Something’s brewing! Or definitely will be on Wednesday, September 29, when coffee retailers around the country observe National Coffee Day, paying homage to the brew that starts many of our days.
This celebration unofficially began in 2005, but really caught on after 2014 when the International Coffee Organization (ICO) declared October 1 as International Coffee Day. Sheesh, it’s basically Coffee Week.
The ICO wanted a way to help coffee-growing nations improve their lot, so the resolution was the start of an awareness campaign to promote the drink to coffee lovers the world over. Millions of us begin the day with a cup of this magic elixir, enjoying the bonus of its delightful aroma, so here’s some good news that will perk you up! Well-known producers of coffee and top brand-name sellers typically offer coffee-related specials to their customers on one or both of these special days. To take advantage of these giveaways, visit your favorite coffee shop online or drop into the local establishment and ask if there is any special promotion on tap for either of those days.
We’ve managed to find what a few of the most popular brands are doing on National Coffee Day.
Coffee Perks
Dunkin’ Donuts: All day on National Coffee Day, DD Perks® members can get a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase. The free medium hot or iced coffee includes Dunkin’s Original Blend or Dunkin’s Limited Batch Series coffees — 100 percent Guatemalan Hot Coffee or Dunkin’ Midnight Hot Coffee.
Starbucks has decided to stir the pot a little by designating the day National Starbucks Day in addition to being National Coffee Day. The retailer is offering customers a free cup of up to 20 ounces, but you must bring your own reusable cup.
Circle K will celebrate National Coffee Day on September 29 by offering customers a free cup of hot or iced coffee. Customers can Text “FREE” to 31310 to receive a digital coupon for a free cup of coffee to redeem only on Wednesday, September 29, at participating Circle K stores.
7-Eleven has a convenient offer for its customers on this special day. America’s largest convenience retailer is offering 7Rewards® loyalty members one free hot coffee of any size with the purchase of a fresh-baked good at participating 7-Eleven stores nationwide. Grab a muffin, donut, or pastry and walk out with a steaming cup of coffee — free.
Atlas Coffee Club: If you want to go big on your caffeine fix, then Atlas is for you. From September 27 until October 2, customers can use the code “COFFEEDAY2021” on Atlas Coffee Club’s website and get a free bag of coffee (just cover shipping).
Dutch Bros. coffee, an Oregon producer, is giving 100 members one year of free Dutch Bros. coffee. Members who scan their Dutch pass on the Dutch Bros. app every time they buy their favorite drink can instantly win a free drink every day for a whole year if their purchase is selected. The promotion runs from September 29 through October 31, or until 100 winners are selected (limit 1 entry per day).
Here are a few other stores you should drop in on that participated in National Coffee Day in 2020 but haven’t officially announced plans for 2021:
Krispy Kreme: While the doughnut giant hasn’t announced its 2021 promotion, last year, it awarded customers with a free hot coffee and original glazed doughnut. If you are a Krispy Kreme doughnut fan, check to see what the bakeries are giving away this year.
McDonald’s: With the McDonald’s App, customers could redeem any size Premium Roast Coffee or Iced Coffee for just $0.99 once daily through December 31 at participating restaurants nationwide (including on National Coffee Day). Keep an eye out for their potential offerings in 2021.
Sheetz: Last time around, Sheetz offered a self-serve coffee of any size to all customers who ordered through the Sheetz App, no purchase necessary.
Duck Donuts: This Pennsylvania bakery invited customers to enjoy a “Buy One, Get One Free” hot coffee offer, any size of equal or lesser value. Customers had to mention the National Coffee Day promotion to receive the giveaway.
Remember, all offers will be at participating stores only, and while your favorite local or national coffee retailer might not be mentioned here, it’s always good to check to see if they have plans to celebrate this auspicious anniversary for one or both of the two special days. After all, they have the grounds to do it.
