With California opening up the state from most coronavirus restrictions this week, Disneyland is following suit by dropping many of its own regulations that have been in effect since it reopened in April.
Masks are no longer required for guests who are fully vaccinated, physical distancing rules have been eliminated, and temperature checks at entry have been dropped.
Capacity at both Disneyland and California Adventure are also being increased.
“As more people are vaccinated and the nation is turning the corner on this pandemic, we are encouraged that COVID-19 health and safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and state and local officials are being adjusted and eased,” Disney officials said in a statement.
The new rules match those implemented this week in Florida at Walt Disney World.
Guests who have not been vaccinated are expected to continue wearing a mask while in the park, but the condition will be on the honor system. All guests, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask while on the bus taking them from the parking lot to the front entrance.
Park officials said not everything will be back to pre-pandemic normal at Disneyland. Certain attractions, restaurants, and experiences may have limited capacity or be closed because of the ongoing pandemic.
“As always, our procedures may change as we continue to update our health and safety processes based on guidance from the state of California and local health officials,” Disney said.
One thing that won’t change for now is mandatory reservations to enter both Disneyland and California Adventure. Both parks continue to have reduced capacity, although officials have not said what that number is. The reservation system allows Disney to maintain capacity levels without having to turn away people who walk up and hope to enter.
While the mask mandate has been dropped for guests, park employees will continue to wear face coverings regardless of their vaccination status. As the parks continue to increase capacity, some Disney hotels are opening as well. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel are now open, and the Disneyland Hotel opens July 2.
