Los Angeles can be a nightmare to navigate for two reasons. First, it’s massive urban sprawl. Second, it’s notorious traffic.

Getting around isn’t easy. Worse, you’ll need to get around often to see the city’s top sites. From film studio tours to trendy social clubs to hard-to-find foodie and mixology enclaves, Los Angeles has an overwhelming number of activities.
If you only have a few days to visit, you might feel more exhausted than rejuvenated when you head home. I have one suggestion: optimize your time in the City of Angels by staying close to the beach. That way, you’ll have accessible downtime at your fingertips—and a ticket to catching some of the country’s top sunsets from the sand.
Here are some of the best Airbnbs close to the beach in Los Angeles. (If you’re looking for style instead of proximity to the beach, start with this list of cool Airbnbs instead.) I’ve focused my suggestions on popular beach areas, including Playa del Rey, Redondo Beach, and Hermosa Beach. (Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach are located side by side—they’re almost identical areas.)

Private Entry Coastal Suite

If you don’t mind a slightly oddball setup, this quirky Airbnb is perfect for you. It’s got a historic Tudor-style décor with a large sleigh bed in the corner and a pool table in the middle of the studio setup. There’s art, antiques, and a small patio that makes this third-floor attic setup feel a little like a penthouse.
Luxury Studio

If you prefer a more modern, bright studio, this beautifully simple setup will do. You’re just seven minutes from the beach on foot, but also have tons of Playa del Rey stops around you, from cafes to restaurants. This studio also has a fantastic work setup, making it great for digital nomads and travelers who want to stay for a while.
The Tranquil Perch

This gorgeous mid-century home comes with everything a traveler could hope for. There’s the beachy, modernist vibes to start with, followed by the proximity of the beach and other Playa del Rey hotspots. Out back, you even have a small barbecue setup with furniture, perfect for kicking back under the California sun. Parking is also included.

Privage Bungalow by the Beach

The beach and the boardwalk are just a few blocks away. This is a small studio setup with a functional kitchenette and a private bathroom. That’s about all you’ll get at this rental aside from its stellar location. But it’s perfectly set up and comfortable, meaning you won’t mind missing out on a large, spacious rental, especially if you plan to maximize your time outdoors.
Broadway 18 Studio

This lovely studio is part of a property that is owned and run by locals, not a luxury property management group. You can expect a clean, simple setup that comes with a five-minute walk to Redondo Beach, along with a five-minute walk to the bus stop. Just make sure you read the expectations for this spot—they have a pretty long but basic list of house rules to check out. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, but definitely give it a look.
Coastal Bungalow

This is a historic bungalow that transports you back to the Golden Age of Hollywood. It’s been fully renovated and refurbished, giving you a modern setup. The interior is warm, cozy, and the property is just a few blocks from the beach. Out back is a small grill and dining setup. You can also sleep four using a pullout in the living room.

Coastal Serenity Escape

Looking for beach views? This studio rental comes with a balcony overlooking the sand. It’s a very basic (and gray) setup that lets you sleep up to four with a pullout in the living room. It comes with other perks, too, like a very professional toiletry and kitchen setup with all the amenities you could need. Beach views aside, you also have access to an outdoor pool.
Upper Ocean Beach View Bungalow

This new rental comes with fantastic beach views from a corner window—and it’s got a sitting area where you can treat yourself to those sunset views. Aside from that, this bungalow-style unit has a fantastic one-bedroom setup that’s located right in the heart of Hermosa Beach. Once again, you can sleep up to four here using a pullout sofa in the living room.
Pier Ave Apartment

Enjoy a private parking garage unit at this fantastic rental, located right in the action. You’re on Pier Avenue, putting you close to Hermosa Beach’s best restaurants, boutiques, and bars. You also have a shared courtyard to enjoy when you want some fresh air.
