With its ample sunshine, semi-tropical Gulf beaches, and walkable downtown area, St. Petersburg is a destination thousands return to year after year.

It’s an especially attractive place for couples. Thanks to ‘the Burg’s’ relaxed pace of life, couples can sink into a calming way of life during their stay. Not only are there over 30 miles of beach to wander down, but they also offer some of the country’s most vibrant sunsets.
Whether you’re in the mood for culture, people watching, kayaking, gastronomy, art galleries, or a dance class, there’s something to do in St. Petersburg. (Beach drumming on Treasure Island, anyone?) If not, you also have Tampa, just a short drive inland. You can even take the ferry if you’re in the mood for a little adventure.
But where should you stay in St. Petersburg if you want to go all-in on the romance? While the city has plenty of great hotels, you might want a private rental where you can enjoy total privacy. Below, I’ve divided my recommendations based on platform: Airbnb or VRBO.
Vrbos & Airbnbs in St. Petersburg great for couples
Midcentury downtown apartment

Inspired by Palm Springs, this bright and eclectic rental is filled with midcentury modern finishes. There’s a lovely, pink-tiled bathroom, along with a small workspace and a courtyard. The courtyard comes with colorful lighting, as well, and the bedroom has a king for added comfort.
Boutique stay near the Bay

Located in St. Petersburg’s historic Old Northeast area, this rental offers a charming blend of historic, bohemian, and organic notes. It’s simple, relaxing, and spa-like—but if you prefer Florida’s more traditional beach décor, it might not be a great fit. Couples will enjoy the large king bed in the bedroom, along with the walkability of this rental. It’s in one of St. Pete’s most walkable areas.
Sunshine Cottage

This stylish, modern rental is set inside a charming cottage that just celebrated its centennial. It’s a classic Florida Cracker cottage, located right in the center of St. Petersburg. That makes it ideal for couples who like to be in the action—and those who appreciate classic architecture and original wood floors. Couples will enjoy the large, comfortable porch, but know that the bedroom only fits a queen-sized mattress.
Great views of Boca Ciega Bay

Stay at one of the most popular condo buildings in St. Petersburg. You can find more than a few rentals available at this location, which offers a waterfront pool and jacuzzi, plus excellent views of Boca Ciega Bay. I like this one-bedroom for its classic nautical design and top-notch views from an upper floor.
Waterfront condo with amenities

Check out another popular condo, located on Coquina Key South with panoramic water views. The resort-style setup gives you access to basketball, shuffleboard, pickleball, beach volleyball, two pools, and a jacuzzi. There’s even a yacht club. Couples will enjoy the comfy queen-sized mattress, along with the furnished patio where you can eat your meals with bayou views.
Waterfront resort-style condo

Here’s another rental in the same facility as the last, giving you access to the same long list of amenities. The main difference between the two is the décor; this rental is a bit more upscale and austere, but comes with the same queen-sized bed setup.
Rental with private hot tub

If you’re looking for quality downtime in a hot tub, this apartment has a swanky setup that you’ll want to enjoy every night. There’s also a king-sized mattress in the bedroom for added comfort. The hot tub is located in a private courtyard, which also has a gas grill. This is also a pet-friendly unit, in case you’re traveling with Fido.
Cozy apartment near Vinoy Beach

This gorgeous studio puts you two blocks from Vinoy Beach in its historic North East district, giving you both charm and beach access. The rental is also beach-themed, with a vintage-style tiled bathroom and a small yard out back. Just know that there isn’t a full kitchen here—just a functional kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, coffee-maker, and mini-fridge.
The Boho (Gulfport)

If you’re okay staying in the St. Petersburg area, this Gulfport rental has a solid location close to St. Pete’s Beach and Gulfport’s top restaurants and nightlife. There’s also a second bedroom, in case you have guests for part of your stay. Both bedrooms have king-sized mattresses. There’s also an adorable courtyard out back with a BBQ grill and a large table. Lastly, the rental comes with two bicycles, letting you and your loved one pedal into the sunset whenever the mood strikes.
La Barra #101.5 (Gulfport)

Located right on St. Pete Beach and with a hot tub hidden in a private patio, this Gulfport rental is a beach-lover’s dream. (Seriously—the beach is only 350 feet away.) The condo’s interior is brightly decorated with a fresh, organic feel, and the bedroom has a comfortable king-sized mattress. As a perk, there’s even a second patio located on the top floor, giving you ample outdoor space.
The Sand Dollar (Gulfport)

Love to feel tucked away in nature? This bungalow is surrounded by greenery and has a relaxing, organic atmosphere. The bedroom comes with a king-sized mattress, but the real perk is the outdoor patio. It’s fenced in, shaded, and furnished, letting you enjoy the great outdoors between swimming sessions at the beach.
