Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is one of the most effortlessly scenic cities in the United States.

Just a short drive out of the city, and you’ll find yourself close to some of Appalachia’s most popular hiking trails and lookouts. Within city limits, you’ll feel a blend of southern culture with a heavy dash of artisanal know-how and homegrown projects, from the galleries of the River Arts District to restaurants like Nine Mile and White Duck Taco Shop.
In short, if you’re big on atmosphere, Asheville delivers. (Locals like to call it the AVL vibe.)
But you need a place to stay that encapsulates the city’s independent yet charming spirit. If you usually stick to hotels, check out these stylish, cozy boutique hotels and inns. If not, I recommend reading through my short list of the best Airbnbs in Asheville below.
Picturesque Airbnbs in Asheville for all types of trips
Wolf Den Loft

- Neighborhood: Historic Downtown Asheville
- Sleeps: Five guests in one bedroom (one floor is a studio-style setup, while the second has a large pullout couch)
- What makes it special? The neighborhood is highly sought after thanks to its historic architecture and walkability. It’s also a hub for nightlife, including music venues and popular clubs. This loft rental is also very large at 2,600 square feet, making it ideal for gatherings. Just watch out for noise—it’s a busy area.
B Flat

- Neighborhood: Downtown Asheville
- Sleeps: Four guests in one bedroom (plus a sleeper sofa in the living room)
- What makes it special? As with the first Downtown listing (above), this rental is smack in the action of South Slope. Orange Peel, Asheville Yards, and more are a short walk away. Plus, the unit is on the second floor of a unique 1920s building. Just make sure to monitor your noise levels—this is a shared building.
Modern Guest Suite

- Neighborhood: East-West Asheville
- Sleeps: Two guests in one bedroom
- What makes it special? This is a guest suite that has been redesigned with bright accents and many green features. There’s also a small outdoor space where you can enjoy a tree-lined backyard. The hosts live upstairs, but make every effort to maintain low noise levels. If you like a quiet, tree-lined retreat, this is an ideal setup.
Downtown Loft

- Neighborhood: Downtown Asheville
- Sleeps: Eleven guests in four bedrooms (plus a sleeper sofa in the living room)
- What makes it special? This is a luxury renovated loft, which tells you what you need to know. Expect grand, open spaces filled with austere additions, like a brand new pool table and pressed metal ceilings. There are also four bedrooms, making this a comfortable stay for a small group. Just know that the bathrooms are ensuite, meaning you need to be comfortable sharing. Aside from its unique design, this loft has a highly walkable location, letting you venture out without worrying about driving.
Urban Retreat

- Neighborhood: Town Mountain
- Sleeps: Two guests in a studio
- What makes it special? If you prefer to stay just outside the main hubs in Asheville, this gorgeous Town Mountain escape gives you sunset views while you enjoy plenty of greenery. Despite the nature views, you’re still close enough to walk to Charlotte Street and its bakeries. I also appreciate the design of the studio—it blends Scandi minimalism with Appalachian flavor, and has upscale features throughout.
Guesthouse in Heart of Asheville

- Neighborhood: Historic Montford neighborhood
- Sleeps: Two guests in one bedroom
- What makes it special? This unit is in the carriage house of a 1897 Queen Anne Victorian home, which was once a BnB. That gives you historic digs, a beautiful neighborhood to explore, and attention to detail from the hosts that many Airbnbs lack. In just ten minutes, you can also reach downtown on foot. (You might prefer to spend your evenings in the lovely backyard, though.)
West Asheville Studio

- Neighborhood: West Asheville
- Sleeps: Two guests in one bedroom
- What makes it special? This guest suite puts you in a prime location to explore West Asheville, widely considered its trendiest new area. The rental has plenty of natural light and green features, and is also dog-friendly. According to the hosts, it’s also one of Airbnb’s top 1% rentals worldwide. A pretty solid stamp of approval, in my opinion.
Cozy Apartment

- Neighborhood: River Arts District (also close to Downtown)
- Sleeps: Two guests in one bedroom
- What makes it special? Located between RAD and Downtown Asheville, this unique apartment gives you the best of both worlds: space to relax (on a screened-in porch, nonetheless) and proximity to great activities, from Asheville Yards to The Grey Eagle. You can also fit in more guests, if needed—just let the host know. It’s $50 per guest per night.
Charming Cottage

- Neighborhood: East End
- Sleeps: Three guests in one bedroom (living room has a sleeper sofa)
- What makes it special? You’ll have views of Downtown Asheville from this vantage, as this charming cottage is located in the East End neighborhood, where you can enjoy quiet residential living. (And tree-lined streets.) Still, you’re close enough to reach Asheville’s hotspots, from South Slope to downtown.
Sunset Perch

- Neighborhood: East End
- Sleeps: Four guests in two bedrooms
- What makes it special? With a grand terrace that overlooks the city, you’ll be able to soak up sunset views with a drink in hand. Despite the quiet neighborhood, you’re a short drive from all the big attractions around the city. As a perk, this unit also has ensuite bathrooms in both bedrooms.
