10 Beachfront Bahamas Vacation Rentals You Can Actually Afford

    Jeff Stahlhut
    Updated: March 28, 2023

If you’re anything like me, there was a time in your life when there were vacations, there were beach vacations, and then there was the Bahamas. It was always something to dream about — tropical, distant, and probably out of my price range. Thanks to our friends at Vrbo, though, it turns out you can find a lot of places in the Bahamas that are actually pretty affordable. No, really!

    Videos by TravelAwaits

When planning your trip, be sure to do some digging and learn about where you’re going. Whether you plan to go to Bimini on a cruise, you’re there for a long weekend, you’re headed to Nassau, or want to swim with pigs, you’ll find plenty to do in this beautiful destination! To save you some time, we’ve pulled together 10 affordable vacation rentals that are sure to please, all of which are in different areas of Exuma. Fear not, though, there are lots of ways to island hop around the beautiful Bahamas so you can do a little bit of everything no matter where you stay!

Aqua Vista, Exuma, George Town$575/night avg

This round pedestal house rental at the water’s edge is a one-of-a-kind! Offering amazing ocean views, Aqua Vista features wraparound balconies, a huge private dock, a sunset tiki bar, and so much more on the exterior. Inside, you will love the large kitchen, nice-sized living area, two upstairs bedrooms, and lots more. With incredible views, space for up to 10 people, and so much to do, this is an amazing bargain!

This was our second trip to Aqua Vista and we loved it just as much as the first time! If you want to get away from the world and enjoy some peaceful solitude, this is the place.
This was hands down the best vacation we’ve ever been on. Our ten year old can’t stop talking about how wonderful his vacation was! He swam/ snorkeled just off the private dock every single day. •The views of the Bone Fish Flats are just breathtaking. Photos don’t give the views justice. •The house had everything you could think of. Including games for after dinner activities. And movies.• The washer and dryer were such a wonderful addition. I came home with only one load of laundry. • The DOCK! It was our favorite place for morning coffee and evening cocktails. I already miss watching the sun rise from the bench on the end of the dock. • Communication with Tony and Eric was super quick and they both replied asap. Plus gave advice on who to use for tours, groceries, and so on.I’ve already gave the listing to four people. If you’re debating using this one, use it! Just get a jeep or something similar so you can manage the roads! (That’s for all rentals on the island. The locals say they are working on getting the roads fixed but they aren’t sure when)Thank you so much for such a wonderful rental to spend our vacation at!
We stayed for 10 days and enjoyed every single one of them here! By far the most wonderful amenity is their pier which creates the best setting for late afternoon lounging (and a few drinks), while the clouds drift by and the sun sets – magic! The 2 new bedrooms downstairs were immediately grabbed by our kids, as they are separate, cozy, and extremely private. The road to the place – an end-of-the-road property has the usual fun potholes to navigate around. The house itself is very clean, private and quiet.Do yourself a favor, if you plan to cook at home and visit the local butcher shop to stock up – great quality and prices.
Just returned from our second beautiful trip to Aqua Vista. In the nine months since our first stay, Eric has made many improvements to the property: two new bedrooms downstairs, a new mattress in the master, and installed a fantastic water system. Having drinkable water at the tap made this trip even more enjoyable. It is great to see the attention and care the owners show for this house. Tony was just a phone call away and made sure we had everything we needed. We were sad to leave, and look forward to returning next year sometime.
We wanted a relaxing vacation away from it all. This. Was. IT! I can not express what an amazing place this is. We were off the beaten path but still close enough to Georgetown to have the convenience of the stores and restaurants. The views were amazing. The water was amazing. The AC was cold. The beds were comfortable. Everything we needed was there. We walked/swam/kayaked to bonefish cay and did some snorkeling. It was a good adventure but we could have just stayed and snorkeled at the little reef that was within 50 ft of the property to the left because there were plenty of fish to be seen there during high tide. We did one of the boat tours to all the popular tourist islands and that was awesome, but the rest of the days we spent on the property enjoying the sun and the water. Plenty of movies to watch and games to play. I 100% would stay again and would recommend to any one else. Notes for next time- water shoes are convenient but not a must. The stairs and the ramp to the water were a little rough but doable. We checked a bag for $30 and packed a bunch of snack food in it. I would check 2 next time. It is an island and the food is expensive (I also had 3 teenagers with me so that didn’t help). If you need gas, do not wait until the last minute. Sometimes they run out or the line is super long (again, island life). Other than the few inconveniences of being on an island, everything was exceptional and the owners really do a great job at making it have all the modern amenities but with the island experience. Thank you so much for a vacation that my family and I will never forget!

We enjoyed our stay at Sandy Palms on Hooper’s Bay. Peter and Betty were always very kind and helpful, providing updates on COVID travel guidelines throughout our trip. They responded quickly to messages and questions. The studio apartment was as described and pictured; it’s an efficiency studio on the best beach in Exuma. It was the perfect home base for us as we like to explore, hike, swim, snorkel, kayak, and go boating while we are on island. It was so nice to start and finish each day by swimming with the turtles and relaxing by the calm waters on the beach. Peter provided a car rental for us during our stay and arranged our transportation to and from the airport which makes arrival and departing so much simpler. We typically made our own small breakfasts and snacks and ate lunch or dinner out. Our restaurant favorites: Santanna’s, Julian’s Jerk Shack, Blu, Rusty Anchor, Paul’s Fried Chicken (PFC), Mom’s Bakery, Chat n Chill, and Peace n Plenty. Be sure to check out Out Island Explorers for kayaking and sailing. Thank you Peter and Betty for a relaxing stay!
This property is in the PERFECT location on the island. Located in Hoopers bay, you walk in your “backyard” to the beach and are greeted with the best part of the island for sea turtles. We were able to hand feed turtles right in the ocean. The property itself is about 10 minutes from downtown and within 20 minutes of all the most popular destinations on the island (north and south). The hosts were phenomenal and incredibly accommodating. Highly recommended.
I absolutely loved my stay at Sandy Palms. It was as shown. A cute little place perfect for just the two of us. Yes, it is the bare necessities, but who is staying inside? The outdoor seating was so relaxing. Our neighbors were awesome. It was right there on the beach, so you could come and go as you pleased. The turtles were out in the bay every day. I absolutely loved snorkeling with them. Over all Great Exuma was a wonderful place to explore and I felt very safe. I plan to come back every year or as much as I can. I also look forward to bringing my whole family and staying in the main house. It’s absolutely the best vacation I’ve ever had. I cannot say enough about Peter. He was so nice and helpful with out stay. He even had a car for us to explore the island, which really is a must because there is so much to see. As for walking places, you can do that but the main road is very busy. Helpful Hints: Buying food and essentials can be expensive, so pack the necessities when you can; coffee, creamer, bug spray, baggies, snacks if you can. The only complaint I would have is in our unit there was not a freezer large enough to store ice well. Bring big baggies to break down bags of ice to put them in the dorm size fridge.
My daughter (14 years old) and I stayed 7 nights at Sandy Palms. From the moment we arrived I knew I made the right decision on 1) selecting Exuma 2) selecting Sandy Palms. My daughter and I travel often but this was our first International trip alone and I was a little nervous traveling alone. Let me just say I have never felt safer. The locals are extremely friendly and so eager to assist. I have traveled to many islands and one of my pet peeves is the vendors on beaches and everyone approaching to sell their crafts. This is not an issue in Exuma. Not once were we approached nor did we see vendors. The beach house was exactly as described and very clean. The beach was amazing. We especially enjoyed interacting with the sea turtles. A rental car is a necessity. We rented a small Jeep from Peter which was perfect for beach hopping. When we arrived we were greeted by Peter who explained where stores and local points are interest are located. He was more than happy to assist in any aspect. Exuma is an amazing place. The beaches are amazing and most of the time we were the only ones on the beach or maybe one or two other families. I highly recommend checking out Forbes Hill Beach. This beach is beyond beautiful. Also, check out CocoPlum Beach for the swings and searching for sand dollars at low tide. We found many sand dollars and saw 20-30 starfish. I do recommend bringing snacks if you have room in luggage because food is extremely expensive in Exuma. Would we go again to Exuma? Absolutely! Hopefully we will make another trip soon and will certainly stay at Sandy Palms.
We had a beautiful ground floor view of Hoopers Bay! It was a bit small for us, but we made it work. We could hear other our neighbors at times but it wasn’t anything to really complain about. We were very happy with our stay on Hoopers Bay. We were just steps away from visiting the turtles! They were very active around 9am. We had a great trip! Thank you Peter for making sure we always had clean towels! 😉

I stayed at this place from Aug1st – Aug 8th and didn’t think I had issues until I get a message from the owner stating we put a hole in the wall, and took a bowl. I told her we did not and she sent pictures of a 1″ hole that was behind a chair we never used. I got a claim today from my insurance that I have to pay. Also, we never even used their dishes because we ate out every meal and had ‘to go’ containers for our leftovers.BEWARE if your going to stay here because they left the home unlocked with the key on the dining room table. When we left nobody came to look at the place to verify nothing was wrong, which they should have. We only used the place to sleep and were never there during the day so I was baffled when the owner called and made that claim, which was very insulting. I have stayed in VRBO homes 5 times in The Bahamas and always left the place the way we arrived, which was very clean.Of course, many reading this will say I should have taken pictures when I left and I did. We washed the covers and put them back on the bed (that is sunken in towards the middle). The place looked as if nobody even stayed there when we left.I am not a young punk who trashes place where I stay, I am 49 years old. I take care of a place as if it were my own. I just feel very instulted at this claim, and this is a sign of petty things that can be accused against you. It’s not the money, because that to me is very minimal. It is being accused of something that you know for a fact you didn’t do.SO IF YOU WANT TO STAY AT THIS HOME BEWARE!!

Had such an incredible stay at Point Of View. Beautiful home with incredible view as well as gorgeous private beach. A bit off the beaten path which is exactly what we were looking for. Plenty of small stores and wonderful restaurants close by for groceries and dinner. Rented a 15′ Boston Whaler for a day from Island Exclusive Boat Rentals and Tours. Well worth every penny and they were so incredibly accommodating. They brought the rental boat to us from Georgetown. Highly recommend them for a boat rental. Point Of View is by far one of the nicest rentals we’ve had the pleasure of staying at with vtbo. Highly recommend this beautiful property. We cannot thank Don and Sophia enough for sharing their beautiful home.
We loved our trip! The cottage was on a quiet part of the island. It was a great size and exactly as shown in the listing. Just down the stairs was a great, virtually private beach! We only saw a couple of people walking along the beach over the course of the week. Otherwise, it was all ours!! The water was absolutely gorgeous!!! There was a great deck with loungers and chairs as well as beach chairs and an umbrella. Sophia was easy to communicate with and responded quickly to all our inquiries/needs. The cottage is a bit of a drive to GeorgeTown, but we enjoyed the peace and serenity. Plus, we were closer to Exuma Water Sports, where we did our excursion, which was amazing! Thanks for a relaxing trip to beautiful Exuma!

Overall everything was very well described and as pictured. The villa has absolutely everything you need. Fina was very responsive to Qs over the app and greeted us in person when we arrived. The road is the only slight downside to the property, but take it slow in a regular hire car and it’s absolutely fine. Otherwise its only a 15 min drive into Georgetown, or 15 min drive to Little Exuma (beautiful beaches). We are looking forward to returning soon! Thanks for a wonderful stay.
The property was flawless. It was beautifully kept and very private. The views of the ocean and skyline were unreal. The outdoor accomaodations were plentiful. There were floats, Kayaks, decks and docks with sitting areas. When I return, I will be sure to stay here again. Fine was an amazing host. She made us feel very welcome and was attentive with communication and meeting our needs. I highly recommend this rental and location!
Location was perfect! Brilliant water steps from your door. Fina provided everything we needed from kayaks to extra diving masks and floats! The house was well appointed with everything we needed for an amazing vacation! Thanks for sharing a piece of heaven with us Fina!!!
This was our 2nd time renting this cottage. Fina has everything there that you need. Amazing sunsets/ sunrises. Exhilarating outside shower. Breathtaking views. Bonefish flats right out back. Close proximity to everything and the best restaurants on the island. Highly recommend that you visit and stay at this little piece of paradise.
We had a wonderful visit again at Seabiscuit! It will be in our list of places to visit for years to come!

The house was very well equipped with things that we used on the beach such as chairs, beach towels, umbrella and coolers. The Water filter pitcher in the frig was great!! The location of the house was great, not far from the airport and grocery store and in the middle of the island for going to restaurants and activities on either end of the island.
Even though I had to cut my visit short I would definitely book again. Thanks for allowing me to use your property
My Blue heaven had everything we needed for a great beach house experience. Highly recommend !!!!!
Quick getaway for my husbands birthday and it was beautiful. Perfect size for small family and has everything you need. Beach is extremely private and has a reef roughly 50 yards out that’s perfect for snorkeling. My Blue Heaven was exactly as described and even better and only 10 min from the airport. We’ll be back
Our family had an amazing 2 week stay at My Blue Heaven. This was our first trip to Exuma and the house had everything we could possibly need. It was so welcoming to walk into a cool and well-stocked house after our flight delays and missing luggage. The house is in a central location which made exploring the island easy. The property manager Shayvonne is very responsive and was super helpful during our stay. We truly didn’t want to leave and hope we can stay here again soon!

Close to town but not too close. Nice beach to watch the sunrise. Very comfortable clean house.
Nice beach right off of back patio. Nice cold AC in all rooms. Rented a Jeep and had easy access to the rest of Exuma island!
We enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable house for six adults. The kitchen was well stocked and the house is located on the a long and gorgeous beach. Can’t wait to go back.
This is a fantastic house with a great location! We traveled with our two kids ages 18 and 20. They each had their own room and space to hang out. The house is right on the beach with amazing views and the best porch to sit and watch the sunrises. Location is perfect- almost the middle of the island and about 5 min from the airport. Couldn’t have asked for a better house!

This Villa is beautiful. The beach is beautiful. We will stay here again!
    Great place!
So I had my eye on this property for a while and finally booked it this year. I was excited about the set-up for our family as well as the location. Admittedly the location is great although you cant really see the beach from the house, you can see water. First off, the second bedroom isn’t connected to the “main house” so this is an issue for families with little ones. You have to look closely at the layout to tell this and I imagine most would miss it. So every night we locked dad out of the house and he went to his room. It’s basically two units that are in one structure. So just know this going in. I think for the price the dining table needs an upgrade. It’s really outdoor furniture being used inside and food gets stuck between the wicker so not very sanitary. I get that it’s a beach house, but would be nice to feel like the table was clean. The internet and tv options were great. The a/c worked well except the few times the electric went out, which is common on the island. The biggest issue we had was the doors. While they are beautiful, they aren’t functions. I’m not exaggerating…they are an absolute bear to open and close. No way could my daughter even start to let herself in or out, as both adults struggled. We were told it was due to all the rain, but it was such a pain that we dreaded opening the doors by the end of trip and a METAL handle broke off of one of the doors the day before we left. When I reported it had happened, they weren’t even surprised and said it wasn’t the first time and told us not to worry about it. It was on the extra unit door so Dad somehow managed, but there need to be an alternate entrance other than these terribly heavy sliding door or a call out for the smaller people and older people who can’t just “put their ass into it.”We did feel safe. And the beach is beautiful. But we won’t be back, unfortunately.
My husband and I wanted a beautiful, secluded vacation, and this property fit the bill perfectly! The home is exactly as pictured, with the exception of being even better in person. I am a clean freak, and was blown away with how clean it was. The views from every window were spectacular. The beach was white sand and powdery soft. We were there for six days and saw only eight other people on it the entire time. We felt like it was our private beach! It is centrally located and a short drive to the best grocery and meat stores on the island. A quick 20-minute drive takes you to Coco Plum beach and a 45-minute drive (along beautiful scenery) takes you to the famous Tropic of Cancer beach. The most beautiful blue water we have ever seen. Plenty to do if you are so inclined, and nothing to do but sit in a beach chair and relax if that is your preference! Cannot recommend this property highly enough.
This was our first time to Exuma and Casa Del Mar and we will def be back!! Everything was seamless. The place is just as gorgeous as the photos and centrally located on the island making it easy to get to either side of the island quickly. Everything was clean and just as advertised.

If you are thinking about staying at Exuma do it! The water is unreal. Sunset Cove was so fun for our entire family we had ages ranging from 76 to 6! It was perfect for everyone! The drive is a little further than I would like but the charm overrides the drive! We saw several starfish in the water just in front of the cottage. We kayaked to the lazy river and that was so fun. The house is stocked with everything that you need and the manager communicated with us when we had a need.
We enjoyed our trip to Exuma and were pleased with everything about Sunset Cove. The house is just as pictured on the listing. Judy, the property manager, was accessible and so helpful. She helped us with our rental car, booking a boat for a day, and booking a fishing excursion. The owner, Will, was very helpful prior to our trip, checked on us while we were there, and followed up with us afterwards. This definitely was the best vacation we have taken as a family!! We will be back!
Beautiful property excellent accommodations. As a family we prefer to stay in a more secluded location and this was perfect. We were so close to some amazing beaches, excellent restaurants, fishing at the bridge, and of course kayak exploring the bay area. We saw dolphins, turtles, and many tropical fish. Waking up in the morning and seeing that beautiful view, the pictures do not do it justice. Will and Phil are excellent hosts. We appreciated the recommendations on restaurants and things to do, and the property manager Judy is responsive. The kitchen is very well equipped, The beds are comfortable and towels are high-quality. It is very obvious these are people who care about their guests. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed. Is that enough
Our stay at Sunset Cove was magical. The house was beautiful, clean and cozy, with all of the amenities. And the location speaks for itself. Sublime! Even with a broken leg, we kayaked every day and explored the Cove and Moriah Bay. Our hosts (Phil and Will) could not be more accommodating and responsive. Hope to return next year.
Great location! Our stay was amazing. Great house, well stocked. Judy was awesome and went above and beyond! Will the owner was so helpful and checked in. We highly recommend this property!!! We will be back!

Great location near Georgetown and centrally located, which made both ends of the island accessible. Property management bought groceries ahead of arrival and was responsive to Wi-Fi and HVAC blips. Great back porch view. Rented a boat and docked it overnight. Easy to explore and get to Stocking Island from cove. Jolly Hall beach was pretty and secluded. Recommend renting beach chairs.
We loved our stay at the Jolly Hall Beach House! The location of the house was perfect for us with George Town located close by. There are also a couple of grocery stores close by which was nice when we needed to run out and get something quickly. Willy the property caretaker is very friendly and was able to answer any questions that we had during our visit. The house was very clean and comfortable. The parking area had plenty of space for 3 cars. The beach is easy to get to with access being just off the driveway, the path is short and there is an outdoor shower area that is great for rinsing off. The dock was nice for the boat that we rented, the water at the end of the dock is only around a foot deep at low tide. The outdoor pavilion is located up the hill from the main house and is accessed via a path and steps. The view from the pavilion area was incredible. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would stay at the Jolly Hall Beach House again.
First time at this house but not first time in Exuma. House was fabulous and had everything we needed. We were on the dock daily and location was convenient to everything! We will definitely be coming back and staying at the same house!
We come to Exuma a few times a year. This was our 1st time staying on Jolly Hall. The location of the home and the views are breathtaking. Especially from the pavilion on the hill.Access to the beach was right off the driveway and the shower there was excellent after getting out on the beach. The bedrooms were spacious and clean and the beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels for each bathroom. I’d recommend a few more beach towels. We don’t get in the water as much in the winter, but in the summer we’re in every day.The living area downstairs is a bit tight. We had friends over and it can get a bit cramped if you have more than 4 people there. The kitchen is small and is pretty well stocked for cooking. I’d recommend better cooking utensils and knives. The bbq grill outside was a plus as well as the outdoor furniture. The pavilion on the hill was great when we had company over! It has good lighting and electricity. We work A LOT while we vacation so having good internet was a plus. Willy the caretaker was phenomenal. We had only a few bumps, but he was there to care of anything. Excellent communication and a really enjoyable person.Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Great location, right on end of beach. looking down entire long pristine beach. From Dan the owner to Willie the care taker, everything was great.Crystal clear aqua blue waters with white sandy beach….. loved it…Want more of it….

This was our second stay at Sundance on Cat Island and it lived up to all of our expectations! We had an amazing vacation! The property is wonderful and the beach and surrounding area is pristine. It is truly paradise! On top of that, the property manager, Leslie, was amazing and was on top of everything. We are already talking about when our third trip will be. Would definitely recommend!
Everything we wanted in a vacation was at this property. The house is a great design and layout, it is newer (4 yrs), yet has a homey feel. But the beach is like a dream. A curved walkway (no steps) leads to white sand and crystal clear water as far as the eye can see. Then to top it off, the hosts were just what we wanted. They helped with all questions were always available yet not checking on us as we like privacy. This vacation was worth every penny. (I am curious as to why the owners don’t live here year around!)
This Cat Island home is a slice of paradise. The thoughtfully designed house allows you to savor the beautiful beach. I adored the tile in the bathrooms-reminded me of Santa Fe. A very special place and we plan on returning. Also, Leslie, the property manager, is helpful and quick to respond. I do strongly suggest renting a car and exploring.
Even though we arrived in the off season, the vacation exceeded our expectations. Beautifully situated on an almost private beach and fully stocked for our use. Leslie and Ned were a wealth of knowledge and helped us navigate our way around. While there was not much for our young daughter to do she was able to be occupied in the water and a charted fishing trip. I would definitely recommend Sundance house to anyone looking to unplug and get away.
Great place to just relax and slow your life down
