12 Beachy Mackinac Island Vacation Home Rentals

    Jeff Stahlhut
    Updated: March 10, 2023

When seeking out a truly unique vacation option, a trip to explore Mackinac Island is definitely something to consider for travelers looking for delicious dining options, great shopping, world-famous fudge, or a visit to Fort Mackinac. With a gorgeous waterfront view of sunrises and sunsets, this vacation destination isn’t accessible by any bridge — there are no cars on the island — and most visitors arrive by ferry. Charmed yet?

    Videos by TravelAwaits

If your itinerary calls for a weekend trip, you’ll find plenty to do on the island — more than enough to keep you busy — be that by taking a carriage tour, hiking, biking, or exploring downtown. Before arriving, it’s best to learn as much as you can about the island so you know what to expect.

Because you cannot drive to Mackinac Island, you will need alternate transportation to the island from any of the Vrbo vacation rentals listed. While there are a lot of places to choose from, we’ve selected some great options that are right on the water, offering great views and comfortable quarters. We hope you find the perfect spot to enjoy this beautiful Michigan getaway!

It was a lovely guest house. Plenty of room and very clean.
This was my first experience with renting a house, and I must say, It was an amazing experience! Beautiful setting, quiet, plenty of room, great property owner, and the list goes on!! I look forward to stay here again, as we make “up north” our go to vacation spot! This place had zero disappointments! They view from the beach, was truly amazing!
Was great, would recommend to others Could use some more privacy on windows, but over a great place to stay, close to the ferry terminal. Ray
What a lovely sojourn in St. Ignace with beautiful views of The Mackinac Bridge and Lake Huron. This slice of UP Paradise is very convenient to ferries crossing to Mackinaw Island. It is a literal breath of fresh air to arrive here after a day in the Mackinaw crowds. Susan is the perfect host….accessible, but unintrusive. The guest house is just lovely!
Definitely one of the cleanest and best appointed homes that we have rented. Lovely setting and will stay there again.

    Easy. Simple. Amazing!
This place is perfect for a couple looking to get away from the normal motel experience. Very comfortable and private. If you have more than one couple or a family looking for a nice place to stay, you could rent all three properties on the grounds.
Overall we were pretty happy there. A nice easy walk to town, and the Old fort, and Lighthouse just across the main bridge road. Very convenient. We felt it needed a few things to really stand out. The owners definitely put a lot of time and energy to remodel and create a cool environment, but it felt as if things have not been maintained over time in some areas, simple items that are easily taken care of. 1. A general deep cleaning, Baseboards, Outside Cob webs. Simple stuff and shows attention to detail. Ie.. There was 4 pillows, medium firm, but only had two pillow cases. The other 2 pillows were in plastic, and had some stains on them, no pillow cases for those two. I’ve never seen that before. We were bummed about that. 2. General maintenance is needed. Tub Grout and Caulk, Toilet handle.3. A newer Bed and Linens** would add to the feel of something more up scale considering todays high prices for everything. The Bed is Cozy at best, but really needs to be replaced. it’s time. I simply couldn’t get comfortable. Your mileage may vary though..4. A couple mouse traps might be in order as well, although to be fair you are staying in a cabin with that potential no matter where your at in upper Michigan. 5. Porch screens need some tending for small tears. 6. Some new bath rugs are desperately needed. They’re cheap these days.Even with all the I feel is needed, it’s still a nice place to stay, and enjoy Mackinaw and is worth the trip.
Very quaint, clean and cozy. Proximity to everything was great. Easy check-in and check-out. Loved it.
The cabin had everything you could want or need! We stopped by a market on our way in to grab groceries and cooked several meals very easily at the cabins. Hot water was instant and very hot which made washing and dishes easy. We loved the porch! Comfortable beds, clean bathroom, great location! Can’t ask for more and will be back!

From the moment our family entered the driveway we were all beyond excited to be staying on this beautiful property. The cabin was cute and cozy and had everything we could possibly need. I was hoping for great sunsets and they did not disappoint. If we decide to return to the area we would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend!
If your looking for somewhere that has a picturesque sunrise and sunset this is it. We loved the charm of the cabin. It was so relaxing, Being able watch the sunrise over the lake and have an evening bonfire during the sunset. We really enjoyed it! Even plan to stay again!
We needed a cozy spot to start and end each day as we toured the Upper Peninsula. This cabin was perfect for us.
Wonderful log cabin. Great location. Mary Jo was very easy to work with.
    Very nice and relaxing.

We had a wonderful family vacation. There were 6 adults and 4 children (5,3, and two one year olds). The property is well maintained and a great location. We keep our sailboat at Duncan Bay ((Cheboygan) every summer. This home allowed us to have all the family together at the same time.We enjoyed the beach every day. With little ones, we didn’t do day trips. We thoroughly enjoy Cheboygan and always visit the Children’s’ Trail and the Creation Station.
Our second visit to this property, it is large and clean and charming! great location, we will be back!
The property was even better than the pictures. The views were spectacular!!! The house was beautiful, super clean and fresh. They added great little touches like shampoo’s and a snack basket. It could not have been more welcoming. It was very well situation if you are interested in visiting the island. I cannot say enough good things about this property. You will not be disappointed!!!
This is the third year I have rented this property. It is a lovely property and always a very pleasant stay.
I would definitely stay here again. Very comfortable. The owner has thought of all the little necessary items.

Arrived on Friday. Left on Sunday. Had every necessary to live during the weekend. Close to everything that Mackinaw City has to offer. Would recommend staying here.
Great except for no paper towels/napkins. Great location.
This is a wonderful property. We had awful weather and the cottage was what made the trip! Thank you!
    So Cute!
We came up for our niece’s wedding. Weather was cold and windy. We used all of the blankets, but the space heater in the bedroom made all the difference. Our granddaughter (staying at the other cabin) enjoyed exploring the loft.

Absolutely lovely place to stay with a very beautiful view of Lake Huron! Our family enjoyed staying here and loved having fires on the beach looking across to Mackinaw Island and the Mackinaw Bridge lit up at night. Was amazing to drink coffee in the morning catching the sunrise and absorbing the continuous sounds of the waves. The sunsets are beautiful too! The house is cozy and inviting, lots of windows to look out at the lake and has all your needs! Big enough for your family to space out and plenty of tables to play board games or cards. It was clean and felt homey. We will definitely stay again! Thanks for a wonderful stay there for our first time in Michigan!! ❤️
Right on the water. Tremendous veiw. Yard was a little messy.
This is a beautiful place, location was excellent and the owner & property manager is great to work with. I would recommend an on-site vacuum to use, as we like to clean up after ourselves. I would highly recommend this rental, great family memories. Thank you. Ann & Steve
This quaint little home was cute as it could be. Loved the back sunroom with its many couches and the view from the firepit on the beach was amazing! We enjoyed swimming and just relaxing in the unusually warm weather in late September this year. You need water shoes to trek the rocky water and parking was a bit tight, but we loved it! It is high on our list of places to return to on our frequent trips “home”.
The house was well stocked with all the essentials and then some. Without A/C in the house we brought our own fans, but had we not, there were plenty of fans there at our disposal. Plenty of room for three families to have their own space to lay their heads at night. The beach was great! Beware that if you want to go into Lake Huron, you should bring water shoes as the lake bottom is ALL rocks, but the water is quite nice. Views of Mackinac island and the Bridge to the U.P. we’re always available. The only complaint our group had was about the three season porch. When we were inside, we usually spent out time our time out in the three season porch. There are plenty of windows to help catch a breeze and keep the place cool. HOWEVER, we were disappointed to find that maybe only half of the windows had screens on them. Our stay was great and we would absolutely stay here again, but would like to see all the windows have screens for next time.

I love this place and I going to back because every thing I found there. Thank you Tim.
This home had everything we needed. We’ll equipped, on a walkable beach with beautiful views.
The house was adorable and had great views. The beach was nice but it was too cold to swim at that time of the year. The owners live right next door so they are available to help if you have any issues. Overall it is a nice property.
My husband & I just stayed in the Cottage on Wilderness Trail and had a lovely time. The home is super clean and cozy with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We enjoyed the gorgeous panoramic view of the lake from inside the house and the spacious deck. The owners were great, and super accommodating. We will definitely return.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The sunset over the frozen lake our first night was beautiful as the stars and planets popped out in the twilight. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed and the kitchen was easy to cook in. The cottages are close together but the trees or so thick it feels private. The wifi worked perfectly. Next time we will bring our slippers because when temps got to -6 the floors were cold. Otherwise the wall furnace worked great. We did not mind the small shower as the shower head was tall enough for my husband. We’ll be back.

The view of Lake Huron is breathtaking, especially the sunsets! The house is cute and perfect for a lakeside cabin retreat. Convenient location. We made day trips to Lake Superior. St. Ignace, with the ferry to Mackinaw Island is only about 15 minutes away. Highly recommend!
What a beautiful property with a gorgeous view. Very awesome people to work answer all my questions since we were coming from 4 hours away with trailers wanting to make sure we had room to park. Can’t beat the view waking up early setting on the deck watching the sun comes up on the lake.
We highly recommend this property. The house was clean and well kept and the view from the covered porch facing the water was unbeatable! It’s close to many attractions like the Soo Locks, Mackinac Island, St. Ignace. Plenty of room for a family or two!
We enjoyed our stay. Nice location and a great view!

Peaceful property, fantastic view, basically private beach!
The Sommerset Lake house and setting was splendid all around! Mark was so kind and generous with his time and communications…what an incredible week of Lake Michigan fun and sunsets! Thank you so for such a remarkably clean, well-stocked, and comfortable home and string!! We hope to return and share with family!
What an amazing cottage and beach. Truly the best I’ve experienced in Northern Michigan! My son couldn’t stop thanking me for bringing him here!
Beautiful cottage steps away from Lake Michigan was just what we were looking for. Quiet, sandy beach. Enjoyed the home’s amenities like the hammock, the grill out on the deck, and the camp fire on the beach. Enjoyed making s’mores and looking at the stars. Great place to enjoy Northern Michigan.

This cottage was a wonderful retreat after a full day of exploring the area. Beautifully appointed. Screened porch was a great bonus. Well done!
We had a blast staying here for a long weekend! The house was easy to find, clean, and had everything we needed. It was close enough to downtown that we could have walked if we wanted to. We also loved the fire pit and the screened in porch would have been so nice to use during warmer weather nights.
The cottage was cozy and the perfect place to stay for our trip to Mackinaw City. It was an easy bike ride to the ferry to Mackinac Island. It was close to another bike trail the North Central Bike Trail, which we enjoyed a ride on. The screened in porch was lovely and due to the rain we had when we stayed, it was God send. It was close enough to easily walk to town and the fort but far enough away to be quiet. Also had restaurants that were with a block or two. It was clean and the furnishing were nice. We enjoyed staying there. It is a very intimate space and was great for my husband and I to spend some time together. Since it was raining a lot, we spent more time in the cabin and it was a good size for us. I could also see how this property with the other two cabins would work wonderfully for a larger group.
Quite neighborhood, close to everything we needed. Comfy, clean cottage. Enjoyed my morning coffee while watching the squirrels chase each other around.
Excellent location and very clean. Very relaxing sitting around the campfire in the evenings. The hosts were very accommodating and excellent communication. Definitely will stay here again!

This nicely decorated fully equipped condo is within a 10 minute walk or 2 minute bike ride to the part of Main Street where most of the shops and restaurants are located. It’s far enough away from all of that hustle bustle to be relaxing and peaceful Easy to see why Tina is a “Superhost”. Communication and check-in/check-out process was very easy. She personally met us, helped with luggage and showed us around. She went above and beyond, even bought us an indoor grill since grilling outside is not allowed. The condo is located on the 3rd floor ( top floor) with fabulous views of the Mack Bridge, Lighthouse and Straits. The two bikes she provided made the stay perfect!
    Perfect!

Tiffany’s was perfect in every way. Location could not have been better. Convenient to anything and everything. The studio was up-kept nicely, clean and tastefully decorated. We loved our stay!
    It was wonderful.
This charming gem was the perfect place to come back to after many different day trips of sightseeing in both the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan! A few hundred yards to the water, ferry docks and sweet village shops makes it the perfect location. A few days were spent just resting/relaxing in this impeccably clean, well-furnished studio apartment with classic decor that speaks to the history and charm of the area! Walks to the “Big Mac” bridge/lighthouse (both a.m. and p.m. for the lights!) along the historic pathway on Lake Huron was an invigorating and peaceful highlight of each day! Terry, our host, was so kind and attentive when we texted or called with a few questions. We give rave reviews to he and his wife for sharing this lovely get-away with us for 12 glorious days! We will be back!
