Bev was kind enough to answer a few of our burning travel questions. Read what she had to say below.
TA: How many years have you been traveling and what got you hooked?
Bev: I’ve been on the move for 30 years. Curiosity about the world and knowing I’m only a tiny speck on the planet.
TA: Do you specialize in a particular type of travel?
Bev: Soft adventure; food; luxury and cruising.
TA: What is the best vacation you’ve ever taken?
TA: What’s one place you’ve always wanted to visit?
TA: What’s one thing you ALWAYS pack when you travel?
Bev: My Swiss Army knife.
TA: If you could only give a traveler one piece of advice, what would it be?
Bev: Don’t rush around; be still and take it all in before you explore in a respectful manner.
TA: What are some of your favorite travel blogs and communities?
TA: What would be your #1 recommendation for a place to travel in 2019?
Bev: Spain, but away from Barcelona and into the countryside — Extremadura.
TA: What are the top 3 websites you use for research/inspiration when planning a trip?
TA: Do you have any good airport or flight hacks for people traveling by plane?
Bev: Upload your fave TV shows and movies to your tablet for entertainment. Always carry a good soft (cashmere) wrap to wear while flying (in the cold air conditioning). And eye shades.
TA: What is the best piece of travel advice you’ve ever been given?
Bev: Never drink too much alcohol while travelling alone.
TA: Is there something you think most travelers worry too much about?
Bev: Security. Don’t get too wound up worrying if someone’s trying to rip you off. Just stay alert and go with the flow.
TA: What’s a travel scam travelers should be wary of?
Bev: Always check your currency notes when getting change or converting currency. Count your notes.
TA: Which country has surprisingly good food?
Bev: Japan has the most delicate and exquisite food.
TA: What is the most beautiful and affordable city you’ve ever visited?
Bev: Hanoi in northern Vietnam. Walk around the lake, visit the streets with French colonial buildings, and have High Tea at the Metropole Hanoi hotel.
TA: What’s one way people can get the most out of their cruise experience?
Bev: Pace yourself onboard and choose your shore excursions to suit your interests.
TA: Have you ever met someone while traveling who changed your life?
Bev: A Canadian writer blogger (@journeywoman) who was still in her stride in her sixties with an insatiable lust for travelling, fashion, people, and life. I want to be like her. Evelyn Hannon from Canada.
TA: What are the best places to travel solo and why?
Bev: Japan and Singapore for safety for women.
TA: What’s something that other tourists do when traveling that drives you crazy and why?
Bev: When they are loud to let the world know they are ‘here’. Also being rude to nationals and not respectful of the customs or culture. Also comparing this place with home!
TA: Which underrated destination deserves to be more famous?
Bev: Portugal. So much variety in landscape throughout the country. Rivers, beaches, ancient cities, all a joy to visit.
