Get off the beaten path this summer and maybe you’ll win a prize. West Virginia tourism officials are launching a new Waterfall Trail and offering prizes to get the word out.
Waterfall Trail
The trail covers some well-known waterfalls, like Blackwater and Sandstone, but also some not-so-obvious choices, like Drawdy and Finn. There are 29 waterfalls in total to explore this summer.
“Breathtaking waterfalls are everywhere in our 1.5 million acres of parks and public lands, making this trail a must-experience activity for adventure-seekers this summer,” West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby said in a statement announcing the trail.
The Waterfall Trail features just a fraction of the waterfalls in West Virginia. With more than 200 waterfalls, this new trail is intended to get travelers off the beaten path to explore different parts of the state. There is information about each waterfall on the state’s travel website.
A Chance At Prizes
West Virginian officials are launching the trail as research shows more travelers wanting to be outside and explore nature. And to kick off the initiative, the state is incentivizing you to check out the Waterfall Trail by offering exclusive prizes. Just sign up for a digital passport online by entering your contact information. You will then get your passport delivered to your phone. Anytime you visit a waterfall on the trail, log in and check it off the list! The more waterfalls you visit, the bigger the prizes. You’ll earn a sticker for visiting three waterfalls, a water bottle for ten visits, and an official waterfall t-shirt after 20 visits. The digital passport can also help you plan your trips to each location.
