How many times have you traveled for love?
Videos by TravelAwaits
According to a recent survey from Tawkify, a match-making service based in the United States, a startling number of singles are willing to make more than ten trips a year just to see their boo.
Is love in the air these days? Or has our more nomadic world turned the average person into someone willing to migrate for love?
Let’s dig into the Tawkify survey, which asked 1,000 single Americans to weigh in on the status and reality of their long-distance relationships. Some respondents are in LDRs with other Americans, while others are in committed relationships with people who live abroad.
Here’s what romantic partners in long-distance relationships across multiple generations have to say.
Inside the Tawkify survey—how many people are traveling often for love?
The Tawkify survey was conducted with single Americans with the goal of figuring out just how far they’d go (literally) for love, and what they think the future holds for long-distance couples. Ready to see some of the more surprising findings?
Over 3 in 5 Americans surveyed said that they would be open to a long-distance relationship. The majority of respondents (31%) said their ideal distance would be 30-100 miles. Another 21% said they’d prefer a long-distance relationship that’s within 30 miles of home. Only 16% said they’d date someone living in another country.
Why is there such a willingness to go for long-distance relationships? According to the Tawkify survey, 69% percent of respondents seek out strong emotional connections, and 65% seek out partners with shared interests and values. 59% of respondents also said that they’d go for an LDR if no local options appealed to them.
And, the grand coup of the Tawkify study: 84% of respondents said they’d be willing to relocate for a love interest. In terms of generations, Millennials (68%) and Gen Z (64%) are open to long-distance relationships, up slightly from Gen X and older (54%).
If you’re interested in more data points, I recommend digging into the study (linked above). It’s a pretty mind-opening survey that showcases just how mobile the average American is today, especially when it comes to love.
