10 Marvelous Crested Butte Vacation Rentals In The Mountains

    William Stupp
    September 17, 2022

Colorado is dotted with lovely towns from which to take in the splendor of the Rocky Mountains. Though each season brings with it different sources of wonder and memorable activities, the high country is an excellent destination year-round. And when it comes to beauty and fun, few places match the quiet town of Crested Butte.

    Videos by TravelAwaits

Skiers love the Butte for its excellent snow and dearth of crowds (because it’s much further from the state’s population centers, much fewer people make it up). However you feel about skiing, you’ll enjoy the small resort town charm, luxurious spas, decadent restaurants, and wealth of things to do. Summer visitors will appreciate the miles upon miles of hiking and cycling trails (which are often the site of wondrous wildflower explosions), fishing, and a regular stream of festivals and events. In autumn, the mountains are seemingly set ablaze as yellow Aspen leaves glimmer in the sun (an underappreciated example of fall foliage seen only in the West).

And that leads back to winter and spring where the glorious snow speaks for itself.

To discover why knowledgeable skiers and those seeking quieter mountain scenery choose Crested Butte, book your trip today. What follows is a list of 10 Vrbo rentals in Crested Butte to help you find your way to a perfect holiday.

Grand Secluded Home Just Outside Town$2,411/nightly avg

An extraordinary home in an equally remarkable location, this large home — known by some as “The Ashram” — is a recipe for delight. Though a walk to town will take up merely 5 minutes of your time, the home feels like a world to itself. The 35-acre property includes a small-level clearing surrounded by steep mountain slopes. About 10 minutes from the ski area, the home also offers easy access to hundreds of miles of hiking trails. On top of that, summer visitors will enjoy angling for rainbow trout in the backyard pond. Even without speaking of the home’s interiors (they’re gorgeous), it should already be clear that this home is your ticket to an unforgettable mountain vacation.

    Amazing
The house was very nice and the views were great! Thanks!
We had a fantastic time at this property. Is one of the larger homes offered for rent in the valley and can easily accommodate 2 to 3 families. Our teenage boys love the media room and pool table and the views overlooking the town in Mount Crested Butte were amazing! The house sits on 35 acres so you’re on your own private Compound But close enough to walk to town in five minutes.
This property was truly amazing. The views are incredible with a 10 min walk to town(a little longer on the way up). The house was truly a kids dream. Our family of varying ages of children had the best time. There were so many games and things to keep the kids entertained. We enjoyed nightly dance parties on in the sunroom with the disco lights. Green lake trail head is minutes away from the house. The kitchen and bathrooms were well equipped. We had the best time! Thank you for having us!!
Experience was good, easy check in and out process. Issues that came up during stay were handled quickly. Would recommend to others and would stay again

Mountaintop Mansion On 52 Acres$1,050/nightly avg

Privacy, beauty, and luxury are the stuff that dream vacations are made of. All are to be found in generous portions at this magnificent home near Crested Butte. Walk around the property and you will find that the views range from grand to jaw-dropping. Given the exquisite furnishings, this is almost as true inside the home as it is without. The home’s decor is distinctly antique but by no means unfashionable. Beyond the usual mountain home accouterments, the house has a fabulous home theater, an arcade room, a telescope, and a notable collection of artwork. The town of Crested Butte is about 10 minutes down the road, the ski area a little further distant.

We enjoyed our stay overall, really a dream home, atop a mountain literally. A handful of us (14 in our group stay-grandparents, kids, grandkids) suffered with the altitude sickness sadly, remember you’re up close to 10,500 ft! There were places in town, down mountain Crested Butte for IV’s, hyperbolic oxygen chambers and even a place that let us rent an oxygen machine to have with us at the property, super helpful. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs, each with their own en suite which was great. The bathrooms could have been cleaner (dusty mirrors and not thorough floor cleanings but lovely nonetheless). 1 of the 3 was a bunkbed room which the kids loved and also the game room (pullout sofa) and movie room were big hits with them. The master bedroom is upstairs and is huge with massive bathroom, walk-in closet, fireplace and walkout to the back deck. (Sadly, our stay end of May/beginning of June had the deck completely covered with snow, ha!) The 2nd “bedroom” upstairs is more like a playroom off of the living room, the walls do not go to the ceiling and we were not able to put kids to sleep at all in that room-late nights/early mornings, everything could be heard. The kitchen is amazing, chef’s dream! Although, for groups with kids it would be great if more kid-friendly items were made available-highchair, booster seats, baby gates for the stairs (huge!). We ran out of dishwasher cleaner the last 2 days so maybe could be a bit more stocked for us larger groups. Unfortunately, the DVD player didn’t work so we were unable to utilize the vast library of movies available, much to the kids disappointment and the hot tub (which was a main selling point for us!) was broken our entire stay. We worked with Eric, on-site manager, with these issues and he was attentive but even after we’d all returned home I would have loved a final message offering a credit or discount on next stay, etc. but we heard nothing? I texted to inquire more and received no response. We’re a large group and don’t mind paying for premium properties. In our past experiences, when something that is advertised is missing or broken its common to credit something back, at least the cleaning fee? Overall a memorable stay in a magical mountain retrea!
My husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at this gorgeous vacation home. Our children and grandchildren joined us and the place was comfortable, large, and had every imaginable amenity. The views from the porch of the mountains would be hard to match. We took many hikes in the area and never really saw any of views that beat the one from the back porch. This is a perfect place to enjoy the best of Crested Butte with your friends and family.
Great house for a large groupBeautiful views and very comfortable
Breathtaking views, impressive cabin, and super fun arcade room. Thank you for sharing!
Beyond our expectations! Views from every angle and beautiful furnishings. A wonderful memory for my son’s wedding and much needed family time.

    Glamorous Living At Goldlink$836/nightly avg

There is sufficient reason to propose this luxurious Crested Butte rental be used as a demonstration of how a mountain home ought to be. It has the right look (with unvarnished timber frames, wooden fixtures, big leather sofas), the right amenities (sauna, tubs in each full bathroom, a wood-burning fireplace), and, best of all, it’s in the right location (there are mountain views, you can ski to the front door, and the Goldlink lift is 200 yards away). The two king bedrooms are very well separated from the two queen rooms, so there is plenty of privacy. On top of all that, the home has two living rooms and even an office for those who need to get some work done in the fresh mountain air.

Log Cabin At Lee’s Summit$587/nightly avg

Be it winter or summer, this fine log cabin is ready to accommodate groups yearning for a spell in the mountains. Winter visitors will appreciate the convenience of walking to the lifts (the distance is short and takes between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on your speed), as well as the hot tub, and steam room. Summertime travelers will love the outdoor spaces and proximity to both the town and trails. Everyone will revel in the rustic design and elegant furnishings which make this home the very picture of romantic mountain living.

    Alpine Edge Retreat$755/nightly avg

Whether you’re out for winter fun or summer sun, this home above the trails is an excellent way to get the most out of Crested Butte’s natural treasures. It is a 10-minute drive from the ski area, sitting just above Meridian Lake, a curious relic of the glacial age and a great place to hike. The trailhead for the scenic route up Snodgrass Mountain likewise begins at your doorstep. Inside, the home is spacious and the area quiet (though probably less so if you plan to fill the bunk room with four young ones). The house has two queen bedrooms with deck access and a lovely master suite with a Jacuzzi bath and king-sized bed.

Great house! Exactly as described! Property manager was amazing to work with!
    Awesome house and location!
Wonderful house and location. Beautiful views from every porch. This house was perfect for our family vacation. The gift bag with local coffee and treats was such a nice touch- you can tell the owners put a lot of thought into everything. The house is well stocked with items you might need for cooking, laundry, toiletries, etc. Paige, the property manager, was so responsive to any questions we had. We had an amazing time!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alpine Edge. We loved the location and the spectacular views from the living area and decks And the manager of the home (Paige) was terrific – very responsive to our questions and provided very helpful information re local events and activities.

Big Beautiful Home In The Butte$850/nightly avg

Whether seen from the chairlift, the bike trail, or the vaulted great room of this wonderful home, the mountains around Crested Butte are a moving sight. Of course, the possibilities extend far beyond simply seeing the mountains when you stay at this home. Tackle them in the way that suits you then return home to the comforts afforded by a hot tub, two beautiful living areas, and a home-cooked meal enjoyed in the spacious kitchen. The bedrooms (there are five of them) are spacious as well, something everyone in a large family will appreciate.

Family stayed for a wedding and the wedding venu was very close which made it so nice for the family to get to. The house was very nice and comfortable for the family
This is a really nice property with tons of provided amennities. The view from this property is breathtaking. The family room is next to the dining room and next to the kitchen. It makes for a great gathering for large parties. The outside hot tub is a treat after a day of skiing. The property is a quick 5 min drive to Crested Butte Ski Resort.Be aware, the driveway is on a slope. If there is snow and ice, you will need 4 wheel drive or chains. On day we are to leave, we were hit with a snowstorm the night before. Kudos to the property management team, they came out, cleared out the snow and ice on the driveway, and helped get us on our way. The temperature while we were there was constantly in the low single digits. The house heating is fantastic. We never felt cold or draft inside the house. The owner also provided a weber gas grill for us. They normally do not leave the grill out during the snow seaaon, but was very accomodating when we asked. The only issue we had was that the garbage disposal was clogged and not working. This was reported on day one, but unforunately was not fixed.Other than that, everybody had a blast and we thoroughly enjoyed using this property.
Beautiful home nestled into the neighborhoods flanking Crested Butte resort. Plenty of room to spread out. The gas fireplace in the living room was perfect. Kitchen was well-equipped except for a missing colander and no baking sheet. We didn’t receive entry information prior to the trip so I called the property office on the drive up to CB (assumed it wasn’t being released until the 4pm check in time which came and went) and both codes I was given did not allow us to gain access to the house via the front door. Same for the garage code. Finally, after texting with the rental personnel, I received a garage code that worked. We were not able to successfully enter through the front door all week. But the garage allowed us access. The snow in the driveway did prevent us from leaving one of the days as the plow only came one of the days we had heavy snowfall (their rule is they have 24 hours to clear 6+ inches of snow). We are native New Yorkers used to driving in snow but we couldn’t find a shovel to clear out the driveway (buried under snow on the back porch from previous renters), so we walked to the resort that day. The views, ambience, hot tub and comfortable amenities made up for the few snafus and we were able to enjoy the house for the week.
The property was lovely! Beautiful area! If you are going in the winter, however, you need a 4 wheel drive to get out of the driveway I heavy snow. Stunning house and Stunning views!
We had an awesome experience with these owners. They take great care of their property and great care of their visitors. The views are amazing and the memories will be forever remembered. We heard from several of those with us that this was their best vacation ever. We experienced all of Crested Butte and had a beautiful home every night to relax, cook, and play games in. We highly recommend this property. They went above and beyond to make our stay amazing.

    Ski-In/Ski-Out In Prospect$1,829/nightly avg

Another grand ski-in/ski-out property served by the Gold Link lift, this 5,000-square-foot home is an outdoorsman’s dream. Though the master suite is certainly the most extravagant bedroom, the three queen rooms are not without charm, filled with decor reminiscent of a grand old hotel and amenities such as steam showers. With so many games and places to play both indoors and out, children will surely not mind staying in the humbler bunk or double twin rooms (the latter of which can be converted into a king).

Best house and best location in Mt. Crested Butte. The house fit 8 adults and 8 kids with ease. Hands down the best experience we’ve had with a rental house. Will be back as often as we can.
This was absolutely a great and beautiful house to spend a week with our family. It was exactly, if not better, than advertised. It was clean and well furnished and equipped. The owner was the most communicative I have ever seen prior to the rental and was very available for a few questions during the week. All in all, it was my best experience with a VRB0 rental.
The property is showing some wear and tear from renting and needs a little sprucing up. In general we loved it and also the generous amount of towels which made up for midweek housekeeping
Very nice property, may things about the house make it great for a large family or large group. Great location.
Wonderful house. Excellent host. Could not have been any better. Thank you!!

Plush And Pet-Friendly Home On The Hill$820/nightly avg

Everyone joining you on your Crested Butte trip will doubtless thank you for the invite, but few people will ever be as grateful as your dogs should you stay at this large home near the base. It’s a 2-minute drive from the base of the ski area, but your dog will surely appreciate walking down when you visit one of the town’s many dog-friendly restaurants. Given its size, the house is great for large groups. Up to 14 people can spread out across five bedrooms. Also notable is the large deck which comes with a grill as well as stunning mountain views.

The home was beautiful, clean and there were plenty of amenities. I can’t think of a single negative regarding this visit.
The house is everything advertised and more. Very roomy, very well appointed and in a beautiful hilltop location about a mile north of the charming downtown area. Very close to great hiking trails, biking trails, and Mt Crested Butte. Highly recommend staying here if you are a large group/family. Very roomy and very nicely furnished. Our family truly enjoyed our week here. Especially loved sitting on the 2 different patios with incredible views early in the morning and evenings. On our first night, as we all gathered on the patio – 3 deer joined us on the hillside just behind the house. What a special treat for those of us that rarely see such beautiful animals in their natural habitat.
We had an amazing time at this house. Great group seating areas, never felt crowded, large sleeping areas, good location up in Mt CB. 10/10 recommend!
We had some friends all come out to get together for some last spring skiing of the season. The house was amazing, in such a great location and the perfect size to comfortably fit everyone. The communication with the owner was 10/10 and i would 100% recommend
Only downfall was that the heat didn’t work too well and was not accurate. We had to turn the heat on and off using the electrical circuit breaker. But overall great house too stay with your family.

    The Outside Inn$1,880/nightly avg

Downtown Crested Butte is full of spas, restaurants, shops, and venues, so it’s no surprise that many people prefer to stay in the heart of town rather than at the base of the ski lift or surrounding mountains. This family home just off Elk Street is the best way to explore the town. Every establishment on Crested Butte’s main drag is just a short walk away and the bus to the ski area stops right across the street. Smartly furnished and built for skiers, the home can comfortably host 14 guests across seven bedrooms.

Frankki’s property was fantastic for our group of friends who were in town for a wedding. Plenty of bedrooms and privacy, with communal space and a beautifully renovated kitchen. The location is extremely central/walkable to everything in town. Frankki was very responsive and shared lots of local tips. Highly recommend this house for your stay in Crested Butte!
The house is open and sunny with great views of the Butte. The Master Suite on the 3rd Floor is outstanding. Kitchen well equipped for cooks with lots of room. Property Manager very attentive as well as host. So convenient to the entire town.
Great property for a large group and well located to downtown CB
Great location. Loved the outdoor table and fire pit.
We used this house to host a group who came to CB to do trail runs. It was spacious, clean, well laid out. It has nice outdoor area for hanging out but we did not use it due to lots of rain this week! Would be lovely in better weather. Highly recommend.

    Grandpa’s Cabin$360/nightly avg

The rustic nature of this cabin above Meridian Lake is one reason it earned its name. But grandpa settled here for good reason. This out-of-the-way corner of Crested Butte was an excellent place to make a home and remains a great spot to take your trip. Single-track bike trails, hiking routes, and epic four-wheel-drive roads abound in the immediate vicinity. Adventure awaits down both paths of every fork in every trail. Not the home for those looking for a modern experience, it is nonetheless charming. There are three queen bedrooms and a loft with six beds. Be sure to invite the whole family.

Lot’s of space for our group of 9. Although the four adults in the loft were a little cramped vs the bedrooms (we were in the master :). Great common area, dining area for a big group. Kitchen access is tight though. Plenty of amenities (paper products, toiletries, laundry, spices). A few in our group really enjoyed the sauna. We missed access to a hot tub, but enjoyed the huge fireplace and playing cards in the evening! Definitely would stay there again.
This was our second stay at grandpa‘s cabin. We really like it there and the location suits us as it is super quiet compared to busy Crested Butte, yet is it only 3 miles away. Susan the owner is great to work with.
Such an amazing space for our group! The sunrise and sunset views with all the flowers were amazing.
Rustic and comfortable cabin perfect for our family ski trip.
My group had a lovely stay at Grandpa’s cabin. The property was a short drive (7min) from the CB ski resort. We enjoyed the magnificent south-facing views of Mount Crested Butte. The rooms were cozy and clean. It’s a terrific space for gathering with friends and family, especially in the dining area and by the fireplace.
