Avelo Airlines Launched in April
Other smaller airports that Avelo flies to in the U.S. West from Hollywood Burbank include Fort Collins, Colorado; St. George, Utah; Provo, Utah; and Monterey, California. It also operates a flight from Santa Rosa, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada. See a full route map here.
The budget airline launched April 8 with service to smaller airports and notes that in its first 100 days, Avelo had more than 1,250 flights with just three cancellations. During that period, Avelo had an 85 percent on-time arrival performance. In July, the airline arrived on time 92 percent of the time and reported zero cancellations.
The airline notes that its home base of Hollywood Burbank Airport was named the “Best U.S. Airport” in 2019 by Fodor’s Travel. Flying into BUR allows for smaller crowds, faster baggage delivery from plane to carousel, shorter security lines, and shorter walking distances from terminal to parking lots than other, bigger Los Angeles area airports.
Also, a handy chart on the Avelo website notes the driving distance from Hollywood Burbank Airport to some key sights, including Universal Studios (5 miles), Hollywood Walk of Fame (11 miles), and Beverly Hills (15 miles).
This fall, Avelo will begin serving Connecticut from its first East Coast base at New Haven Airport (HVN).
