If you don’t know what to get your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day, low-cost Icelandic airline PLAY has a suggestion.
“Instead of getting ‘stuff’ that may never get used or worn, why not show an extra element of thoughtfulness by planning a trip tailored to that special someone’s favorite places, activities, and foods?” PLAY told TravelAwaits. “Go beyond a box of chocolates to show your sweetheart that you care — and take a trip to Europe with PLAY.”
What’s even better and easier on the checking account, is that to celebrate Valentine’s Day, PLAY is offering 20 percent off its fares during what the airline calls its Valentine’s Day Deal. The sale begins February 5 and runs through February 10, 2023.
“To celebrate love this year, PLAY is offering a Valentine’s Day deal that is sure to sweep your partner off of their feet,” Nadine Guðrún Yaghi, director communications and service at PLAY, told TA in an exclusive interview. “The 20 percent off deal for flights to Europe allows travelers to spend less on airfare and splurge instead on the experiences that will make the trip memorable.”
Don’t know where to go? PLAY still has you covered.
Anyone looking for a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift for their sweetheart can give their significant other a PLAY gift card. Then they can use the card to book future travel with PLAY or even use it for snacks and a beverage onboard a PLAY flight.
How PLAY’s Special Deal Works
PLAY’s Valentine’s Day Deal begins February 5 and runs through February 10, 2023.
Importantly, you’ll need to remember that the deal is only valid for flights between February 5 and May 31, 2023, or between September 1 and October 31, 2023.
You’ll need to use the promo code PLAYLOVE when you book the flights to get the Valentine’s Day Deal price.
Travelers can book flights from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, New York Stewart International Airport, and Washington Dulles International to 24 European destinations, including Iceland, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Dublin, Berlin, and Stockholm.
You can see current fares and all destinations on PLAY’s booking engine.
All About PLAY
If you aren’t familiar with PLAY, it may be because the airline, which enables passengers to “pay less, play more,” was founded in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2019. It then began service across Europe in June 2021, operating seven routes to five countries — including service to Paris, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Barcelona.
PLAY’s first U.S. flight, on April 20, 2022, departed from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport bound for Iceland. The airline then expanded U.S. operations by also offering service from Boston, followed by New York, then Dulles International Airport, near Washington, D.C.
In 2022, almost 800,000 passengers flew on more than 5,400 PLAY flights. In December alone, PLAY carried 74,620 passengers, which is more than four times the number of passengers who flew PLAY flights in December 2021.
“We close an eventful 2022 with very robust traffic numbers, which show that PLAY is absolutely on the right track to becoming a force to be reckoned with in our focus markets,” Birgir Jónsson, PLAY’s CEO, said in a statement. “It fills me with enthusiasm to see that we achieved a higher load factor in December than the airlines we compare ourselves with, and at the same time, our punctuality is world-class.”
