Looking for a little holiday gift advice?
Videos by TravelAwaits
I’ve got an insight for the traveler in your life: they’d probably rather receive a trip this holiday season than a material gift.
Recently, point.me, a platform that lets you book airfare, hotels, and other experiences using your points, dived deep into what travelers are hoping to unwrap during the holidays. The study looked at responses to their annual survey for point.me users.
The results? The study shows that travel-related gifts, especially flight tickets and gift cards, are high on the wish list for travelers.
If you want a little holiday inspiration, here’s what we can learn from the point.me survey.
Inside the survey—and tips on what to buy the traveler in your life
According to the survey, 86% of travelers prefer an experiential travel gift over a tangible item, while 83% would prefer to receive a trip as a gift for the year. As in, they’d prefer a single trip as a gift for their birthday and the holidays combined.
Unsurprisingly, 95% of survey respondents would love to receive a business-class plane ticket over a luxury designer item. Another 83% would prefer an economy-class ticket over an expensive electronic item, like a laptop.
Here’s the sweet spot for gift-givers like you: 72% of travelers would prefer a travel-related gift card that they can use for hotels, flights, and other travel services.
So, if you want to nail your gift-giving with a traveler this holiday season, don’t worry—you don’t need to buck up for a pricey business class ticket or a full paid-for trip. (Go for it, if you can, of course!) Instead, stick with a gift card that they can use to put toward their next trip.
If you think they’d enjoy learning how to use their travel rewards points to book travel experiences, buy them a subscription to point.me. Or buy a gift card directly. For example, Delta offers gift cards, along with Marriott.
