New York’s official tourism marketing group is hoping to lure visitors to the city with a special deal on Off-Broadway shows during the final 2 weeks of February.
Tickets are on sale now for NYC Off-Broadway Week, with two-for-one tickets available for 17 different shows from February 14–27.
The shows run a wide range of styles and budgets, from big-time musicals like Jersey Boys to magic shows to comedy like the Blue Man Group.
This is the 13th year the event has been held in conjunction with the Off-Broadway League.
“Since 2009, NYC Off-Broadway Week has encouraged New Yorkers and visitors alike to experience the world of theater in an intimate setting with beloved stories and often groundbreaking work,” Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company, told Insider Travel Report. “Now in our 13th year, we’re excited to reintroduce an array of amazing productions. From kid-friendly favorites to irreverent comedies and timely social topics, the program offers something for everyone.”
A complete list of shows, available dates, and the chance to purchase tickets can be found on the Off-Broadway Week website. Organizers encourage early booking to avoid sellouts.
Available shows as part of the deal include:
- Blue Man Group
- Tambo & Bones
- Jersey Boys
- Stomp
- Barococo
- The Office! A Musical Parody
- La Dama Boba
- Perfect Crime
- The Play That Goes Wrong
- Beauty and the Beast
- Space Dogs
- Prayer for the French Republic
- Monday Night Magic at Players Theatre
- English
- Out of Time
- Sandblasted
- On Sugarland
There is a two-ticket minimum purchase to take advantage of the deal. Even though it is a 2-for-1 promotion, tickets will actually be sold at half-price. That allows people to buy an odd number of seats and still take advantage of the program.
The discounted rate also applies to select performances of each show and select dates, which vary from show to show.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with NYC & Company on NYC Off-Broadway Week to introduce New Yorkers and our global community to Off-Broadway,” said Casey York, president of the Off-Broadway League. “The biannual program brings in new audiences to experience a variety of unique shows onstage in an intimate setting.”
Many theater-goers prefer Off-Broadway shows over the big theater Broadway productions. The plays and musicals tend to be more intimate and the ticket prices much less expensive.
“Off-Broadway shows offer thrilling entertainment throughout New York City,” New York’s marketing agency says. “These plays, musicals, dramas, and comedies can provide an intimate night out for those who want to see first-rate talent at wallet-friendly prices.
“And since the shows tend toward the new and innovative, you never know if you’re going to be watching the next big hit.”
