In the spring of 1977, I jumped in my Volkswagen Beetle and headed to the Century 21 theater in San Jose. It was one of the first times I drove my friends and I to do something.
I loved that car, and I understood the responsibility of owning and driving a car that my parents had spent more than $2,000 on a few years earlier. The movie we went to see that day: Star Wars.
Now Disney is giving everyone a chance to relish in their memories of Star Wars and the plethora of sequels that followed with a new attraction at Walt Disney World. But if you want to experience the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel, you’ll need two or three of those old VWs in your bank account.
Disney officials love to say the Galactic Starcruiser is something that goes far beyond anything they have ever created before. And now we know the prices do as well.
The Galactic Starcruiser will open in the spring of 2022 and offer guests a two-night experience where they will be immersed in the Star Wars story. Costs will vary, depending upon the number of people in the cabin, the level of cabin chosen, and the days of the week and time of year when booked.
Prices begin at $4,809 for a party of two; $5,299 for three guests in a cabin; or $5,999 for four guests in a cabin. A standard cabin features a queen bed, two bunk beds and a wall pull-down bed. A Galaxy Suite offers more room and can hold four guests, while a Grand Captain Suite will handle up to eight guests.
The price includes a two-night stay, food and beverages, excluding alcohol and specialty drinks, admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and all of the immersive and interactive entertainment that takes place throughout the visit.
Disney officials want guests to think of this as more of a two-night cruise rather than a hotel stay.
Disney officials promise each adventure will be different as each guest determines the path of their journey. Guests will interact with a variety of characters from the franchise, learn how to use a lightsaber, and take a side trip to the planet Batuu.
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is like nothing else you’ve ever experienced; part live immersive theater, part themed environment, part culinary extravaganza, part real-life role-playing game,” Disney says on its website. “While your story unfolds, you’ll have the power to choose your path. Will you follow the rule of the First Order, or join the Resistance in a secret plot? Strike a bargain with a gang of smugglers, or sit back, sip a cocktail and watch it all from a safe distance?”
Guests will be encouraged to purchase costumes ahead of their trip, or once aboard, to really immerse themselves in the adventure.
Disney has not announced an actual opening date for the attraction or when reservations will be open. With a spring 2022 opening, it could be ready for spring break.
Disney also has not released details about how many guests will be on board for each two-night adventure. But according to the Disney Tourist Blog, construction plans and permits indicate roughly 100 rooms total. That translates to only 400 people per journey, if each room has four guests. For those who can’t wait, Disney has released a commercial showing off part of the journey, as well as a second video with imagineers talking about creating the experience.
