The excitement about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser resort at Walt Disney World continues to build as the resort releases more details. After all, it is intended to be what Disney calls an “immersive experience” where “you and your group will embark on a first-of-its-kind Star Wars adventure that’s your own.”
While they are on the Halcyon starcruiser, one of the highlights for guests is sure to be the lightsaber training sessions. Disney explains that guests over the age of seven will be able to learn to use a lightsaber during this interactive activity which will be “far beyond anything you’ve experienced before.”
When guests participate in the lightsaber training, “they’ll finally know what it’s like to feel the Force and wield a lightsaber as they square off against a training remote, similar to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope,” Jeremy Schoolfield, managing editor with Walt Disney World Resort Public Relations, further explained in a Disney Parks Blog.
All other details about the lightsaber training have been kept secret — until now.
A Lightsaber Training Demo
D23 is the Official Disney Fan Club. Each year there is a fan event called Destination D23, which is like a convention for Disney fans so they can listen to speakers, learn about upcoming projects and events, and even glean some behind-the-scenes info.
This year’s event, which was held last week, included a special treat for attendees. Josh D’Amaro, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products chairman, gave everyone a sneak peek at what the lightsaber training will look like.
In the video, you can see that D’Amaro is training using a wall-mounted turret. It appears that the turret shoots beams of light that are then disabled when D’Amaro’s lightsaber “slices” through them, which perhaps also mimics parrying an opponent’s lightsaber attacks. The pace then quickens to further test D’Amaro’s reflexes.
Other Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Activities
Each stay at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser also includes what’s called “bridge training, where the ship’s crew will explain ‘how the navigation, power, defense, and other critical systems keep the Halcyon Starcruiser safe from unforeseen galactic entanglements,’” Disney explains.
“These skills may even come in handy should critical situations arise later.”
There’s even an excursion to the remote planet Batuu for a visit to the Black Spire Outpost. Foreshadowing events in the interactive activities, Disney explains that “your missions throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — including your adventures on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — will influence events back on the starcruiser.”
