Attention all theme park enthusiasts, lovers of all things Disney, or anyone who just needs to dream of a fantastic vacation while hunkered down at home. The wonderful world of Disney wants you to know that despite the pandemic, they are living their founder’s mantra:
“First, think. Second, dream. Third, believe. And finally, dare,” said Walt Disney.
In this case, the dream is to continue planning for the future while the future remains uncertain. Currently, Disney World in Orlando is open at 35-percent capacity, while Disneyland in California remains shut down. The dare is to turn that dream into reality, and Disney announced it’s getting closer and closer to pulling it off.
This week, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks Experiences and Products, talked about the parks’ plans and even showed off images of the new expansion concepts for the first time.
New At Epcot
According to DisneyParks Blog, work is continuing on the historic, multi-year transformation of Epcot, including “Harmonious,” one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created. It’ll feature the hallmarks of a Disney experience, including music and images, reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world.
Remember the gourmet cooking rat, Remy? Disney is bringing his unique perspective to a new Epcot family-friendly attraction that will shrink you down to the scale of a rat. Now, remember the incredible chase scenes in the film? That is where you’re heading, friends. During each adventure, you’ll race across Gusteau’s kitchen floor aboard special trackless ride vehicles in a thrilling 3D chase.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Roller Coaster
Fans of the films know the storylines are up, down, this way, and that, so no surprise Disney is modeling a new roller coaster on the movies. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — the family-friendly “storytelling coaster” will feature a groundbreaking ride system with vehicles rotating 360 degrees and can even do a reverse launch!
The adventure will start in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures — until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
In a galaxy far, far away, there is much anticipation for the opening of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, where guests will live aboard a starship for a 2-day, 2-night experience. Unlike any typical cruise, though, you can become the heroes of your own Star Wars story in a new type of immersive experience that only Disney could create.
Guests will cruise the galaxy in style aboard the Halcyon, known for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. Onboard, you’ll stay in well-appointed cabins, experience dining, make a planet-side excursion to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, and much more.
The Reimagining Of Splash Mountain
The long-awaited changes to Splash Mountain have been expedited.
“We believe that a truly inclusive environment is critical to fostering ideas from all people to help us grow, innovate, and create the best stories possible,” said D’Amaro.
The new theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, The Princess and the Frog. Join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure — featuring some of the powerful music from the film — as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.
