with peace and quiet and a soothing view of the Miami River….but it’s a short stroll if you want to enjoy all the village has to offer. The kitchen has high end appliances and the 2 bathrooms are luxurious…Thanks Danny….we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Log Escape.
We just returned from a 5 night stay at this amazing property. It is a beautiful house and is situated in a perfect location. It is a very short walk to the lake, no car/parking required which is a huge bonus. The property is close to the village, restaurants, coffee and gift shops. There is a large, fenced garden which was perfect for our small grandchildren to play in at the end of our ‘beach’ days. Lots of outdoor seating for relaxing or dining. The kitchen and laundry facilities are superb. Air conditioned, extremely spacious, and comfortable. The owner, Danny, was very quick to respond to any questions I had before and during the trip. Very helpful and friendly. Would 100% stay again.
We had an amazing stay at the Log Escape home – the pictures don’t do it justice!!!Booking, arrival, and preparation were expertly handled (Danny even knew how many people we needed seating for and added an addition to the dinning table for us). It was a tailored experience with even the temperature and lock settings selected just for our group. There is signage to help with everything from accessing wifi to making coffee which was helpful and saved time. The home itself is stunning, clean, and perfect for a large family (we had 7 adults and 5 kids). The view of the mountains and river when you look from the main windows is gorgeous. The decks are perfect for enjoying the view and very comfortable. The backyard is massive and great for the kids to run around. Bathrooms are beautiful. Kitchen is massive and well stocked with equipment. The home is also in a perfect location. Tucked away from main roads, but a two minute walk into the main area of Harrison (and Rocky Mountain ice cream!). We were able to stroll to and from the lake with ease. We can’t wait to come back next year. Thank you Danny for hosting our much-loved family vacation!!!
My family of 6 adults and 2 small children just returned from our vacation at ‘The Log Escape’ at Harrison Hot springs. I don’t know what else to say except this warm and welcoming log home is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views of the mountains, river and surrounding landscape. Located close to all things Harrison we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Danny was the consummate host making sure everything was exactly what we needed! We highly recommend staying here, we only wish we’d had more time!
