9 Incredible Tuscan Villas You Can Rent In Italy

    William Stupp
    Updated: March 08, 2022

Centuries ago, the Tuscan countryside was dotted with farming estates and fortifications. The same is true today thanks to Italy’s remarkable efforts to preserve its history. The structures remain but their purposes have changed (though many of the villas here still boast olive trees and other sources of agricultural wealth).

    Videos by TravelAwaits

Many agree that Italy is the best country in the world to vacation in. All its provinces are wonderful, but Tuscany has won many plaudits over the years as the country’s most appealing region. This is thanks to its beautiful landscapes, enduring cuisine, and many charming cities and towns.

Florence, its largest city, was the center of the Renaissance, a legacy that lives on through the city’s architecture and museums. Siena is similarly a beautiful medieval city with many a fine restaurant featuring truffles. Though most famous for its faulty tower, Pisa has many a sight for guests to pore over. But beyond these, there exist dozens of lesser-known towns filled with excellent examples of Italian architecture and slices of history and culture (slices of the culinary sort are particularly delectable).

Relatively small, all of Tuscany is reachable by car from any corner of the region, so a villa in Pisa doesn’t preclude a day in the mountains. Tuscany is worth visiting any time of year, but don’t expect a warm Tuscan sun should you come in winter. Spring and early fall are the most pleasant seasons and therefore the busiest.

To prepare you for the trip of a lifetime, here is a list of eight Tuscany villas you can rent on Vrbo. Covering a geographic and stylistic range, there’s something for everyone on this list, as of course there is in Tuscany itself.

    Villa Maestrale$1,062.12/nightly avg

A hidden circle of paradise in an already heavenly land, Villa Maestrale is a coastal villa ready to take your breath away. The property is surrounded by over 2 square miles of private gardens beyond which lies a much larger nature reserve. A pebble beach awaits at the end of a private path. The estate is shared with a second villa of equal stature, but there is plenty of room for everyone.

Guests are encouraged to arrange for a boat trip to the nearby islands so as not to miss out on the fact that Tuscany is beautiful by land and sea. The home is furnished in a modern style but full of timeless Italian flourishes, namely the beautiful marble gracing the bathrooms and countertops.

    Le Valle$1,700/nightly avg

Dating back to the 16th century, this lovingly restored villa promises guests an unforgettable exploration of the Italian way of life as well as the Tuscan countryside. The property consists of a former farm and watch tower which, in days past, were associated with the local castle. It is a mere 12 miles from Florence.

The historic structure is complimented with extravagant traditional furnishings, with an emphasis on 18th-century antiques. Modern elements have been added, including a steam shower and outdoor pool. From the marbled bathrooms to the rich decorative fabrics, the home is a showcase of the material beauty of Europe. There is natural beauty as well, seen throughout the villa’s grounds and in the views of the surrounding countryside.

Le Valle is nothing short of magical. You feel the familiar comfort of being at home while at the same being pampered and cared for by the wonderful hosts, Lucia and Santiago. The view, the villa, the grounds, the pool(!), and the vibe were second to none and surpassed all our dreams. The best meals we had during our 2 week European adventure were created by Fabrizio. He is not only a world class chef, but a world class human being. Would love to come back again. Highly recommend.
Everything about this beautiful property was perfect for our group of family and friends. The villa and guest house are appointed for comfort and enjoyment. (Coffee lovers in our group were delighted to start each day with cappuccinos brewed in the professional espresso machine!) We rotated among the four outdoor eating locations, enjoying the views of olive groves, the Tuscan hills, and the sun setting behind the nearby castle. Caretakers Santiago and Lucia ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our week and we loved our welcome dinner and pizza making class with chef Fabrizio. The location allowed for easy trips into Florence and the surrounding countryside. We had very active days, and days spent on site, hiking the trail that surrounds the villa and lounging by the pool. (The pool was especially popular with our tweens, as was the chess set!) Le Valle more than lives up to the reviews and the description you’ll find here. It was the centerpiece of a fantastic Tuscan experience.
Gorgeous property with all the comforts of home. Santiago and Lucia were phenomenal caretakers all week of our family and the property. The owners are extremely responsive and have thought through almost anything you could need while staying here. Loved the La Marzocco espresso machine as well! Thank you!
So many great things to say about Le Valle. Leading up to our stay, Barry and Jody were frequent contact, providing detailed information about the house and surrounding area. They were quick to respond to any question and gave well informed recommendations for restaurants, wineries, activities, and even parking in Florence! On the day of arrival, Santiago and Lucia, the property caretakers were there to meet us and give us the grand tour. A welcome dinner provided by chef Fabrizio was the perfect finish to our arrival day as he is both affable and a skilled chef. The property itself is located about 30 minutes from Florence and within approximately an hour of many notable towns like Siena and Volterra. The house is away from the hustle and bustle of Florence and basically in the countryside near Strada in Chianti. The house and guest house are as advertised and depicted in the listing. There entire property was ours and included a fantastic pool and multiple outdoor areas to relax. Wood burning pizza oven? Yep. Garden with countless tomatoes, basil, lettuce available to pick and eat? Yep. Plum tree with tasty fruit? Of course. The kitchen is well equipped including a top of the line espresso maker to provide the best espresso you could ask for. All the bed rooms have air conditioners and the guest house living room is also air conditioned. The main house living areas were cool enough even in the middle of the summer heat wave if you strategically kept the doors and windows closed during the middle of the day and opened the windows in the evenings. Santiago and Lucia were super friendly and always available for any issues. They provided basic cleaning and trash removal on most days. If you want to truly immerse yourself in storybook Tuscany, this is the place to go. Thanks to Barry and Jody for sharing their incredible estate!
When we rented La Valle we had high expectations based on the property description and it’s multiple 5 star reviews. But as we drove through the imposing gates and down the long winding driveway we knew that this property was going to vastly exceed our expectations. As we got out of our cars we were met by the “welcoming committee” who gave us refreshments and introduced us to the property. We were literally without words. The house and gardens were impeccable maintained and they are jaw dropping gorgeous. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. The housekeeper, Valeria, was such a pleasure to be around she was so helpful. Fabricio the chef, who cooked our welcome meal, was nothing short of a exceptional. In fact that meal was so delicious and the experience so wonderful that we hired him to come back to cook for us later in the week. While at the property we were kept busy swimming in the beautiful marble-lined swimming pool, at the pizza oven, playing ping-pong, and taking hikes. The information that the owners left for us was so helpful. We were able to take wonderful day trips throughout the Chianti region, we visited several wineries and the cities of Pisa, Luca, Siena and Florence. But the best part was always coming back home to La Valle. And e e plan to come back again soon. We give this very special property our highest recommendation!!

My husband and I couldn’t have been happier staying at Stefania’s house outside of Lucca. Everything worked out perfectly for us for our week’s stay. The location is great. The house is in a very residential and quiet neighborhood, but an easy drive to all food stores and services you might need. And only about a 15 minute drive into Lucca, where you can park just outside the walls and walk all over that lovely city. Plus of course Pisa, the sea, and all the other delights of visiting Tuscany. The house itself is charming, with an open plan living room/dining room/kitchen downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs. Everything in the house is nicely decorated but it’s also very comfortable. The living room seating is comfortable, with good reading lights, the bed and pillows are super-comfortable (we slept so well) and the outdoor chairs for sitting in the garden are also comfortable for relaxing in the late day sun after a day of sightseeing. Which brings me to the garden, which is pretty much the highlight of the property. The grounds are beautiful with space to sit in the sun or shaded under the pergola where there is a dining table. There is also a lovely pool, but it wasn’t the season for using a pool when we were there in April. I imagine the pool is a huge benefit for people who stay in the summer. And finally the owner, Stefania, was really great. She was very helpful before we arrived with advice on restaurants and even made us reservations. And she checked on us regularly during the week to make sure everything was going well. And it always was, because her place is so well maintained and instructions very clear. You can’t go wrong renting this home.
We couldn’t be happier for having chosen to stay at Stefania’s beautiful traditional cottage in Capannori . We stayed for a month for a working holiday and found it very comfortable with all amenities available – kitchen, wifi, bathroom, heating, etc. The garden is an absolute dream, even though we stayed here during winter… imagine in summer!! Stefania is a very welcoming and responsive host, and did everything to make sure we had an amazing stay – thank you! She also made a very valid recommendation regarding our means of heating the house in order to manage the cost, which we found very helpful – we definitely recommend making the most of the fireplace as much as possible! The location was just right for a quiet holiday close to the city (10-15 mins from Lucca and close enough to other great places which we had the privilege of visiting, including Chianti, Florence, Prato, Pistoia and others). Baker, butcher, supermarket are only a short drive away. Staying at the Pennecchio was a dream and it was a pity we had to leave, but will definitely highly recommend it and hope to stay here again some day 🙂
We had a brilliant stay in this, well-equipped , traditionally renovated Tuscan cottage (brilliant, new fridge-freezer). It’s extremely clean and we appreciated the enormous, well fenced, secure garden for our dogs, who loved it here. You do need a car but it is very well situated to visit Lucca, Pisa and Florence. Stefania is very friendly, easily contactable, extremely efficient and an amazing host. Nothing was too much trouble, which was especially invaluable in these Covid times. The house is in a small hamlet but the neighbours are very friendly. We stayed during the winter period and made a lot of use of the wonderful log burner. We were in lockdown for some of the time so it was useful to have plenty of walking straight from the house onto the Route de Ville, which had some beautiful houses to admire. We would highly recommend the villa for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. We hope to return very soon. Grazie mille Stefania, a presto.
Stefania was an amazing and very helpful host throughout the whole trip. The house was equally great and very enjoyable: the garden with the olive trees was the highlight: perfectly fenced for dogs and beautiful to look at, while snacking on olives and drinking in the shade of the pergola. Highly recommended.
Stefania is a fantastic host kept us informed throughout, the whole process was very smooth, the house and garden are great everthing you need ,there are lots of books and info on surrounding places to visit, you definitely need a car as nothing in walking distance, its very quite and peaceful and relaxing, beds are comfy lots of extra bedding and quilts if needed, it was nice to sit out under the pergola and eat with a few drinks, even when it was raining. Altogether its a lovely villa and grounds would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Tuscany and the surrounding areas.

    Villa Tantafera$1,242.32/nightly avg

On a hill overlooking Florence sits Villa Tantafera, a residence whose charms stem from its origins in the 15th century. The estate consists of 5 acres of terraced gardens dotted with fountains, centuries-old olive trees, and beautiful lemon trees. The home boasts high ceilings and a delightful mix of contemporary and classic design (the kitchen is built to modern tastes while the living areas and bedrooms trend toward the rustic glamor Tuscany is famous for). The home has seven bedrooms, five of which have king or queen beds (the remaining pair are smaller and more suitable for younger guests).

Florence’s cathedral is magnificent from afar just as it is up close. Guests will discover this as they look out on the city below and spy the great dome rising from the city.

Roberto was fantastic. The home was absolutely stunning. Would definitely go back.
Everything about the property was spectacular. I would go back in a minute.
We stayed at the Villa as our launching off point for our family vacation in Tuscany. The location is wonderful with a hilltop vista view of Florence. The property itself is a remarkable building dating back to the mid-1400s that has renovated to modern standards. The architecture of the Villa is stunning complete with frescos dating back to the 15th century, a well-appointed kitchen and the conveniences of a modern villa including wifi, ac, a pool and a hot-tub. Roberto could not have been more helpful with the check in process, recommendations for local chefs and the various questions we had during our stay. I highly recommend this property.

We loved our stay there… we had our daughters wedding there… And absolute fairytale! We couldn’t of been happier with the house and the service that was provided… This is somewhere we would come again and definitely refer! ❤️

This Tuscan villa is so beautiful and cozy. What a delight! We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate you taking the time to share your rating with us! We hope to see you back in Tuscany!
The Villa is a true Italian experience, matches the photos, a relaxed home from home. Add to that the benefit of Fattoria Sardi wine farm next door! For a large party, this was invaluable for two large dinners, plus staff to assist. The best pizza night, and a glorious wedding feast. Also, to have available wine on your doorstep, could not fault any, our stay was a treat! Highly recommended.
We were an extended family of 15 with 8 adults and 7 children (ages 8-15). The house was lovely, the bedrooms remarkably cool during the hottest summer in 100 years. Everyone I dealt with from booking to check-out was prompt and helpful. The staff at the winery were likewise amazing. It was an easy drive into Lucca. I would happily recommend Villa Renaissance and Lucca Apartment Rentals. I hope to have a future occasion to return.
The setting in a vineyard is perfect for a visit to Toscana. We enjoyed the dining room and sitting room where all twelve of us could gather together comfortably. All the outdoor areas were comfortable and beautiful. We loved the Fattoria Sardi next door and had a wonderful afternoon there with lunch and wine pairings. The wine is amazing and I would recommend my favorite the Rose. The location is perfect, only a ten minute drive from Lucca. All the bedrooms are large and comfortable. It is a comfortably lived in family Villa that feels like one is living between the past and present with all the wonders of both.

    The Villas At Burlamacchi$2,158.15/nightly avg

A pair as storied and grandiose as Romulus and Remus, the twin villas at Burlamacchi promise guests a vacation like no other. Tucked away on the edge of Tuscany in the mountains bordering Emilia-Romagna, the villas are incredible in every sense. One dates from the 15th century; the other is a creation of the Victorian age.

The estate is a short walk from the local village which, though small, is big on charm and has a number of restaurants and shops, the latter being more important for most guests as the villa comes with a private chef ready to instruct visitors’ palettes on the wonders of Italian cuisine. The home also boasts verdant gardens and a spa area with a sauna and massage facilities. Given the size, the home has a wide range of bedrooms suitable for various arrangements of guests.

I rented Bulamacchi Villa for a surprise birthday party for my husband’s 70th birthday. Our children and their families joined in planning the surprise and arrived at the Villa early to hang the Buon Compleanno signs. In total, we were a group of 12. The stay exceeded our expectations. Francesca and her amazing staff helped us create a family memory that will live for generations. From the amazing views to the extraordinary dinners prepared by Chef and wine served each evening outside, the experience was unforgettable. Our family stayed at the Villa for a week. Francesca helped me arrange daily activities for the family, from a day trip to the Cinque Terre to a pasta-making class on-site, and more, Francesca was the perfect host. The property itself is stunning, all of the bedrooms are tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms. The outdoor area, pool, and bar created the perfect backdrop for our family to gather for cocktails before dinner each evening. If you have a group and want to create an Italian experience that will build lifetime memories, I highly recommend Bulamacchi Villas. My family is already asking when we can go back!
Two families, (13 of us) one week,. This property is spectacular. Recently renovated the rooms, bathrooms are beautiful. Francesca looked after us, from meals to vineyards to dinners out, trust her recommendations. We needed babysitting and drivers, she was on it. With an honor system bar we enjoyed our time relaxing around the pool. This is a full service property, feels like your own private resort. We greatly hope to be back in the near future.
This is by far the best property I’ve ever stayed at. 5 stars all the way! Francesca is an amazing host. The property is gorgeous! The chef prepared what was the best food we ate while in Italy. I can’t say enough good things about our stay. I highly recommend and plan to return. Thank you Francesca for making our stay so fantastic. You and your staff went above and beyond to take excellent care of us. I look forward to returning in the future.
We had the most amazing family vacation! The property was just perfect for our group of 17. We loved hanging out at the beautiful pool and chilling under the covered outdoor bar area. The house itself was amazing and everyone loved having there own bathroom! Francesca was amazing! She helped us set up some amazing excursions and responded quickly to any questions we had. We opted to have the house chef cook for us on 3 nights and I would highly recommend that! The food was amazing!!!!!!!!!I would highly recommend this property the beauty of the area was amazing and it was a short drive to many beautiful places. We hope to return!
This a special place, if you are looking for beauty, history, scenery views, peace, good place to spend with the family and friends, this is your place.Francesca is the best host you will ever meet.I highly recommend this place.

    Villa Outside Siena$530/nightly avg

Fewer than 5 miles from the incomparable medieval city of Siena, this serene villa offers guests a taste of the good life, a way of being once open only to the most privileged of nobles. Enjoy the grace of life on a country estate while residing within a short drive of one of Tuscany’s brightest urban jewels. (Florence, the obvious rival to Siena’s claim of being the pinnacle of charm, is about an hour away by car or train).

A restored haybarn, the property is a reminder of the site’s agricultural past, still visible today on any stroll through the verdant grounds. Inside it is a beautiful mix of wooden frames and stone walls. During the remodeling process, special care was taken to ensure each of the five bedrooms gets its share of natural light (great views come in with the light, of course).

Wonderful villa for 8 adults. Great location for day trips and beautiful views.
This property exceeded our expectations. The villa is lovely. Every bedroomHas nice a size bathroom that is updated. The living space is large and comfortable. It is well stocked for your every need. The owner worked with us ahead of time to coordinate wine tasting and cooking class… both fabulous. They were very responsive to every need including being wood for the fireplace. I would 100% recommend renting this beautiful home!
We did enjoy our stay at the villa. Pictures shows exactly what you are paying for. If there’s something that I can mention even if it’s not a deal breaker, the mattress was a little bit too soft for us and there was a LOT of ants around the exterior doors. After telling it to the lady who welcome us, she sprayed the surrounding so it was mostly controlled. A lot of dog barking around at night (I understand that this is something difficult to control for the owner…)
This property was even better than the pictures. The rooms were spacious and perfect for our group of 6 friends. We enjoyed the outdoor areas, and sat on the patio or at the pool everyday. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked several times during our stay. The location was beautiful, close to the grocery store, several restaurants and Siena. We would definitely rent again!
Was a beautiful property however too far from sights we wanted to see and driving was difficult. Next time would stay in a city.

Guests will enjoy stunning views of the countryside from atop the hill on which the villa sits. The grounds, though small, boast gardens, olive trees, and a beautiful pool.

Marco’s villa was the best villa we experienced in Italy. We were a family of 4 adults and 3 children, this property can definitely accommodate 9 persons. The property was clean well equipped and in a very good condition. It was clear that Marco wanted to provide us great experience. The view down to the valley is amazing. Marco gave us great recommendation for transportation, dinner options day trip and wineries. Marco that was great to meet a host who is so interested in the satisfaction of his guests, we definitely will come again.
Marco Viti’s villa in Buti is superb, the setting is beautiful with views down into the valley, it is thoughtfully and beautifully furnished, with a well equipped kitchen and a fabulous wood-fired outdoor oven. The pool and outdoor sitting and dining areas are terrific. A beautiful place.
My family and I had the BEST vacation in Buti/the Tuscany area and Marco was such an excellent host. The property was clean, beautiful and the pictures honestly don’t do it justice! Marco was great at communicating and gave us the best recommendations from dinner spots to day trips and wineries. I also HIGHLY recommend asking Marco about the in-home chef for your stay – we booked two nights of this and chef Daniella & her team were absolutely fabulous and gave us such an authentic Italian experience. The second we arrived we already talked about booking again! Thank you for the greatest experience Marco – such a memorable family vacation.
Great location and a perfect property
This is one of the best properties we have stayed at! So comfortable, well equipped, amazing views, great pool! I don’t have anything negative to say. The hosts were lovely, communication very good and prompt, it was a lovely relaxing week in a beautiful place.

I cannot say enough good things about this property and host. Davide was amazing and very easy to communicate with, he also provided links for things to do and went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. The house was very spacious, clean & had the most amazing view of the town. Location was great as we could easily walk to anything we needed but felt secluded enough we could have some privacy. The house has so much charm & is very beautiful inside, all of the amenities were provided. This would really be a fantastic home base for a longer trip where you took day trips out to other towns.
Great location! 10 minute walk to Montipulciano or you can drive 2 minutes and park at the entrance. Less than an hour drive to Pienza, Cortona, Monticiano, Arezzo. 5 minutes to DEI Winery on our street! Very very clean home. Incredible views!! Next to olive grows and vineyards. Grocery store just up the street. Davide was terrific! He text us multiple times during our stay to check on us. There is a washer and separate dryer. We stayed 17 days and had a wonderful time!!
The stay outside Montepulciano was what we wanted..outside the village but close enough to walk! There were 5, 3 were my daughters and 1 of their friends..absolutely perfect! Walked into the village every day..found fantastic places to eat and walked home in the evenings to enjoy the view and quietness of the Tuscan countryside!!! Would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!!!!
This beautiful house was a perfect place to stay in Montepuluciano. Very quiet and private yet within walking distance to the village, restaurants and groceries . We love this area. A perfect place to sit back and enjoy Dolce Vita, or explore wonderful towns like Orvieto, San Gimingamo or Assisi.Davide was more than helpful and welcoming. The bottle of local wine on the table for us was a lovely thought. The house is beautifully restored, spotless clean and has everything you need. Loved our stay here. Thank you Davide.
A wonderful week in Montepulciano! This cosy house is well appointed and is in a fabulous location. Davide was very helpful for the duration of our stay, and we visited his family winery, which was great.
