Move over, Waymo. Amazon has launched its Zoox driverless car program in Las Vegas… and it’s absolutely free to use. (For now.)

Zoox vehicles are robotaxis that have no driver, no steering wheel, no pedals, and no shifter. They’re also shaped like boxes and have a ‘carriage style’ seating setup that lets you face other passengers, bucking traditional car design. Zoox vehicles opened to the public on September 10, 2025, and have offered select routes up and down the Strip.
Assuming you’re brave enough to buckle up for a driverless robotaxi ride and don’t mind waiting in a (usually short) cue, you can get up and down the Strip without spending a dime.
That’s a pretty unbeatable offer—but it comes with a few strings attached. Here’s what you need to know.
Meet Zoox, Vegas’s free, driverless robotaxis

Want to take a free Zoox ride in Vegas? First, you need to download the app, which is available for Android and iOS. When your ride shows up, you’ll use a license plate number that’s displayed on the app to confirm it’s the right vehicle. You’ll also get real-time pickup updates and post-ride summaries.
The app has preloaded options for where you can travel, meaning it’s only available to pick you up and drop you off from set locations. Each has a visible ride-hail zone where you can find your Zoox.
So far, there aren’t too many locations on the list. It includes AREA15, Topgolf, Resorts World Las Vegas, and other resorts. Zoox is likely to expand the list shortly—and it already has a waiting list for its San Francisco launch later this year.
Like Waymo, there are security features and help features on the app and in the vehicle that can help you in the event of a mishap. I’ve seen a few videos on Instagram where Zoox vehicles got confused at major intersections because lane lines weren’t clear, for example, but they eventually got onto track without incident.
