I don’t make many demands of a carry-on suitcase.

In fact, I can only think of three features that truly matter in 2026 when it comes to a functional, lasting carry-on suitcase.
First, it should be on the small side in case airlines continue shrinking their carry-on limitations. Second, its wheels should be hardy but on the quiet side. Third, the carry-on shouldn’t have a power bank built in, and it shouldn’t weigh a lot.
I give bonus points for aesthetics, expandable zippers, and high-quality materials, like a polycarbonate shell—but the most important features are size, weight, and wheel quality.
Still, despite my outlook on carry-on suitcases and my short list of requirements, there’s always a new innovation to check out. Recently, I had the chance to test out Coolife’s Carry-On Luggage Suitcase with an expandable front pocket that pops out from the hard-shell exterior.
It’s the first time I’ve seen a pop-out pocket on a hard-shell suitcase—and it made the carry-on stand out. If you’re looking for a carry-on suitcase with a front pocket, here’s what you need to know about the latest Coolife Carry-On and its unique new feature. If you want to learn more, you can read more about its features directly on the Coolife site or via Amazon.
Coolife Carry-On: the basics
Before I dive into what makes the front pocket a unique feature, let me lay out its foundational features. The Coolife Carry-On comes with interior compartments that make for easy organization, including a wet mesh and waterproof pocket. I haven’t seen a waterproof pocket before—it was a very pleasant surprise. (Even the interior pockets were made of a soft, suede-like material that was far bougier than the standard polyester pockets.)
The suitcase also comes with a dual TSA-lock that you can open with a key or with a code. The wheels are also 360-degree spinners that are durable, smooth, and quieter than my Away carry-on. The handle was also made to minimize vibrations when you hit bumpier sidewalks and roads.
In short, the Coolife Carry-On ticks a lot of the boxes that I look for when choosing luggage. And we haven’t even gotten to its coolest feature yet: that front pocket.
Coolife Carry-On: front pocket experience
The carry-on’s front pocket is its real secret ingredient. The panel has a zipper that lets you pull it down 180 degrees. But there are two zippers that lock into the carry-on’s TSA lock at the top of the bag, letting you unzip the front pocket as much as you need before securing it again.
The pocket also comes with pockets and compartments designed specifically for laptops, tablets, documents, and more. There are two mesh zipper pockets where you can secure electronics or smaller items. It makes it easy to keep items within reach without carrying. A separate personal item. Additionally, you can keep your electronics in the front pocket, making it easy to remove them and get through security.
What types of travelers should consider the Coolife Carry-On with a front pocket?
If you need access to a laptop while you’re on the go, the Coolife Carry-On is perfect for you. Whether you’re a business traveler, a digital nomad, or just want to get some work done on a long flight, the Coolife Carry-On makes it easy to get out your laptop or tablet with its front zipper.
Business travelers can also keep important documents within reach using the pocket’s compartments. In short, it acts like a mini-briefcase, letting you combine your personal and work items in the same suitcase using two distinct compartments.
As a travel writer who works remotely during many trips, the Coolife Carry-On has a similar appeal for me. Though I don’t travel specifically for business, as a travel writer, all of my trips are part of my work life. The carry-on’s front pocket makes it easy for me to keep work close on long flights and train rides. (I’m a big fan of handling boring admin at 40,000 feet, where I have no distractions and no place to run.)
Personally, I like the idea of keeping my laptop and other important goods in my carry-on instead of using a separate backpack or tote. Yes, it heightens the risk of loss in the event the suitcase goes missing—but it also gives me one less bag to keep track of during hectic travel periods.
In other words, if you’re tired of lugging around a separate personal item for shorter trips, the Coolife Carry-On’s front pocket lets you keep your must-haves within reach easily. No need to open the whole suitcase to grab what you need.
