PLAY, a low-cost airline currently operating flights between Iceland and Europe, has announced service in the United States, with its first flights to Europe taking off in spring 2022.
Starting today, travelers can book tickets on PLAY from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to 22 European destinations.
The European flights will all layover in Iceland at Keflavik Airport (KEF), the country’s main hub for international transportation. “Bags will be checked all the way through [to the final European destination]. In Iceland, [passengers] only have to go through passport control and move between gates,” said a company spokesperson.
Flight service from Baltimore will begin on April 20, 2022, and service from Boston will begin on May 11, 2022.
Certain European Destinations Are $109 One-Way
To celebrate its inaugural flights from the United States, PLAY is offering travelers tickets for as low as $109 to 11 European destinations:
- Berlin Brandenburg, Germany (BER)
- Brussels, Belgium (BRU)
- Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH)
- Dublin, Ireland (DUB)
- Gothenburg-Landvetter, Sweden (GOT)
- Keflavik, Iceland (KEF)
- London Stansted, England (STN)
- Paris-Charles de Gaulle, France (CDG)
- Stavanger, Norway (SVG)
- Stuttgart, Germany (STR)
- Trondheim, Norway (TRD)
The discounted price is valid for the U.S. departure flight of a roundtrip booking for travel scheduled between May and June 2022 or August and October 2022.
PLAY is offering the $109 deal today through December 24 at midnight Eastern Time.
Checked Baggage And Seat Selection Cost Extra
PLAY, which has operated in Europe since July 2021, is so named because the airline allows travelers to pay less and “play more.” It offers no-frills service without costly features such as magazines, Wi-Fi, or in-flight entertainment.
As is typical for budget airlines, fares may be inexpensive, but your ticket price will increase if you choose to carry-on or check luggage or if you’d like a guaranteed seat assignment.
Optional fees are listed on the PLAY website. The least expensive fees are charged if you add and pay for services at the time you book your flight. If you wait until after booking or until you are at the airport, the optional baggage and seat-selection fees will increase.
“Rather than spending on travel extras, PLAY passengers can instead allocate their budget on the meaningful experiences, dining, and excursions that make a trip memorable — or even add a stop to another destination along the way,” noted a press release.
To date, PLAY has flown more than 87,500 passengers across Europe with an on-time arrival rate of over 96 percent. PLAY currently operates a COVID-19 Flexibility Policy that allows for booking changes and cancelations.
