Southwest Airlines is dramatically increasing flights to two California cities, as well as boosting connections on the Hawaiian islands and between Florida and Cuba.
The airline announced a slew of flight additions this week, primarily boosting regional service to both San Diego and San Jose.
“For a gamut of travelers seeking business opportunity, faraway fun, or family time, these new routes and additional flights put the hospitality and value of Southwest Airlines in front of more of our customers,” Andrew Watterson, Southwest’s executive vice president and CCO, said in a release.
California Routes
Southwest is already the airline with the most service in California, and those numbers are about to go up.
Starting June 5, the airline will fly on weekdays between San Diego and Sacramento up to 20 times each way, between San Diego and San Jose up to 20 times each way, and between San Diego and Oakland up to 14 times each way.
Service to and from San Jose will also get boosted, with flights between the city and Orange County up to 10 times each way, between San Jose and Las Vegas up to 13 times each way, and between San Jose and Long Beach up to four times each way.
Southwest will also increase San Jose service to the Pacific Northwest, with flights to Seattle and Portland up to six times a day, and to Boise and Spokane, Washington, up to twice a day. It will also add a new daily flight to Eugene, Oregon.
“For the summer and fall, we’ve given San Jose customers more flights on California short-haul business routes, and into Las Vegas,” said Adam Decaire, vice president of network planning. “Based on currently published schedules, Southwest offers more service between Silicon Valley and the Northwest than any other carrier.”
One other California route is being added, with daily service between Sacramento and Santa Barbara starting June 5.
Hawaii Service
Southwest is also making major increases in its service between the Hawaiian islands, including new daily service between Maui and Kauai.
Other increases include eight daily flights each way between Honolulu and Maui, jumping to 11 times in September; five daily flights between Honolulu and Hilo starting in September; five daily flights between Honolulu and Kona on the island of Hawaii in June, jumping to six in September; five daily flights between Honolulu and Kauai, jumping to six in September; and twice daily flights between Maui and Kona all summer.
Cuba Service
Southwest is also boosting its flights into Havana. Starting May 4, the airline will offer three daily round trips between Havana and Fort Lauderdale, up from the current offering. It will also add a new round-trip flight on Saturday, as well.
Flights for any Southwest route can now be booked as far out as November 5, according to the airline.
“We recently extended our flight schedule to early November, and we’re making available new service sooner for planning early summertime journeys,” Watterson said.
