If you’ve got the Lyft app downloaded on your phone, you’re ready to zip around Europe with ease.

Previously, Lyft was illegal in most European cities. You might have been directed to download Freenow instead, which is a ride-hailing app live in more than 180 cities across nine European countries. Back in July 2025, Lyft acquired Freenow for a cool $197 million. Shortly after, Lyft began beta testing in new European markets.
But it’s only recently that Americans heading to Europe can use their Lyft app instead. Here’s what you need to know about the new rollout.
Lyft is live in Europe—but where can you use it?
On September 30, 2026, Lyft expanded from the US and Canada into Europe. The rollout includes new technology that will, eventually, allow Lyft to keep expanding its reach globally. For travelers like you, that means one thing: No need to download any other rideshare apps during your trip to Milan, Berlin, or beyond.
At least, not in the near future.
For now, Lyft is launching in select cities, which include only Barcelona and Hamburg. However, the app will expand throughout October into cities including London, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Athens, and Warsaw. By the end of October, it will be live in Spain, Italy, Greece, Poland, Ireland, Germany, England, Scotland, and France.
You can use the same Lyft app as you do in the United States to hail a ride in major destinations across the continent. Just one note: You’ll be charged in local currency when you book a Lyft abroad, which is the most economical way to make purchases abroad. However, in the future, Lyft will allow users to decide whether they want to pay in the local currency or dollars. (Or another home currency.)
If Lyft isn’t live at your destination in time for your next Euro trip, download and use Freenow instead.
