Last year, I reported on the rise of semi-private airlines, including companies like Aero, Surf Air, and JSX.

The idea is simple: Passengers head to smaller, regional airports where they can board smaller, nicer planes. Thanks to those smaller regional airports, checking in, checking bags, and getting through security is also easier. In most cases, you can arrive only 20-30 minutes before your departure.
The big catch is higher prices. Still, they aren’t exorbitant by any stretch—especially when compared to business class and first class fares from legacy airlines.
Then came 2025. Airlines raised prices and shrunk seats. The US government took a big step back from passenger rights, then caused airport mayhem after a record-breaking government shutdown that saw TSA and ATC working without pay.
In short, the concept of semi-private airlines fell under the radar as passengers took on more immediate air travel challenges.
But companies like JSX didn’t take the year off. In fact, they’ve expanded. If you’ve been dreaming of upgrading your air travel experience, consider this your sign. JSX routes are available in Southern California—and they aren’t nearly as expensive as you’re imagining.
JSX to launch new routes in 2026
JSX has a small fleet of 30-passenger planes that offer service in Southern California and select Mexican airports. Back in 2024, it was offering regular service between 19 locations. This year, they’re expanding their routes outside of Santa Monica Airport (SMO).
Beginning January 22, 2026, JSX will offer daily service between Scottsdale Airport and SMO. At the same time, JSX will also expand its service between Las Vegas and Santa Monica to two flights per day.
Want to guess the pricing for those flights?
Only $215 for one-way tickets. Sure, it’s not budget by any stretch, but it’s a sweet deal when you consider those large, comfortable seats, boutique airport experience, and the free Starlink wi-fi that will be available in 2026 on all flights.
Check out JSX and, if you enjoy your flight, consider joining their members’ club for rebates.
