The sunny Spanish island of Majorca is part of the Balearic Islands, a small collection of Spanish islands off the east coast of mainland Spain. Its laid-back character and beautiful coastline make it the perfect destination for anyone looking for Spanish island life with a choice of luxury and boutique hotels, resorts, and villas.
I’ve visited Majorca many times and I’ve stayed in some incredible places, in former fishing villages (some still working fishing villages), right by the sea, and in the stunning capital of Palma. I’ve picked six of the best places to stay on Majorca — hotels, resorts, and villas. Some I’ve stayed at myself and some are on my wish list.
1. Secrets Mallorca Villamil Resort & Spa
Peguera
A beachfront hotel with views out to sea and a restaurant with views perfect for watching the Sun go down, Secrets Mallorca Villamil Resort & Spa is ideally positioned with every amenity you can hope for, and you never need to leave the resort if you don’t want to. Grab a table on the terrace for dinner and dine by the waves, and book a poolside suite for luxury. Seaview rooms are available on request, which give you an uninterrupted view of the bay. You can choose the all-inclusive option or a simple bed and breakfast. Book ahead if you want to use the spa for a treatment, as it does get busy.
Dining And Drinks
The hotel has five restaurants with a sushi bar, a snack bar, and four bars, including a pool bar, so you’ll never tire of trying out different venues. Sit out on the terrace in Olio restaurant for lunch and enjoy Mediterranean snacks and watch the sunset at the seaside grill for dinner.
2. Iberostar Selection Albufera Park
Playa De Muro
If you’re traveling with the grandkids, or with a group, Iberostar Selection Albufera Park is the perfect place to stay on Mallorca. The hotel is geared towards families, and though it’s still a great place to stay if you’re a couple, be aware there’s a lot going on and it’s a busy family-friendly place. It’s located close to the beach and there are seven pools in total, so it’s always possible to find a quiet corner if that’s what you want. The complex is surrounded by the Albufera Nature Reserve, which is a very peaceful place for a wander.
Dining And Drinks
The family focus of this hotel does show in its lack of bars. Although, it does have a nice café and an ice cream parlor. Where it really shines, for me, is in its country-themed restaurants. I prefer to eat local cuisine wherever I am, so I loved that it has a Spanish restaurant. But, unusually, it also has Greek and Mexican restaurants.
3. Villa Canya Vera
Pollensa
Set in beautiful countryside, inland a little from the popular northern resort of Alcudia, Villa Canya Vera sleeps eight people in four bedrooms and has its own private pool. It’s a great choice for a relaxing get-away-from-it-all trip and there’s plenty of space, so it’s ideal for a family break or to visit with friends. It is quite cut off though, so unless you plan on spending all your time on the sun-loungers by the pool, you’ll need a car. It’s a 10-minute drive to the nearest town of Pollensa, which is a lovely town of small streets, boutique shops, and restaurants.
Location
It’s an hour from Palma airport, but to be fair, nowhere on the island is too far from the airport. This isn’t a beachside villa and it suits a more quiet and relaxed vacation. The villa is surrounded by beautiful countryside, but you do have neighbors pretty close by, so you’re not completely cut off. The port destination of Alcudia is 13 kilometers (8 miles) away and definitely worth a visit.
4. Ikos Porto Petro
Porto Petro
Set in a beautifully secluded bay, close to an old traditional fishing village, Ikos Porto Petro is a brand-new hotel. At the time of writing this, there’s still some work to do, mostly exterior landscaping, but it looks set to be a chic and modern hotel in a spectacular location. Set right on the beach in a small cove, the hotel has five pools and five restaurants. It feels like an adults-only hotel, though families are welcome, and the feel of the design is that of melding the outdoors with the indoors, which it does very well. There will be a theater, opening August 2023, where evening entertainment will be held, and there are also quiet bar areas and terrace seating.
Dining And Drinks
The hotel has an impressive six bars, including a pool bar and an ice cream bar. The Deluxe bar is reserved for guests staying in Deluxe Suites and is very private, while the Porto Petro Bar is a relaxed bar where you can pull up a stool and chat with other guests. There are also six restaurants, including Spanish, Italian, and Asian restaurants. Or, for something more casual, turn up at the food hall any time and help yourself to the buffet.
5. Finca Palma
Palma
Perfect for a big family gathering, a trip with friends, or just for lots of space, Finca Palma Villa sleeps up to 12 people. It’s a very traditional Spanish villa decorated in an authentic way. I love the rustic vibe and old Spanish charm it has, but if you’re looking for ultra-modern décor and facilities, this isn’t it. This is a place to unwind and immerse yourself in Spanish culture. It looks and feels a bit like a movie set, and it’s retained all of its original character. Originally a Majorcan manor house, this is a historic 300-year-old building just 15 minutes from the capital city of Palma. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to hop off the plane and get straight to their accommodation.
Location
It’s close to the city of Palma, which I love, so there’s plenty to see and do in the area, but you will need a car to get around. It’s a 5-minute drive to the nearest supermarket, which you can walk to if you want some exercise. It’s also close to the island’s biggest shopping mall, just a 7-minute drive away. Here, you’ll have everything you need nearby while at the same time being removed from the action in a quiet and secluded area.
6. Zafiro Palace Andratx
Camp De Mar
Zafiro Palace Andratx is a large hotel with sea views just a short walk from the harbor town of Puerto de Andratx. It’s set right next to a golf course, ideal for anyone who likes to play a few rounds. There’s an impressive selection of pools, including a sky pool. Though a little confusing, as it’s not an adults-only hotel, it is stated that the pools are designed for adults only. There are some child-friendly aspects of the hotel, such as a small play area, but on the whole, it does feel very adult-orientated. I’m happy with this, as I love being able to get away to a luxury resort and have quiet now and then! Suites with private pools are available, which look very peaceful and relaxing.
Dining And Drinks
The hotel has five restaurants, including a sushi restaurant, a steakhouse, and a buffet. The signature restaurant and the Italian restaurant both have terrace seating with stunning views. Suites have a “floating breakfast” option for the private pools, so you can graze on your breakfast tray in the water. There’s a lounge bar, a pool bar, and a drink truck, which is a lovely cute truck bar. There’s also a healthy truck that serves fresh fruit, smoothies, and healthy snacks.
