I visited Sarasota over ten years ago, and I still remember the trip fondly for one unexpected reason: Sarasota had a vibrant, tropical vibe that I wasn’t expecting.

And that’s in addition to its gorgeous beaches, year-round warm weather, and the surprising small-town vibe that it has despite its size. Its downtown area is walkable, its white-sand beaches are silky soft, and it’s got an active arts scene.
But the real allure for me were all those oversized, tropical plants, especially what I saw at Myakka River State Park. It gave the area a lush feel, even in its quieter residential areas. As someone living in New York City, it was a breath of fresh (exotic) air.
In honor of my first visit to the city, I’m rounding up some of the most beautiful Airbnbs in Sarasota that deliver on that lush atmosphere. Whether you want a private rental by the beach or a more secluded getaway, check out the picks below.
Airbnbs in Sarasota that have an exotic, tropical feel
2-Bedroom with a Jungle Backdrop

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom house has a stellar location close to Lido Beach, along with a jungle-esque backdrop. You’ll get to enjoy Sarasota’s exotic greenery outside just about every patio door and window. As an added perk, this rental also has memory-foam mattresses—and a mini putting hole in the backyard.
3-Bedroom with a Tropical Backyard

This three-bedroom home has a classic Floridian feel, blending beach cottage vibes with midcentury modern elements. You can comfortably sleep six guests thanks to this spacious setup, including a room with two twin beds. The exotic factor comes into play in the backyard. There’s a wonderfully manicured backyard that has a dining table. It’s very well maintained, meaning this isn’t the ‘wildest’ Airbnb in Sarasota when it comes to exotic greenery.
Romantic 1-Bedroom Escape

This simple and colorful one-bedroom home has a truly exceptional feature: A covered outdoor pool. But there’s more for couples who might not want to be clothed: You also have a private lanai and outdoor shower. Tropical trees and plants huddle around the glass-enclosed private pool, making you feel like you’re swimming through the jungle. A very romantic jungle.
Secluded Cottage on a 6-Acre Plot

Want to feel like you’re in another world without leaving Sarasota? This secluded cottage is located on a private 6-acre homestead that dates back to 1968. The historic home is both cozy and rustic. Outside, you’ll find a healthy forest and tropical plants galore. There are even walking trails that weave through the trees—and bald eagles flying overhead.
Bus in the Jungle

This custom-built bus is stationary and decked out with modern features, from a functional kitchenette to a large bathroom with a shower to a split AC unit. Outside, there’s a small patio where you can hang out, eat meals, and otherwise soak up the tropical scenery. There’s even a small workout spot with bars and hanging rings for any gymnasts.
Colorful Bungalow Surrounded by Tropical Plants

I’ve saved the best for last. This two-bedroom bungalow has everything you could want from an Airbnb in Sarasota. The design is modern, cozy, and clean. The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms are newly renovated and fitted with modern amenities—it’s like something out of a catalogue. Best of all, the front yard, back yard, and everywhere in between is covered in lush greenery and colorful tropical plants. There’s even a hammock out back where you can take it all in.
