The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is now accepting applications for a two-week role as the islands’ Chief Relaxation Officer, aka CRO. The CRO will be chosen by a real ‘Board of Relaxation’, which will review applications.
The ‘winner’ doesn’t receive gifts—they receive mandates, like having to sip island cocktails on the beach (oh no!), spend daily time by the water (terrible!), and sleep a minimum of eight hours a night (unforgivable!).
While it probably sounds too good to be true, it’s not. Again, you have until February 17th, 2026, to submit your application to the Board of Relaxation if you want to become the Cayman Islands’ first-ever CRO. Here’s what else you need to know about this tropical opportunity.
Inside the Board of Relaxation’s hunt for a CRO

The goal of this opportunity is to help Americans slow down and get a feel for life in the Cayman Islands. (A little vaCay, if you will.) The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory that’s great for solo traveling, especially if you like diving and pristine beaches.
The winner will receive a two-week all-paid ‘work’ trip that includes round-trip flights to Grand Cayman, island-hopping flights to Cayman Brac, luxury accommodations, meals, activity stipends, transportation, and a ‘no-itinerary itinerary’ that was created by locals who know a thing (or ten) about downtime.
To apply, you need to submit your vacation horror story here. The Board of Relaxation will make their selection, then reach out to you directly.
Just know that if you sign up and win, you’ll be expected to work around the clock to do things like:
- Sleep eight hours a night
- Spend time reading, floating, or otherwise lounging by the water
- Enjoy fresh dishes like coconut ceviche
- Drink island cocktails (or mocktails) with views of the beach
- Dine with Caymanian locals to get a feel for life on the island
- Explore nature and see rare species like the blue iguana
- Let the sunset cleanse you as you relax on Seven Mile Beach
