Jonathan Look Jr. is from Conroe, TX, and Sarah Wilson is from London, England. After meeting on the open road, they started the travel blog LifePart2. Sarah has been kind enough to answer a few of our questions below.
Sarah: It seemed almost inevitable that we, Jonathan and Sarah, would one day meet: two independent retired travellers from different corners of the globe, we shared a bond that many travellers experience, a mutual love of adventure and a belief that the planet is a better place when people leave their comfort zones and discover new lands and cultures.
So, when our paths finally crossed in Chaing Mai, Thailand we quickly struck up our relationship and began exploring the world together. Our retirement travel blog isn't about budget travel, but there is certainly a bit of that. It isn't about luxury travel, but there is an element of that too. We may occasionally strap on a backpack and go to some pretty remote places, but we are not "backpackers".
LifePart2 isn't all about minimalism, but we use minimalism as a tool ("the luxury of little") to enable us to live this lifestyle. This may be a retirement travel blog, but it isn't specifically about retirement either. But we do hope to motivate our fellow baby boomers to travel more and have some retirement adventures of your own. We are a retirement lifestyle blog about possibilities, experiencing the full spectrum of life and living in ways that are interesting and appealing.
Sarah: Jonathan took early retirement and has been travelling extensively around the world and living overseas for the past eight years. I left England in 2002 to travel the world for a year but never went back.
Sarah: We love all kinds of travel. One day may find us staying with indigenous families, eating local food and sleeping on straw. The next may find us sipping fine wine in an ultra-luxury hotel while admiring the lights of a world-class city.
Sarah: Difficult to answer. We love all our travel adventures. We have just come back from a two week trip on a canal barge on the Canal du Midi in France, that was a lot of fun!
Sarah: For Jonathan, it's Antarctica. For me, the Galapagos Islands.
Sarah: For Jonathan, his camera. For me, a good moisturizer.
Sarah: Don't worry about the what ifs, just go.
Sarah: Kayak.com for flights and car rental. Booking.com for hotels.
Sarah: Sign up to airline newsletters. It's a great way to hear about special offers first.
Sarah: Stop worrying about what could go wrong, focus on what goes right.
Sarah: Not being able to understand the language.
Sarah: Vietnam. Fresh spring rolls and pho, a delicious soup.
Sarah: Everywhere. Travelling solo is a great way to meet like-minded people.
Sarah: Only eating in tourist restaurants; not trying local food, not venturing off the beaten path. Some of the best experiences in travel are when you step out of your comfort zone even if it's just for a little while.
