If you’re an experienced traveler who likes to use hacks to save money when booking flights, hotels, tours, and more, I’m sure you know a thing or two about third-party booking sites.

From Booking to Priceline to FlightHub, third-party booking sites (also called OTAs or ‘online travel agents’ because they help you plan trips) find and offer deals that let you save hundreds on pricey transportation and lodging. Most often, they’re used to find deals on flights, hotels, resorts, car rentals, and bundles that combine these offers.
I personally avoid third-party booking sites when possible—which is standard advice from travel experts pretty much everywhere. That being said, there’s always an exception. Third-party booking sites are sometimes the better option for getting the right deal, whether you want savings or a specific flight route.
How do you know if a third-party booking site is reliable?
The question is—which third-party booking site should you rely on? Some have better reputations than others. And if you really want to dig into the nitty-gritty, I recommend checking out Trustpilot. Trustpilot is a publicly traded company based in London that currently has over 330 million user reviews for any and all companies.
Is it perfect? No—it’s a public forum on the internet. However, Trustpilot weights its reviews based on whether purchases are verified or not. It tries, in other words, to maintain review integrity, and is a tool that travelers can rely on to learn more about companies they’re considering booking with.
Let’s take a closer look at how the most popular third-party booking sites stack up on Trustpilot. These ratings were accessed on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. They can be compared to ratings on Google Reviews and the Better Business Bureau, in case you want to cross-compare.
A quick note: If you see an abysmal Trustpilot rating for a company that has always treated you well, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work with them. Every company listed below has years of experience delivering travel deals—no need to write off a good thing based on other travelers’ opinions. For example, I’ve had good experiences with Booking.com consistently for ten years, but it has the worst rating on Trustpilot. (Spoiler alert.)

Expedia
3.2/5 stars on Trustpilot (19k reviews)
- What the company does well: The website is a breeze to use. You can also put together holiday packages easily, including flight and hotel bundles.
- What users say it gets wrong: Customer service can be frustrating, especially for users who show up to their hotel and realize the reservation was never logged. Unexpected hotel fees are another reason travelers leave negative reviews.

- What users say it gets wrong: Booking issues are common, including last-minute cancellations, double-bookings, and missing bookings. Support teams are also viewed as unresponsive. Lastly, Booking clients have been subjects of phishing scams in which the website is impersonated by hackers (which isn’t Booking’s fault, but it’s a very reasonable critique).
Priceline

- What the company does well: Independent booking agents are very helpful and, as some users have noted, helped them save money while building an excellent itinerary.
- What users say it gets wrong: Unexpected fees are a recurring problem in which mandatory local fees, service charges, and other hidden costs drive up the final bill. Some support teams are also unhelpful, according to some users.
